51vqxplffcl Hilarious. I heard this interview yesterday (on the way home?) and was going to tell you about it. I want an office that you can only get to by rope bridge!!!

13839 How funny that this came up during today's walk. I hadn't seen that this was on your reading list as of yesterday. Quelle coincidence.

It's a fascinating read; you will appreciate.

33313 For a bit in the mid-90s, I considered changing careers and going to culinary school. After reading this book, I am really glad I didn't. Man, oh man, 'chef' is a whole lot more complicated and high pressure of a job than I ever imagined.

I chose the book because I really enjoy him (and his total dick-ness). But this book is not his TV persona in print. This book is all about the scene he was part of before then: how he got into food in the first place (spite, desire to gross brother out), how he earned his place in the culinary subculture of NY. It was a thoroughly enjoyable read - and one that made me admire and appreciate (and realize I never would have been able to hack) what goes on behind that swinging door and before and after restaurant business hours. Interesting real characters. Great stories, well told.

I recommend it without reservations! [insert rimshot here] :)

55876 Toby Young gave a super snarky interview on NPR. That, plus the fabulous title and jacket art got me to buy this one. Unfortunately, the vapid, self-absorbed social wannabe-persona isn't ironic or tongue-in-cheek. He really is an ass, which makes it a fairly annoying read.

11762 Yay! I do believe I gave you this book (or I gave it to my mother to give to you). In any case, I picked it out for you. I am so glad you liked it as much as I did.
