Very readable introductory text to the period. The first time I’ve heard of the liberal Mazzini. The format of first covering the early years by region and then starting the general unification story worked better than I initially expected. Adding context to the figures Cavour and Garibaldi were personal highlights, as were the overviews on literature and city planning.
