Escape is listed as Otherworld Stories #1.2.
The narrator of this short story is Eve. It was so nice getting to see early Eve and Savannah again. This story was about them being kidnapped. Savannah was 12.
The story is about Eve trying to escape. This story takes place before Stolen and it sets up that book. However just reading Escape on its own ... well the story just ends. If I had read this story years ago before reading Stolen then it would have made me anxious to read that book. But on its own it does not have an ending.

This is the background to the events in Stolen and the story on how Eve... well... dies. In spite of the obvious sad theme, the story was entertaining because: hey it's Eve. Strangely enough - despite knowing how it would end - I was still rooting for her and hoping that somehow she would still manage to escape the compound.
More so than the ending, the Eve and Savannah scene made me sad. I loved how their relationship was portrayed and I regret not being able to expect any more of those scenes in the series.

This is a great story for fans of the Otherworld series.
Escape is another of those short stories to fill in the blanks we have about events in the main series. In Stolen we find out details about what happened to Eve in the compound, yet we are not given the specifics. Escape works to tell us what happened there.

A free short story, 1.75 in the Women of the Otherworld urban fantasy series, revolving around three major hidden groups of supernaturals: werewolves, witches, and sorcerers. The focus is on Eve Levine and her daughter, Savannah.
My Take
I've always wondered about Eve's escape from that prison in Stolen , 2. Now I know.
Damn.
Armstrong uses a first person protagonist point-of-view from Eve's perspective, so we know what she's thinking, doing, and saying.
Damn.
I could wish that Armstrong had managed to infuse the story with more tension and drama, a sense of Eve's being frantic about their situation. Instead we get what we expect, lots of thoughts with small actions.
Damn.

Eve Levine is a black witch and an Aspicio half-demon. Savannah Levine is her twelve-year-old daughter.
Ruth Winterbourne is the leader of a coven and has a daughter, Paige.
The Prison
Sondra Bauer of the perfect suit, perfect hair, and perfectly phony smile is one of those in charge. There's a guard out for his own bit of fun.
The Cover and Title
The cover is a closeup of Eve's eye and cheek in a soft gray and cream. The color comes from the blood that starts as a scroll behind the author's name, in white, at the very top. The bloodstream pools in Eve's lower lid and then streams down to form a pentacle in the "a" of the title, which is a distressed white with a black shadow. Below that, in very tiny print, is a credit to the artist.
The title is where Eve's focus is, on "Escape".

I’ve previously read books 1 to 9 of this series many years ago, loved them all. It’s only recently that I’ve watched the TV series called Bitten which is based on the books which has made me want to come back and finish reading the series as well as all the short novels that have been written in addition to the full length novels.
So this short story was an interesting read, it was insightful seeing Eve’s mother instinct to protect Savannah come into play. I would have liked this to be a bit longer as it was all over far to quickly and I wasn’t overly keen on the ending, which felt unfinished.

This was a good and somewhat emotional story to read with one of the few scenes with Savannah and her mother Eve before she died.
I wish I remembered more about Stolen, since the ending is left very vague and I'm probably supposed to know what happens next, but I read it a loooong time ago.

I like the idea of Kelley Armstrong to add more short stories to the fantasy series of Women of the Otherworld. I have read only this and the first novel of the series, so I need to read more stories to understand the world created by the author, but I think it is a very nice project. This short story is interesting but I need more details reading the other novels. I suggest to read it after the main series. It is nice that these stories are free on her website!

This feels more like a teaser for things to come, than anything else. Aside from the short stories, I've only read book one so far, so when the stories are narrated by anyone not in that book (or even in the TV series), I'm not quite sure what to make of it. I've decided to take these as well written teasers for the coming books. :D

More on Eve and her daughter and events leading up to book 2 Stolen......this one left me with a cliffhanger and I want to know what happened! Eve's stories always leave me hanging!

