Learn how to be Jedi brave with Yoda and Burryaga!
Beloved Jedi Master Yoda teaches Jedi Younglings and Padawans of every species, including fan-favorite Wookiee Burryaga, to overcome their fears in this timeless tale for children.
Set in the era of the High Republic, this beautifully-illustrated book teaches empowering lessons through the lens of familiar, lovable characters.
This is a kid's book that is technically part of a series. One does not need to be caught up to date in that series to read this. In this one Yoda teaches some younglings to face their fear.
I am not going to go into much detail with this review as there is not much to this offering. It is what it sets out to be. A kid's book with a message. It does this easily with the story and the illustrations. In other words it was super cute. I am saying that with not being the target audience. That being said there is not a lot of substance to it and it is a very quick read. I think it took me a total of five minutes to get through it.
I believe enjoyment from this book depends on why you are reading this. If you are reading it for a epic adventure or additional information to the overall series it will not provide that. But if you are reading this to your kids at night you will love the enjoyment they get from this offering.
Though I wasn't familiar with the characters (outside of Yoda), I thought this was a very cute picture book with good lessons in bravery/resiliency. My kids enjoyed it too, so much so they ripped several pages and asked for multiple readings.
I loved this young children's book by Rosemary & Charles Soule and Valerie Valdivia's beautiful illustrations. I especially loved all the High Republic easter eggs in the book--seeing Avar Kriss, Elzar Mann and Stellan Gios as well as Bel Zetifar and his trusty charhound! Good story for young children to know it is ok to be afraid and how you can also be brave at the same time.
Are you filled with fear? Fear not, Yoda teaches in this guide to facing your fears. Yoda enters the Jedi training room filled with younglings who are learning only to find three younglings stuck in fear. Yoda then introduces Burryaga, a Wookie, who shares his own fear of climbing trees which he conquered one step at a time. Yoda and Burryaga then take each youngling to a specific planet where they face and conquer their fears. In the end, all the younglings face the greatest fear of all, the unknown.
Yoda reveals different ways children can work to conquer the fears they will need to face: step-by-step like Burryaga, by taking time to learn about things we don’t understand like Toko, by learning to try like Jon, or by learning to pause like Bree. These are all tools children can add to their toolboxes to pull out when fear arises. Although, parents may need to think twice and advise children of the perils in the ocean which Yoda skips over – “If swim you, then you can swim anywhere” – no mention of riptides here! yikes.
4 STARS - RECOMMENDED: Familiar characters such as Yoda, Wookies, and Droids will draw in fans of Star Wars who will leave better equipped to face fears in their own lives.
Thank you to the publisher who provided a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
What a nice little book for children. It's simple and yet contains many examples of people's fears and how to be brave. The story is well written and the characters diverse. My son loved that there was a Wookie and Yoda in the story (Chewbacca and Yoda are his favorite).
The story kept my son's interest throughout and I enjoyed the lessons being conveyed. The artwork is great: bright, detailed, and relatable (you can really read the emotions on each character, even the droid).
I don't think you need to be a Star Wars fan in order to enjoy this book and it's message, but it sure helps for there are world building Easter eggs throughout. I definitely recommend it.
Been excited for this one since its announcement. From Charles Soule (my favourite Star Wars comic writer) and his Daughter Rosemary (for her debut book). A Star wars kids book about how to face your fears. A beautiful little story with gorgeous art by Valerie Valdivia. And I was very excited to finally have a book signed by Charles himself. And very happy for Rosemary on her debut.
Sure this book is not aimed at me, but the kid in me absolutely loved this little story and the beautiful art, with some fun High Republic cameos. A beautiful addition to my Star Wars High Republic collection.
The illustrations are the real star here, but it's also a sweet book. Kiddo sat very still, enraptured, as I read it to him (I think I did an...okay job of Yoda's voice lol). It was Kiddo's Star Wars Day present. ^_^
While it’s cute, nicely drawn and written, how come does Burry know his parents? Weren’t they supposed to like give him up before any attachment was formed?
Grand Master Yoda with the assistance of a Jedi Padawan named Burry, help three young younglings overcome their fears about the training they are about to receive.
