Great, better than tripwire, more like the first two Reacher books. There is still less action though. The story was very compelling and keep me wondering and hanging on to see how it would work out, but it ended up being more of a crime fiction novel than anything else. There is nothing wrong with that I love crime fiction, I wasn't expecting it though and I don't read the Reacher books for crime fiction, but it was good. Lee Child does a great job of making you really curious to figure out wha...more

This was published in 2000, and there is a scene where Jack Reacher and his lady friend eat at the restaurant at the top of the WTC. Eerie now, and sad. The bad guy in this one is a serial killer and Reacher ends up working (not volunatrily) with the FBI's behavioral sciences unit to solve the crxime. According to Reacher, criminal profiling is useless and not a science at all; he is deeply skeptical of the entire enterprise, favoring legwork and common sense instead. It's an unsurprising o...more

Another good Jack Reacher story. I found myself not want to fight the story and try to figure it out, just flow along with it and see where it took me.

And it took me through some rapids and over a waterfall without me suspecting it till it was too late.

A series of prior service Army women are being targeted. All the have in common is they've left the service due to sexual harassment. Reacher narrows the list of almost 90 women down to eleven that will be killed by someone who leaves n...more

I'm giving this book two stars because it has a few interesting plot points, but it is the fourth Jack Reacher book I have read and they are not getting better. Each book finds a way to contain many of the same elements (secret evil conspiracy, prominent character that turns out to be a double-crosser, the phrase: "Time to time", beautiful women that can't help but fall for Jack Reacher, etc.). Clearly Lee Child has a formula that works and most people fall into the category of "...more

This is a new author/series for me and I liked it. I figured out "whodunnit" about a third of the way through but, surprisingly, it didn't bother me. I knew who, and why, simply because it was the most logical person and despite red herrings and mcguffins thrown it, I was right. Normally, figuring out the "who" in a mystery is irksome but since it was the most logical person, I liked that the author kept with a sensible story-line.

I'll be looking for the rest. Luckily...more

I'll try to give my opinion without giving away the ending to the book.

Pro: This book is fast-moving, and the murder case is intriguing.

Con: Very easy to figure out the killer. I am awful at guessing correctly when reading mystery novels, but this one was just not masked well.

Pro: A strong, professional female character (FBI agent).

Con: The strong, professional female character is, of course, alarmingly attractive, and turns out to be slutty.

Con: The woman who is ...more

The only reason that this didn't get FIVE stars is because I think it's ridiculous to have a killer that is not that major of a player in the book, and someone that you wouldn't think of.

My co-worker just handed me this book and said she read it yesterday (yes, yesterday) and she loved it. So, when I finish the current book, I'm jumping right into this one.

I can hardly put it down!!! Once again, Jack Reacher is such a stud! The thing I really like about his books is that one minute you think you have it figured out, then the next page you realize you were way off base. Then you think you know 'who done it' and you turn the page and wrong again!
This book talked a lot about the relationship between the FBI and the military, and that was interesting to learn about. Another thing I like about Lee Child's books...I learn a lot. Very interestin...more

(#4 of the Jack Reacher series) This was pretty good. Reacher is hauled into FBI headquarters accussed of killing women who were previously in the service and previously had filed sexual harrassment greivances.
He isn't the killer and they know that but they strong arm him in helping them in their case. HE is teamed up with Harper. A beautiful blond agent. If it wasn't for Jodie, he would probably fool around. This book had some brilliant ideas. I was in awe as to how Childs thought this u...more

Lee Child writes wonderfully. This book was well-written, moved quickly and told a great story. Very intriguing with a wonderful twist.

I really have nothing bad to say about this book other than that I don't think I'm a fan of the main character, Jack Reacher. It's a mix between not liking him and being rather indifferent towards him. I want to read more books by Lee Child, but I'm not sure if I'll be reading any more from the Jack

Jack Reacher. What more can you say about him. Men want to be him and women...well you know what women want. Child knows how to crank up the tension in a scene while creating a truly lickable...I mean Likeable kind of character. He may not be perfect. You may not agree with everything that he does. But he has created a life for himself that the rest of us can really only dream of.

This is Child's fourth Jack Reacher novel and it's another really good one. Reacher is sucked into an FBI investigation into who is killing women who left the military after sexual harassment issues. The bodies are found in the bathtubs of their home which are also filled with Army green paint. And no one can figure out how they are being killed. It's a wild story and a good one.

This has many of the good features of Lee Child's other Reacher novels, but a glaring flaw that I found distracting throughout. Without emitting a spoiler, here's the trouble: Reacher spends more or less the whole novel being threatened and pushed around by some FBI assholes, and never references the powerful FBI friends he made in the second book. Why not?

I was really looking forward to reading this one, having had my appetite whetted by Tripwire. I had to find out what happened with Reacher's relationship with his dream girl! The book didn't disappoint, though the relationship did (as expected; trust me, this isn't a spoiler.) This one managed to have a very strange twist at the ending.

Good writing and quite suspenseful. Although I figured out who, how, and why fairly soon into the book, Mr. Child had me second guessing my conclusions more than once. Jack Reacher may be a little too hard-boiled for my taste, but I will at least read another book in the series before I decide whether to continue or not.
