When Franklin's sister, Harriet, causes his pet to get loose, Franklin is so angry he is reluctant to forgive her.
I found the presentation and the lesson learned to both be pretty pedestrian, but my daughter enjoyed it when she was four.
FOR REFERENCE:
Based on the TV episode Franklin Forgives (Season 6, Episode 1), written by Karen Moonah. Based on the Franklin books by Paulette Bourgeois and Brenda Clark.

June 7, 2025Franklin Forgives is a gentle and emotionally resonant picture book that teaches young readers the importance—and difficulty—of forgiveness. Part of the beloved Franklin the Turtle series, this story maintains the charm, warmth, and relatability that fans of Franklin have come to expect.
In this story, Franklin is hurt and upset when his best friend Bear accidentally breaks one of his prized possessions. Though Bear apologises, Franklin struggles with his feelings and doesn’t forgive him right away. Over time, he begins to understand the value of empathy, letting go of anger, and repairing relationships.
Sharon Jennings’s storytelling is honest and age-appropriate. She doesn’t rush the emotional process, which allows children to see that it’s okay to feel hurt and that forgiveness is a thoughtful choice, not just a quick fix. This realistic emotional arc is one of the book’s strengths, as it models emotional maturity while respecting a child’s perspective.
Brenda Clark’s familiar and expressive illustrations bring the forest world of Franklin to life with warmth and vivid detail. Franklin’s emotions are depicted, helping young readers connect to the characters’ experiences even if they can’t yet articulate them.
Ideal For: Children aged 4–8, especially those learning about emotional regulation, conflict resolution, and friendship. It's also a useful tool for parents, teachers, and counselors to spark conversations about how to handle hurt feelings.
Verdict:
Franklin Forgives is a heartfelt and relatable story about navigating difficult emotions and learning to forgive. With its thoughtful message and comforting illustrations, it’s another meaningful addition to the Franklin series—and a gentle guide for kids facing the ups and downs of real friendship.
