Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA. She nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorise and she hadn't taken her first breath!).

Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana but has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write.

Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multi-generational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland and existed amongst the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.

I don't think I'd ever change my mind about Luke...

Nothing new, still love it. Do you think it's strange that Ava was upset that Luke dragged her off in a fireman's hold? I do. If someone wanted to cart me around as a show of possessiveness and need, well, let's just say I wouldn't be complaining. Mind you, I think it would probably hurt a little considering the muscles he's packing. Still, I'd suffer...lordy, how I'd suffer.

To infinity and beyond stars...

It's still bloody brilliant. I still love Lucas Stark. The Hot Bunch Rules. The Rock Chicks are awesome.

Of course, I'm not changing my ratings. Of course, it's still my favourite in this series. Of course, I'll probably listen to it again very soon.

Listening to Rock Chick Revenge is my happy place. I always finish with a smile on my face and plan to visit with David Gandy...I mean Lucas Stark again soon.

Peace and Love, Peoples...peace and love... 😉❤

More dribble and drool from my previous visits...

5 ‘I need cookies’ stars!!!

OMG I love me some LUKE STARK!!! Okay... now thats out of the way, on to the review!

Ava Barlow is a changed woman. After being a little overweight, wearing glasses, and having mousy brown hair most of her life, she has decided to make a change. Five years ago, she saw the man she has always had feelings for, Luke Stark, at a funeral. After some crude comments from her nasty sisters, she vowed she wouldn’t see him until she transformed herself. And thats exactly what she did. With her transformation came a lot of man trouble. A lot. She has terrible luck when it comes to men. So she’s sworn them off. No men for Ava, just her b.o.b. But now, her best friend Sissy is in trouble. Ava wants to help her, but she needs help. Help from Luke and the Hot Bunch. I just love Ava’s reaction when she meets all the Hot Bunch...
I figured the Nightingale Investigations job application form had the question "Are you hot? Yes. No. If you answered no, please exit the building.”

Luke cannot believe his eyes. He doesn’t even recognize Ava at first... Ava. The girl he’s known since she was eight and he was twelve. Someone who has always been there for him (apart from the last five years)
“I've liked you since you were eight years old. You made me laugh. You understood me. You looked out for me when no once else fuckin' bothered and you acted like you thought I could move mountains and I needed someone who thought that about me.”

But this isn’t exactly the same Ava he remembers, and not just looks wise. Ava’s past has made her a bit bitchy towards men, Luke included. Luke will help Ava, but he wants to do more than help her. He wants her, in his bed, as his woman.

 photo 50ec3de2-e888-4e4a-aa40-f45431a30984_zps1403b358.jpg
“You’ve been mine since you were eight.”

It isn’t easy for Ava to trust a man. Not after she has been burned so many times. But she trusts Luke. She just doesn’t want to get hurt. She’s worried he has feelings for someone else and she knows if she gives him the final piece of herself, and he destroys it, there will be nothing left.
“Luke, you have to know, it won’t be like the other guys. If it’s you, it’ll be worse.”
My voice went softer, lower, barely a whisper.
“If this goes bad, it’ll destroy me.”

When it’s all said and done, will Ava be able to give Luke herself, trust him? Or will she stay determined to keep her heart safe and be alone...

 photo 17c64646-7a44-458d-b32b-b4cd28cd13c1_zpsb86c242e.jpg

Let me just tell you right off the bat... there will be a lot of quotes and gushing from here on out. I love these books! LOVE THEM! This book, and Vance and Jules book are both my favorite so far, I can’t choose! I just love everything about them...

How the HOT BUNCH works...
“He isn't my man."
"Girl, it don't matter you don't think he is, he thinks he is. Therefore in Badass Motherfucker Land, that means he is.”

Ava’s inner dialogue (good Ava.... bad Ava...)
“Oh my goodness, Luke’s massaging your arm! Isn’t that sweet? Good Ava trilled in my ear.
Jump him! Rip his pants off! Bad Ava shouted in my other ear.”

Overall, Ava was just pretty funny
“Fuck buddies don’t have rules. It’s like being in a fight club. The first rule of fuck buddies is… there are no rules.” I was making this up as I went along. I had no idea if fuck buddies had rules. I’d never had a fuck buddy. I’d never even wanted one. Hell, I didn’t want one now!”

And so was Luke...
“You leave me cuffed, I’ll never speak to you again,” I told him.
“Babe,” now he sounded amused, “that’s a good thing. You got a mouth on you.”