Three reasons to read Escape:
1) Eve and Savannah's relationship before Eve dies is one of my favourite in the series.
2) Eve is at her best in this story: bold, protective, and ready to kill. I couldn't help but root for her even though I knew how it would end. She deserved to win.
3) Stolen tells us that Eve died but didn't go into the specifics. This story sated my curiosity, which was nice.
One drawback to Escape:
1) The same can be said for a lot of the other short stories in this universe, but it's most obvious with this one: It can't be read on its own. You need to have read at least Stolen for it to make sense.

This was the last one that I needed to read before I could pick up Stolen. I have seen Eve in another short story and thought she was interesting but seeing her interact as a mother made me really like her. I hope that we will see her again, who knows...

The events of Eve getting captured before Stolen, and her attempted escape. It's kind of a sad story. Not because of how it ends, but because it's so clear how much she loves Savannah. Knowing how things are going to go gives the whole thing an even sadder feel.

This story serves as a short prequel to Stolen, showing Eve attempting to escape the compound with Savannah. I love Eve, and the ending of this would be much more upsetting if it wasn't, in a way, only the beginning for Eve.

Eve and Savannah's POV shortly after they have been kidnapped. Again, fairly short (can't complain for a free short story though) but loved having Eve's perspective, she's quite a badass.

Eve Levine and her daughter Savannah have been captured and put into cells at the whim of a rich madman who wants to experiment on supernaturals. Eve has no intention of remaining there and comes up with an escape plan.
Since I read Haunted, I really wanted to know what happened to Eve when she was captured but this short story was a bit disappointing. It was way too short to do justice to the subject.We need more than a few pages to show the capture, planning and escape story that I had hoped for. When we join the story, they are already prisoners and Eve knows she needs to get them out of there before someone hurts Savannah.
Anyone who hasn't read Stolen, look away NOW. OK you had your warning! In Stolen, we hear about how Eve was killed trying to escape. I never did understand that. If they went to so much trouble to capture her, surely they would have taken her alive? And the sudden end to the book was not great.
A bit let down by this one.

Escape was... was...
I don't know how to describe it, but after I read Haunted, I wanted to read another story focusing on Eve. I didn't realize I'd love her as much as I did; she was so snarky, so strong, and so selfless, especially when it comes to protecting her daughter, Savannah.
Luckily, I found Escape, and as soon as I did, I had to read it.... And as you'd expect, I LOVED IT! It was suspenseful and action-packed; it was filled with Eve's snarky attitude; and... and gosh, it was another amazing story by Kelley Armstrong!
That ending, though... it leaves you hanging on a cliff... even though I know what happens next for Eve, and for Savannah, it left me desperate for more.
Now... I am off to discover more stories...

I've been wanting to read this one for a while. Eve is one of my favorite characters in the Otherworld series and I've been curious about what happened to her in the compound ever since reading Stolen. This short story wasn't really what I was hoping for but it was still enjoyable and it was nice to read about Eve again.

I love Eve as a character, and all we had to go on before now was Savannah's rendition of their escape attempt. It was brilliant to see how Eve cared for Savannah, and how she kicked herself for getting them into that situation. Finally knowing the intricacies of how Eve met her end, at least as a human, was a wonderful addition to the Otherworld collection.

Looking to find out how Eve and Savannah made their escape? This story shows the sad story of what happened "off screen" from Elena. Eve is her typical cocky and determined self, trying to protect her daughter but also throwing herself into danger. As we know how this ends, it was also a little bittersweet. At least we know this isn't the end of Eve Levine.

Here we have Savannah'so escape and Eve's death from Eve's point of view. It's an event referred to often enough in the series that this extra feels rather unnecessary. Granted it'seems usually Savannah doing the reminicing, but we see enough of Eve in her afterlife that it doesn't feel like an issue.

Eve and her daughter Savannah have been kidnapped. This short gives a little background about the two and mentions a few other names that you will come to know in the series. The story is a hear tin your throat cliffhanger. I NEED to read the full length story to find out what happens.

Not a bad little story, but very short. It was interesting to see Eve's attempt at escaping the compound and her relationship with Savannah. Glad I found this on Kelley Armstrong's website. Not enough of a story to be a novella.
