Devil's Advocate: The Untold Story

This is an entertaining and fairly well written book, however most of it is held up by the virtue of the fact that Karan led quite an entertaining and well-connected life.
This book is mostly about his life and a few scattered thoughts about events we recognize him for, however it left me wanting more. Having played not an insignificant role in Indian and subcontinental politics, I would have expected more of his personal opinions on display rather than mostly just a summary of facts, and a rather surface level discussion of them.
Had the book been more thorough and dealt with questions like justifying the contradiction of being great personal friends with Advani while being a harsh critic of the way BJP treats the minorities, or his thoughts on the politics of Pakistan during the Bhutto eras, it would have been a much better read. The only time he gets remotely political is when he talks about Aung San Suu Kyi and the Rohingya issue.
However the stories alone make for a good read, it's insane just how many friends he's had who have all been relevant to global politics. His take on a new style of journalism in India is also refreshing to read about.
