This is Mette's first published book. I love her writing style, so I enjoyed it. I'm not always fond of books that talk about kids going through really tough times like this girl (mom's a drug addict and she's in foster care), but Mette does a good job of keeping the main character from being too angry. She is angry, but she is also intelligent enough to work through it and finally accept some people into her life who can give her what she needs. I still like the fairy tales better, but this...more

I loved the author's other books and just looked this first one up. It is a short story about a girl in foster care learning to trust people again. It was a fine story, with an ending that seemed a bit abrupt. I only gave it 3 stars because I would have enjoyed reading more about the characters. I know it is just a short story, but it left me hanging a bit too much.

Ryan checked this book out, but since I didn't have any books in the house to read I got to it first. It is set in Heber, UT and details the experience of a teenage girl in her first foster home. I just never really understood how she could love running so much, to me, running is pain. Pain in my side, my lungs, my legs. I think I need to get in shape...
