The Takeover #4

Bought: His Temporary Fiancée

Rate this book
“Will you be my fake fiancée?”

What kind of charade had she agreed to? Margaret Cole’s new boss, William Tanner, had presented a simple offer: pose as his bride-to-be. The tycoon could collect his inheritance; she could protect her family. But what if Margaret acknowledged the feelings she had for her pretend groom? William would use whatever means necessary—including blackmail—to please his family.

Margaret was exactly what he needed to complete his plan—single, sexy…and at his mercy. He just had to keep things completely professional. Which was proving to be anything but simple.

The Takeover For better, for worse. For business, for pleasure. These tycoons have vowed to have it all

I've been reading these books out of order and the closer I get to #1, the more I'm wishing I would have been able to read them in sequence. You don't lose much so they don't have to be read in order, but I dislike missing the few minor things here or there that allude to something or someone from the past. It doesn't effect the outcome of the book however. Again, this one was just ok. Nothing mind blowing and a tiny bit flat.

This is the story of the CFO of Cameron Enterprises, Will Tanner and his attempt to trick his father into believing he's engaged in order to gain the family farmland back in New Zealand. He blackmails Margaret Cole to pretend to be his fiancée by accusing her brother Jason, of stealing from the company. Not a great start to a relationship but Margaret takes it all pretty well. I liked that when they are together it's easy and sweet and you just get the sense that this one is meant to be. From the moment they first meet they both feel something and Will goes out of his way to find Margaret again after a brief kiss 6 weeks earlier. It's sweet. It's also a bit frustrating to continually read about how much Margaret wants Will but she knows it's all pretend and she'd do well to remember that. Then seconds later she's decided to take what she can get and be happy. Great attitude for a messed up situation but I think I read that 3 or more times in 180 pages and that argument gets old. I think the main problem with this story is that the obstacle in their relationship really isn't much of an obstacle. I did enjoy the couple just not their journey.

There's also a short flashback of Rafe and Sarah (The Hero and Heroine of Book #6 by Catherine Mann) which you get in snippets in book #6 but it's cute to read anyway.

The characters are not appealing, and the plot is so cliched. I expected much better from this author.

Bought:His Temporary Fiancee is another installment in the Takeover series and pretty okay. Wealthy hero blackmails heroine to pose as his fiancee. Heroine agrees since it's her brother on the line, there is a Cinderella transformation of course, the charade turns real. And well the brother turns out to be innocent. Nothing new and not badly done either.

I liked the dynamic between the two protagonists - it wasn't forced or didn't seem contrived like it does in some other books. The plot was a bit flat though and could have done with a bit more stuff weaved in.