Then of course, theres Tex :D
“I ain’t cuffin’ Luke to no bed,” Tex boomed, tearing me away from my intriguing thoughts. “Fuck, I’m not cuffin’ Lee or Vance to a bed, either. Those boys would lose their badass motherfucker minds. I got a girlfriend and fifteen cats. I get tortured and killed, who’s gonna take care of Nancy and my kitties?”
“You’re gonna be in my bed and not like last night. I’m gonna give you a taste of me and I’m gonna take more than a taste of you.”

"I'm not lettin' you go. I'm not lettin' you push me away and I'm not giving up. I'm gonna keep working until I piece together what they stole from you. I'm gonna keep at you until you let me in. I'm not gonna stop until you tell me you're mine, until it comes straight from your mouth, preferably when I'm deep inside you and you're lookin' at me like you look at me when I'm close to makin' you come."
And the SWEET
Luke made me SWOON
“Get this into your head Ava, I'm not gonna do anything to fuck this up between us but I'm also not gonna let you do anything to fuck it up either.”

“Life’s too short, I’m through talkin’. This is happening, we both know it, we both feel it and you even admitted it. Ava Babe, stop fighting it.”

 photo 6aaa636e-0e70-4cca-9abf-a4620b6e614a_zpsdca900fb.jpg

Then there is the action... there is always some action in a Rock Chick book. This one has plenty. Between Sissy’s problem’s coming to bite Ava, to her crazy ass ex coming back in the picture, there is never a dull moment! We catch up will all our favorite Rock Chicks, and members of the Hot Bunch! Then we get to meet a man named Ren. I loved Ren! Can’t wait to read more about that guy ;)

I loved the history between Luke and Ava. Luke was sweet, sexy, protective, and I couldn’t wait for him to give those little smirks! He was patient with Ava. Ava worked my nerves at time, but all of her actions and the way she tried to guard her heart were done for a good reason. I understood her. I ended up liking her a lot. She was tough, and super funny.

The ending of this one was fantastic! There is a wedding, pregnancy, and engagement... but you will have to read to find out who does what. Once again, another five star Kristen Ashely book! This woman’s writing and story telling abilities are just amazing! I am so happy I still have three more Rock Chick books to go! If you haven’t read this series, give it a go!

Btw, that quote is basically the definition of this book :D

Ava constantly tries to get out of it, while Luke does everything he can to stop her :D

Anyway, she is great and funny, loved her "Bad Ava" and "Good Ava"

Luke is the bestest of them for me <3 No wonder this is my favorite RC book :))

“Jesus Christ,” he muttered to the ceiling. “All those times I sat in the office laughing my ass off at stories of Lee, Eddie, Hank and Vance. They should have fuckin’ medals.”

Indeed :DDDD

*squeeeee* I LOVED THIS BOOK!!! What a winner!!

This is tied with books 1&4 for fav in the series so far! It had me laughing out loud, squeeing (out loud), tearing up, grinning for pages on end and fanning myself from the hotness (seriously, KA sure knows how to write make up sex!). PURE WIN!!!

"I'm not lettin' you go. I'm not lettin' you push me away and I'm not giving up. I'm gonna keep working until I piece together what [they] stole from you. I'm gonna keep at you until you let me in. I'm not gonna stop until you tell me you're mine, until it comes straight from your mouth, preferably when I'm deep inside you and you're lookin' at me like you look at me when I'm close to makin' you come."

I apologize for the long gushy review - I just really loved it and had to share :P

Ava has known Luke since they were kids. But he went off to become a professional Badass fairly early on, and so they never actually got together. Unfortunately, her experience in life has led her to believe that all men are pretty much scum. But when her best friend's lying cheating scumbag of a husband finally pulls one stunt too many, she decides to find Luke, now a professional investigator/Badass and enlist his help to get some dirt on said scumbag. He of course is more than happy to help but Ava is nervous and wary about dealing with him due to some of her personal insecurities. But it soon becomes very clear that that was only the tip of the problem iceberg and when things blow up, and he realized she isn't going to share, he hand cuffs them together and takes them home to figure things out and the "Badass Motherfucker Courtship" begins :D

"I'll put money down that she's livin' with him in 4 days."...
"3 days."...
"A week, she's got spirit."...
I shook my head, I needed to focus...and go, go, go.
I opened the door.
Before it closed behind me, I heard Luke say strangely, "Tonight."
Then everyone laughed."

I'll say this first. I. LOVED. LUKE. Seriously. WOW! What a character <3

"I've known you since you were eight... I've liked you since you were eight," he said.

