3 estrellas.

Though Risotto is sure of his victory, Doppio soon proves himself a dangerous opponent, whose skills - and shocking secrets - keep their fight on a razor's edge, and soon spills over to the search for truth Bucciarati and his allies are risking...with potentially devastating consequences. Araki will keep fans on the edge of their seats in this astonishing entry.

End of the Metallica v King Crimson fight, so good! Plus dramatic Abbachio death, and the start of Cioccolata and Secco. Amazing!

The explanation for stand arrows felt kind of unnecessary. I'm not sure if they're trying to say that all stand powers came from the meteroite's infection; or if stand powers are just a side effect of being exposed to it. I sincerely hope that stands powers aren't due to some sort of space infection. Stand arrows can come from space rocks- that's fine. But if all stands to, that's some midichlorian level garbo. It also doesn't make much sense to me that the computer guy would hang out on the page for Diavolo's fingerprints. It would have made much more sense if he'd partnered up with Bruno's crew or La Squadra once they began making waves. This very much feels like something that was come up with on the fly as a way of saving the trip to the island (and Abbacchio's death) from being a waste.

Aaanyway, the Mettalica-Doppio fight was good stuff. The scenes leading up to Abbacchio's death were really intense. It was a well executed slow build of tension, with cascading payoffs. Abbaccio meeting his old partner in the after life was a really sweet resolution to his story. He ended up getting closer to justice as a gangster than he did as a cop.

I wish Abbacchio got more screentime, as he sort of faded into the background after Man in the Mirror. Not to the extent that Fugo did, but close. Narancia, Bruno, Giorno, and Mista are the characters who have really gotten the most character development. With Abbacchio, he was more of the a strong, silent figure.

This new stand is genuinely freaky. I've become fairly desensitized to gore in manga (if feels like much of Golden Wind has treated that as a goal). But something about the patterns of holes caused by the moss makes my skin crawl in a way manga hasn't been able to achieve in a long time.

This volume is not as standout as some of the others, but it's still good shit. It definitely feels like we're heading towards the climax as the gang is losing members, Diavolo is becoming more hands on, and we have a target to chase after.
