Yes, this is actually a poem about death, but it's not what you think. My friends and I were messing around and being loud outside when an old lady came out and explained that there was (another) old woman dying inside, that she weighed just ninety pounds and would be gone soon and we could be loud as long as we want to when she's gone. I was a little indignant but patient because it seemed like she was trying to convince herself that it was really that close to the end. I thought about what it would be like when I was one my deathbed. I would want to hear kids laughing outside when I died! So I wrote this ...
P.S. I have never met the old woman who was on her deathbed, and I don't know what happened to her

You may notice there is a lot of mention of mothers and family in general. This is because I wrote the poem during a week where my mom had some pains in her stomach (from a fibroid, later surgically removed) and my brothers and sister and I were basically on our own to do whatever we wanted. Yeah, that was pretty much horrible but I like to think I gained something from it.