I fell in love with him since we first saw him several books ago in the series but he really just shines in this book. God I love a man who is not only insanely HOT, brutally honest, defends his woman to the ends of the earth and takes no shit from anyone about anything, but at the same time has a deeply soft side that with which he deals with Ava. He just was seriously functional , and a totally swoony over-protective Alpha Badass (yes, with a capital B) who was really creative with his handcuffs and had no problem literally ripping the clothes off his girl *waggles eyebrows*.

I just loved how tolerant, understanding and patient he was with Ava. He really truly understood how how deep her hurt goes and how much it has made her wary and untrusting and he's just so willing to show her through determination and rock steady efforts that he's not like the other men who have hurt her before and that he's absolutely, 100% seriously into her.

"Ava, you missed it when it happened so I'll clue you in. last night, around the time you fell asleep against me, you became mine."

Lol, but it was hilarious to finally see Luke deal with a woman of his own. We have been waiting for so long and seeing him handle it was hot-as-hell, hilarious and heart-melting.

"Jesus Christ," he muttered to the ceiling. "All those times I sat in the office and laughed my ass off at stories of Lee, Eddie, Hank and Vance. They should have fuckin' medals."

And honestly, a man who calls his woman 'babe' just melts my heart <3

And Ava! Gah she just about broke my heart with her cuteness at times while other times I just wanted to throttle her. But she was a totally awesome addition to the Rock Chick group - a strong, independent character with a big heart. In the beginning she does do some things that are a bit annoying but, given some of her life experiences, her general wariness and mistrust of men is understandable.

"He isn't my man."
"Girl, it dont matter you don't think he is, he thinks he is. Therefore in Badass Motherfucker Land, that means he is."

And what makes it okay is that Luke sees riiiight through her so her behaviour doesn't actually ever come between them.

"You wanna taste me?" he murmered.
Yes, I wanted to taste him. I would pay every penny of Aunt Ella's inheritance to taste him.
"No," I lied.
He did a full grin this time, a full satisfied grin. It was hot, so hot my knees totally buckles and he took all my weight into his body.
"Liar," he whispered, knowing he had me.

And he just keeps relentlessly working at their relationship, never giving up on her, and yet never giving in to her insecurities, until she feels safe enough to let her walls down and truly give her heart over to him.

“Daisy said to me that I was trying to find ways to protect my heart but I was doing it wrong. She told me the best way to protect my heart was to trust it to someone who will protect it for me”.
More silence but his body went completely still.
“That’s you. It’s always been you.”

Their chemistry was intense! You totally felt it! They had a bit of a rough start - lots of interruptions (buzzers, phone calls etc lol), but once they finally came together... *fans self*

"Oh my God, you totally need to fuck him or you're going to spontaneously combust."

And they worked through the bulk of their issues by about the 70% mark so we got to see them completely and acceptingly together as a couple for a good chunk of the book. Seeing them deal with some very painful and serious events that happen totally made my heart clench. It was heart-meltingly beautiful, at times very emotional and utterly squee-worthy.

KA is just absolutely BRILLIANT at writing families and conveying deep connections between characters. She is very subtle and direct in her writing style but you FEEL their emotions so strongly. It just feels so real. Her writing style is like no other. It hide nothing, implies nothing, its just in-your-face, straight up awesome story telling that sucks you right in.

This book was a bit emotionally deeper than the last few. It had my throat choked up and my eyes all misty more than a few times. Ava was reeeally hurt in her past and the tone come through in the story despite its overall typical 'Rock Chick' lightness. Something about it just really had my heart reaching out for both her and Luke.

The humour and the banter was just off the charts. Very few other writers have every made me laugh or squee as much as KA has. Everything from the vibrator burial scene to the betting pools over how it would take Luke to give Ava the business to Smithie getting treed by rabid rottweilers... so much fun! And of course, lets not forget the healthy dose of typical KA kidnappings, hostage situations, rescue missions, etc.

I love how, as the series progresses, we see more and more of the characters. What a HUGE core group - there must be at least like 25 of them and just the dynamic of all of them together makes for some absolutely BRILLIANT scenes.

Some pretty serious stuff goes down later in the book involving one of Ava's psycho ex's and when it does, seeing, literally e.v.e.r.y.o.n.e come together and mobilize to be there for her (and Luke) was so beyond heart warming. *mega shivers* it led to pages and pages of utterly squee-worthy scenes!! Including the first (INTENSE) Alpha showdown between two of the "good guys" and also what has to be THE most EPIC car chase scene in book history! I was grinning like an idiot when I was reading it.

"Swear to God, these boys should be locked up. It isn't safe, men with that much testosterone coursing through their blood free to roam."

