Frustrated with the merry-go-round of political dinners and enforced good behavior, Lotty's determined to try a normal life on for size. However, she's completely unprepared for her sexy new boss, Corran McKenna.
Bored with people bowing and scraping, Lotty doesn't mind Corran's frowns, but his wicked grin causes trouble! A no-strings fling with the only man who's ever seen the real—rather than the royal—her is irresistible, but what will happen when her real identity becomes headline news?
After a haphazard career spent working and travelling around the world, I stumbled into romance writing as a way to fund a PhD. My first book, A Sweeter Prejudice, came out in 1991, and since then I've written a further 59 books, some of which have won awards in the US and the UK. I live in York, a historic city in the north of England, and waste the best part of my days planning trips away or on Facebook and Twitter, both of which mean that I end up writing late into the night. As well as romance, I write 'time slips' as Pamela Hartshorne, and am a freelance project editor and occasional writing tutor.
In May 2013 I will publishing the Jessica Hart Vintage Collection of five of my early books from the 90s. For news of forthcoming books and exclusive offers, do sign up for my newsletter: email jessica@jessicahart.co.uk or come and find me on Facebook.
3.5 stars It's a sweet and heart-warming story about opposites attract, about finding love where you least expect it. JH's writing style is so compelling and her characters are so likeable. Who can resist a grumpy grouchy hero with a tough exterior not quietly covering a soft spot inside? Definitely not princess Charlotte or Lotty who - under the cover of anonymity - is trying to find her true self. She is taking a break from her glamorous life and is enjoying her freedom to be an ordinary girl. She is spending her days working hard in scotland, at Loch Mhoraigh Farm House owned by the reclusive Corran and enjoying every minute of it. Or has it anything to do with Corran himself ?! To all intent and purpose, these two have no future together. But love conquers everything. And the last scene where Corran breaches the security, gate- crashes the party and confronts Lotty's grandmother - the very scary Dowager - makes him worthy of our lovely princess.
The Secret Princess is the second book I have read by Jessica Hart. After reading Ordinary Girl in a Tiara, I couldn’t wait to read the follow up story. I was not disappointed. I loved this book. Up-lifting, tender and feel-good are just some of the words I describe her writing. I will definitely be reading more of her books.
Charlotte has led a charmed and privileged life as the princess of Montluce. She has followed protocol and been the good girl and has always done what her grandmother Blanche asked her to do. But she wants to discover the normal world where she can be herself. With the help of her cousin, Prince Phillipe and her best friend Caro, she temporarily escapes from the palace. Arriving in a small village, she hears about a job at Loch Mhorajgh House. Heads out to the isolated estate but when she meets the grumpy, sexy owner, Corran McKenna, is told that she is not suitable for the work and is sent packing. But Lotty does not give up . Through her persistence she manages to secure the job of cleaning and painting the cottages and works really hard to prove herself, while hiding her true identity. Corran inherited the estate which is in disrepair and since resigning from the military has been working on getting the estate to its former glory. She’s a distraction he doesn’t need. He needs someone that is suited to his life of isolation and practicality. She can’t even make a cup of tea and spends days trying to make scones that are never edible. He knows nothing about Lotty’s background and knows she is not going to stay for long but she slowly creeps into his thoughts and gradually he can’t imagine life without her. Lotty is attracted to Corran, who is the first man to treat her like a woman and decides that she wants to lose her virginity to him before she goes back home. Would Corran want her as his wife when he discovers who she really is? And what happens when he finds out from the gossip tabloids that Princess Charlotte, back home in her palace, may be pregnant with his baby?
The Secret Princess is a well-written story with engaging characters with great dialogue. Corran might appear domineering and uncompromising but inside he is intensely emotional and tender. Hearing him talking to Pookie, his mother’s dog that he is looking after is absolutely hilarious. Lotty trying to learn how to cook and bake those scones day after day was funny and tender. I loved the way that Lotty didn’t suddenly become a farmer’s wife but rather changed Corran’s life. She has discovered the woman she has always wanted to be...courageous and determined.
The Secret Princess is part of The Princess Swap series. This story is connected to Ordinary Girl in a Tiara (Harlequin Romance, June 2011), also by Jessica Hart. While there is some mention about the other story, you don't need to read both or read them in order to enjoy The Secret Princess.
THE SECRET PRINCESS is another Harlequin Romance Presentation by the fabulous pen of author Jessica Hart from mini series Princess Swap.
First we briefly met Princess Charlotte of Montluce, in Jessica Hart’s, An Ordinary Girl in a Tiara, where she manages to cajole her best friend, Caro, to pretend interest in her cousin, Prince Philippe to give her time to enjoy normal life outside the confines of the Royal Palace.
The Book Blurb reads:
Royal Exclusive: "Perfect" princess goes AWOL!
Frustrated with the merry–go–round of political dinners and enforced good behavior, Lotty's determined to try a normal life on for size. However, she's completely unprepared for her sexy new boss, Corran McKenna.
Bored with people bowing and scraping, Lotty doesn't mind Corran's frowns, but his wicked grin causes trouble! A no–strings fling with the only man who's ever seen the real—rather than the royal—her is irresistible, but what will happen when her real identity becomes headline news?
My Review:
Giving her security people the slip, Princess Charlotte of Montluce, heads out to isolated and unfriendly Loch Mhoraigh House to look for employment. The estate owner, Corran McKenna, though needing an employee sends her packing. Through her persistence she manages to secure the job of cleaning and painting the cottages and works really hard to prove herself, while hiding her true identity.
She enjoys when rather than bowing before her Corran scowls and is crabby around her. She feels attracted to him, and spend more time wondering how it would feel being kissed by him than her work. He is the only man who starts to get to know her as a woman and Lotty decides to lose her virginity to him before returning to the Palace.
She asks him to kiss her and he obliges so willingly as he had also been wondering how it would feel to kiss her, despite knowing that she is not his type!
How this two journey to love is very sweetly depicted. When Lotty is being kissed by Corran for the first time, the emotional and sexual tension draws you in as it is very realistically written.
But what would happen when Corran comes to know about Lotty’s background? Would he deem a Princess suitable to be a farmer’s wife?
And what would happen when Corran finds out later through gossip columns’ that Princess Charlotte, back in her royal palace, just may be pregnant?
The Secret Princess is a well-woven royal tale which has engaging characters and is filled with good dialogue and delightful resolution. The hero appears uncompromising and domineering on the outside but is really intensely emotional and tender on the inside.
The heroine, Lotty is filled with innocence but is very strong and turns out to be a hard-worker. Corran and Lotty catches your attention and your heart.
Jessica Hart’s latest, The Secret Princess is a romance that sparkles with mesmerizing emotions!
4.5. I really liked this story. Lotty and Corran's relationship was hilariously entertaining and seems like what a relationship should be. Hef perspective of how your social status can take so much, even with all you do have can be wearing on a person. Plus, enjoyed watching Corran knock Grandmere down a few pegs! Talk about crap security though! I understand her need to discover her true self and what she's capable of. At the end of the day, Royalty is still comprised of human beings after all. Too bad there's not more books in the series. They're bantering is hilarious and awesome! 4.5⭐

The story was good to fill the spare time, but its too irdinary. A princess in the run, want to be ordinary woman, then meet with a man, fall in love, and forsaken the riches for ordinary. No enemy or anything here, purely romance.
