In Tripwire, the third book in Lee Child's Jack Reacher series, Reacher is in Key West digging swimming pools - with a shovel. The job is suiting him just fine until a New York City private detective comes looking for Reacher on behalf of a woman named Mrs. Jacob. The fact that he's never heard of Mrs. Jacob is bothersome enough, but when the private investigator ends up dead, Reacher has to find out why.
When Reacher travels to New York City he discovers that Mrs. Jacob is actually Jody Garb...more

So far this is not nearly as good as the previous two books, way too much romance in a series that has had little romance up to this point. I started to read this series because I was tired of those books that couldn't make up their mind whether they wanted to be action books or romance books. I am only a little over half way through so maybe it will get better.
The book did get better, the story came together nicely and was quite compelling, the book still is my least favorite of the series ...more

Last seen in deepest Montana in Die Trying, we find Reacher way down in the Florida Keys at the start of Tripwire. When the PI who comes looking for him turns up dead, Reacher follows his tracks back to New York City in search of answers, but when he meets a face from his past it only raises more questions.

Here's my review system--I score on four categories and average them together for the number of stars. The four categories are: character development (are the characters deep and complex, plot (is it interesting), voice (is the narration smooth and engaging) and cliche level (is it predictable.)
Character development: 5 stars-- Reacher is so hauntingly good
Plot: 4 stars-- interesting with nice twists
Voice: 5 stars-- The narration was smooth
Cliche level: 4 stars-- The bad guys were really...more

A great villain makes a good book and in Trip Wire Lee Child has one of the nastiest villains you'll want to come across, Hook" Hobie. My gripe with Child is that he includes so much detail about routine events like getting dressed. Too much for my taste. This was a pre 9-11 book and I think he has toned down the details in his newer books. It has an interesting plot and is a page-turner. There are some really graphic discriptions of the helicopter crash and resulting deaths that may no...more

Lee Child is my guilty pleasure and makes perfect holiday reading. This is the third in the series and the read on the third holiday of this year. I enjoyed it that much that I am going to extend the reading to public holidays when I am not going away from home.
When you write down a reacher novel, you realise that they are utter trash - but written in a compelling way that they are exciting page turners that have obvioulsy been very well researched.

TRIPWIRE (Thriller-US-Cont) - G
Child, Lee - 3rd in series
JoveBooks, 2000- Paperback
***Ex-military policeman, Jack Reacher has worked hard to at a low profile.
He is surprised, and wary, when a private investigator comes to Key West looking for him. When the investigator is murdered, he tracks down the client. The trail leads him to his past, a romance with a formerly unrequited love, a case to clear the name of a Vietnam veteran, and facing off against a brutal villain, with a hook hand...more

It is a quick and entertaining read. Jack Reacher novels are pretty predictable but if you like James Bond with a military twist then you will like these books. Jack Reacher IS a bad ass. He could take down Bond any day even without his own "Q".

The first 123 pages sucked. Then pages 124 to 179 sucked a little less. Then it turned around. It seemed like someone else took over and finished the book the correct way. There were a couple of graphic scenes thoughout the book but thats what I like to read. Jack Reacher is a ex military cop. He wittnesses a murder. He is then part of the situation and finds himself in danger. There is a small love story and lots of interesting killings in this book. I feel the author goes into a little to much...more

I actually got this book at the library for Brock since my mother-in-law recommended it for him. But he never ended up reading it and I had nothing to read so I ended up reading it. Pretty good read overall.

Best of the first three Child books. When I pick one up I am useless until I finish it. There's just something about them that make me want to keep reading.

Now I need to read 'Running Blind'. I think this series is great. The only problem is, with any bodies books, they start to read the same. The only difference is the story, and that's good enough for me.

Ooo, this was an awfully good Reacher story. Child really gives you your money's worth, I always think, with the depth of a topic that he gets into. Here there's a very good discussion of POWs and MIAs, from not just Vietnam, but all wars. The villain is particularly nasty, some great and strong characters, and we meet Reacher's love. (I read the later one before this one where he spends another entire book with her!) All the Reacher books have such great characters. Child really is one he...more

Jack Reacher is minding his own business living his simple life in Key West when a private detective comes looking for him. Before he could even find out why, the private detective was murdered. Reacher opened a major bucket of worms when he got to looking into why. Lee Child writes one of the tightest mysteries in print today. This is his third and possibly his best. His characters are really interesting, his plots are credible, fast and crisp. I sure hope he's hard at work on number 4.

As mystery/thriller writers go, Lee Child is hands down my fave. Tripwire is one of his better novels featuring the ex-MP bad ass good guy Jack Reacher. Faced with a mystery as to why he is being hunted down by a PI, Reacher finds himself (and this novel's love interest) in a cat and mouse game with one seriously nasty dude. Though this is number three of the Jack Reacher novels, there is no need to read the series in chronological order.
A fast-paced read for a rainy day.

A very masculine book but I have thoroughly enjoyed it. Jack Reacher is brains and brawns and quite aptly described as he is someone men would love to be and women would love to have him!
It took me a while to get into the book and the character of Jack Reacher as the narrative is written, in a very male perspective. The plot is quite good as it made me want to find out the mystery that awaits at the end.
I am looking forward to reading another Jack Reacher adventure.

This is the third in the Jack Reacher series. Another good story.
Jack meets up with his old CO's daughter, now grown to a beautiful woman, who has held him in her heart since she was very young.
The two of them solve the mystery of a Vietnam War MIA and end the reign of terror created by the mysterious scarred one armed man (have we heard this before?).
If you like murder mysteries that aren't extremely graphic, you'd like this one.

I've now read the entire Reacher series completely out of order, this being last. Must say I was a little disappointed with Tripwire. A tad too talky and introspective, though there was certainly a good helping of blood splattered throughout. If you're going to try a Reacher book, start with One Shot or The Enemy.
If Christopher Nolan is looking to shoot a good series after he's done with Batman...

recommends it for:
People who don't mind action and violence in a book
It was very exciting. As a military person I could relate to the main character and the twists and turns in the book. This was the first book of this author that I read. I am now hooked and checked out most of the series.
There is a lot of gore and action. Not for the faint of heart.
Jack Reacher is the miltary version of a James Bond type who makes incredible escapes from very bad situations.