I just love how all the Hot Bunch men in this series are the total macho Alpha badass do-not-mess-with-me men on the outside but are all heart-meltingly soft and sweet on the inside. SERIOUS SWOON MATERIAL!! ... have I used the word 'brilliant' yet? lol BRILLIANT BRILLIANT BRILLIANT!!!

"I figured the Nightengale Investigations job application form had the question "Are you hot? Yes. No. If you answered no, please exit the building."

oooo and there is a wedding at the end of this book - I won't spoil it with telling whose it is but it actually took me a little by surprise even though I've read all the books in order. So beautiful!

Can't wait for the next book! When this series is over, I'm gonna be seriously sad.

Here's how I see Luke and Ava:

Re-read Review - August 28-29, 2013.

I've had trouble picking my "favorite" Hot Bunch hero, but after my re-read of the first 5 books, I can say, without a doubt, that Luke is the one. Of all the men so far, he's the most similar to the men of the Colorado Mountain series, and I adore them! Luke is super bad-ass Alpha - yes, with a capital A - and he's the most crude and outspoken and intensely sexual of them all. And that right there, my friends, is why I'm in love with him, and why he's numero uno, comprende?

I fell hard for Ava, again. Such a sweetie. I just adore her, and she and Luke together are perfect!

Such a great story, start to finish!

Now on to Rock Chick Reckoning, Mace and Stella's story!

Original Review:

Those of you who read my reviews know that I normally go on for paragraphs, close to chapters… except when it comes to Kristen Ashley books. The reason for that is twofold…

1. There are just soooo many things to love about her awesome books that I can’t seem to do them justice, even if I ramble on for pages.

2. There are already a bjillion reviews out there, all singing her praises, so I’m doing you a favor by not making you sit through one of mine... not for too long, anyway.

That’s why I keep ‘em short. So here goes…

Ava: ADORE her!

Luke: Abso-fecking-lutely in love with him!

The Story: All kinds of awesome.

Lot's of extra time with other Rock Chicks and Hot Bunch guys. LOVE THAT!!

Secondary Characters: They don’t feel secondary, ever. I love each and every one of them and unlike some books, they never, ever, EVER feel like filler.

So that’s why I love this book, and why you, if you haven’t already, need to climb on the Kristen Ashley train!

Woot! Woot! ROCK ON!

4.5 stars

My favorite Rock Chick book since the first one. Why? I have loved Luke for many books now, for one reason. Secondly, I love the Rock Chick world and crazy characters. How can I not love a book that has this quote:
Tex shouted, "Jee-zus, huggin' and cryin' and badass motherfucker showdowns in livin' rooms and takin' a break from the action to have Sunday breakfast with your man's mother, what the fuck? We gonna take a side trip to the mall next or do we want to find this fuckin' guy?"

"Actually, I could use a side trip to the mall," Sissy put in...

"I could go to the mall too," Daisy added....

"We goin' to find Jeremiah?" Olivia asked, following us....

"Yeah, after the mall," I told her.

See, a group of girlfriends taking time out of their catch-the-bad-guy schedule to go to the mall? I can totally appreciate that. Priorities, you know.

So, in this book ,we have Luke, the hottie from the last few books, getting together with Ava, a girl who lived across the street from him from the time she was 8 years old. Ava was a fat kid with glasses and grew up staying fat and feeling like crap about herself. She also had a crush on Luke since childhood and decided, after seeing him as an adult, that she was going to get her crap together, lose weight, and finally take a shot at him. Of course, life came along and she ended up with another guy who totally ruined her faith in men. She's sworn them off. But, after getting into a jam, she tries to hire Luke to help her. Of course, Mr. Alpha decides that she is his. "Me man. You woman. Me want. Unga Bunga!" Okay, so maybe that's not exactly what he says, but it is what he means.

Of course, the Rock Chicks and the Hot Bunch (the guys) have seen this scenario play out many times and they know exactly how things are going to go down.

"So, we had a pool. Everyone threw down money on when they thought Luke would nail you. Mace won five hundred dollars...So, did he nail you or did you just sleep?"

"We just slept."

"New pool!" Shirleen shouted.

And, Shirleen gets to be Ava's Rock Chick mentor because it's her turn. It is epic! Shirleen is absolutely awesome.

We arrived and Shirleen was on the phone, handset in the crook of her neck, peering into a hand-held mirror, plucking her eyebrows.
She dropped the mirror and tweezers upon seeing us. "Dorothea, gotta go, my girl's here with her girl. We gotta lock old Sissy down so the Italians don't get her. Long story, I'll tell you later..."

