So, Jack Reacher is quickly replacing Ranger (of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum books) as my favorite fictional boyfriend. There might not be as many laughs with him, but dang - he is just smokin!
This was my third Lee Child book and I am officially hooked. The plots are involved and the action is intense, Even if one or the other seems highly implausible at times - I just don't care.

In a small, dusty town in Indiana, on a hot afternoon, five people are gunned down by a sniper. Plenty of evidence is left behind, and it all points to one man: James Barr. When Barr is arrested, he asks for Jack Reacher. Reacher can't understand why Barr wants his help. While in the military, Reacher investigated Barr for virtually the same scenario. But as Reacher begins to look into the case, the evidence seems too well-placed. The more Reacher investigates, the more the case falls apart. Whe...more

Lee Child's Jack Reacher thrillers always have remarkably inventive setups, and One Shot is true to form. A sniper, Barr, kills five people with six shots and leaves a clear trail of evidence; arrested, he asks for Reacher. When Reacher was a military policeman, politics stopped him pursuing Barr--he cannot understand why Barr would ask for him and Barr has been beaten in jail until he cannot remember himself. Yet, for Reacher, the loner who looks at things differently from civilians, the story ...more

One of the better Jack Reacher novels, I think. I thoroughly enjoyed this one :)

My first exposure to Jack Reacher and quite a pleasurable one, One Shot is pacey, exciting and smart, without requiring oodles of brainpower and concentration. Having read most of the previous Reacher novels I would say this is one of the better ones, probably in the top three of my personal selection. The Jack Reacher character is already fully formed by this point and Lee Child clearly has confidence with the material.

Michael Connelly fans.
This was a great book. Jack Reacher is just one awesome, carefree, former military, detective. A take charge, no shit, bring-it-on, good guy. Kind of a Jack Taylor (Ken Bruin's)without the sarcasm and alcohol, or maybe a Harry Bosch (Michael Connelly. Which reminds me I better do another shot of both Bruen and Connelly.
Lee Childs is now added to my list of favorites. Looking forward to another one, real soon.

Nothing that makes you bite your nails or keep you on the dge of the seat (or the bed; depends where you read it).
I bought in a sale and didn't pay much for it, and for that I am thankful. Perhaps if I was hooked on to the series (I believe there is), then perhaps I would have appreciated the lead character and such.
As a single read, didn't quite feel the excitement that it was supposedly inherent.

The gunman worked from a parking structure just thirty yards away - point blank range for a trained military sniper like James Barr. His victims were in the wrong place at the wrong time. But why does Barr want Reacher by his side? There are good reasons why Reacher is the last person Barr would want to see. But when Reacher hears Barr's own words, he understands. And a slam-dunk case explodes.

Picked this book up from someone at work who was "giving it to a good home". Eh, it was an easy way to waste away a day, but nothing super exciting or whatever. It's about this sniper who supposedly kills 5 people. The sniper won't talk about it except to ask for one thing - contact an MP (military police) who was in the service with him. The MP (Jack Reacher) tries to figure the whole mess out.

Jack Reacher. What more can you say about him. Men want to be him and women...well you know what women want. Child knows how to crank up the tension in a scene while creating a truly lickable...I mean Likeable kind of character. He may not be perfect. You may not agree with everything that he does. But he has created a life for himself that the rest of us can really only dream of.

This is one of my favorite Reacher novels. The reader gets an interesting look at Reacher and his past. I was particularly intrigued with the shooting set up. Child gives us enough information to solve it ourselves. I got the how but not the who. Great fun being right and discovering which clues I missed. This is particularly good as an audio book. Dick Hill is a terrific reader.

This was a tightly written book and, as thrillers go, one of the better ones. All the backstory was pertinent to the action, there wasn't a lot of irrelevant detail. The only part I had trouble with was when the hero beat the answer out of someone - why are thriller writers always so ready to resort to torture as a means of obtaining information?

I've read half a dozen of the Jack Reacher books, and while this one was okay, it wasn't my favorite. I still love the character, and the story was tight...I have no real reason for not ranking it higher than a three...other than it just didn't grab me the way the others did. Maybe it was my mood when I read it?

I forgot how good Lee Child is.He isn’t a “great” author but he is defiantly one of the most satisfying. To make an analogy, it is like mom making your favorite dish. It is not like a meal at Les Hals but a great meal none the less. The writing is funny, and exciting with great character development and plot.

Please. The Jack Reacher character has "jumped the shark" for me. The deadpan remarks, the lonely middle-aged career women. Ten books is pretty damn good for the same story! Be happy! Do something else. It's over, man. These scenarios, and the odds that one person would keep walking into them are ridiculous.

Wow! Non-stop action and suspense, with just enough forensics to keep it interesting. I loved the fact that there were no loose ends, yet the plot never felt forced. The characters all seemed real - even the villains had compelling backstories, and Reacher is . . . well, he's cooool. A very satisfying read.

This book was really fun to read, and you would have never guessed the ending to it. It is very CSI based, and alot of forensic things involved. The book is a part of a series by Lee Child, and it is based on a character named jack reacher. It is a very interesting story, and I reccomend reading it.

Heartland of Indiana. A lone gunman mows down 5 office workers with a sniper's expertise. They find the guy immediately with evidence to make a slam dunk case. And then he asks for Jack Reacher. This is yet another iron clad tale told superbly. I love this guy and his books.

I really enjoyed this book - it's the first Jack Reacher novel I've read and, even though I'm a fast reader, this book took me a while to get through. Not because the plot was slow or boring...it made me want to slow down and read it carefully so I wouldn't miss any details.
