Fell a bit short of what I had it built up to be.
The world building specially with in the Dr. Krishna world was creative and well-written and well thought through, I also liked the premise of how the stories worked and interacted. The interactions and the consequences were satisfying at many places, and arc endings were not rushed or unjustified. The book took explicit effort to give the world a richer texture, exploring the backstories and the institutions at play. Sci-fi world building is tough to do well, it's either really good or really bad, this book managed to be on the right side of it.
This felt similar to what I felt about Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow where parts of the book were 5-stars and amazing whereas some other parts were not so fun at all.
While the book is funny sometimes in a haha way and sometimes in a hmm way, often the comedic aspects felt forced in for not much pay off. A lot of the jokes written out in dialogues felt a better fit for a visual setting like a sketch or a movie and didn't translate well when reading it, they just became regular sentences which you just have to get by as opposed to the funny bits through the narrator's voice or just through the general world that was built which were funny when you read it as well.
The world was also built perfectly to be able to analyse all these deeper questions that it wanted to talk about. We had enough avenues for these thoughts to roll out through the story which felt natural. Perhaps these thoughts could have been allowed to take up more space, would have made for a better read. Will need to sit through the philosophical and metaphysical thoughts to see if anything comes back to me.