Another later epic moment is when the famous girl who Indy tazed in her book, and Daisy fought and Jet tazed in the last book, shows up. And, there is the best car chase scene ever with more cars involved than the Indy 500.

The only downsides to this book. There were two: First, there are so many people quoting Luke saying "I never expected to want you in my bed, but I always knew I wanted you in my life" like it is the sweetest, most romantic thing ever. I didn't feel that way at all. He says this after telling her that he always thought she was pretty, even when she was overweight, and that he always liked her personality. And yet, he then says he never expected to want her as anything more than a friend? Why? Because she was overweight and not attractive enough for him. He said that she was pretty, funny, and kind... .but it wasn't enough while she was overweight. He never wanted her in a sexual way until the only thing that changed about her was her weight. That's kind of shitty, really. How's he going to deal with her pregnant, or what if she can't lose her pregnancy weight right away? The best husbands are the kind that remind a girl that she needs to lose a few pounds, right girls?

The other problem I had with it showed itself to me after reading something written by my friend, Karly https://www.goodreads.com/story/show/...
It made me notice how Luke reacted when Ava had been inappropriately touched by her ex. It suddenly became all about him. She was even afraid to tell him what happened because she was worried about his reaction. Then, she had to try and calm him down and reassure him as if HE were the victim. It was weird. I get that any man would be angry in this situation, but he reacted like it was a personal affront that some other man dared to touch his property. Um.... no..... just no.

Center of the universe? You mean my Throne Room?..

E.T.A...... Oh yeah, wtf is with Ava answering her phone "yo" every time? What, is she is twelve year old boy trying to sound cool? What grown-up woman answers her phone like that every.single.time? I mean, when she was happy, sad, angry, in the car with a kidnapper, at the hospital...
So freaking stupid!!!

One word: Ren “Hothead Italian American Badass” Zano

Well, I guess that makes it six words??

Listen, I was supposed to be feeling all kinds of hot and bothered for Luke, the H whose story is told in this book and I’ve been looking forward to reading since forever, BUT my heart (melting)... my eyes (softening)... my mouth (watering)... and other body parts (quivering)... wouldn’t cooperate with me and only swooned for Ren, the other rival love interest. I might be slightly exaggerating with that body betraying comment, but you catch my drift.

I have a few (okay, THREE) issues as to why I didn’t rate this higher, not that four stars isn’t already... high. The first being that Luke calls Ava babe. I don’t mind the endearment, but he uses it with all the other Rock Chicks too. I just wanted Ava to have something different. I mean, he also calls her beautiful, but it’s still mostly babe. Luke and his handcuffing business though, YUM! Idk if I wanted to run the other way or give him my hands in submission. 😂

Second, I’m not a fan of the ugly duckling trope. You see, Ava used to be “chubby.” She’d get mean comments and hateful looks from people (mostly her bitch sisters). Idk why considering I’m not even a plus size person myself, but this topic is always sensitive to me. I don’t think I’ve ever read a romance with this narrative that I truly adore or is believable to me. Not saying that there’s something wrong or problematic with how it’s utilized in here.

Lastly, practically every single guy in this book is chasing after Ava—now that she’s 70 pounds lighter and sexier. There’s Luke, Ren, Ava’s con-artist ex, Ava’s BEST FRIEND’s husband, and her personal trainer. That’s just OTT. I’m pretty sure she’s kidnapped FOUR times and sexually assaulted too in this book. Damn! Imagine being that drop-dead gorgeous. If it were me, I’d be all drop-dead without the gorgeous part by the end of the day.

Excellent re-read and just what I needed.
I still ended up crying for a better part of the last 30% of the book.
With Ava and her soul searching and Luke trying to convince her that he's one of the good guys and handling her with care. Luke being someone (the only one) she can show her soft spot and KNOW he'll protect it because he's considered her 'precious cargo' since he was 17.

Just and absolute YES for me for this book, and that's obvious because this was my 10th re-read of it. 😳

Luke said to Ava:
"There are two kinds of women. The ones you go to bed with and the ones you wanna wake up with. Lots of the first, not many of the last. If a man's lucky, he'll find the last."

Wow, loved it! This was my very first taste of the Rock Chicks series and a friends-to-lovers story. My GR friends know that I'm not a reader who feels the urge to read a series in order. And Rock Chick Revenge can be read as a stand-alone. Unfortunately, Kristen Ashley's Play it Safe didn't work for me and I am really happy that I'm back in reader's heaven. Again. Admittedly, some parts of this story were a bit far-fetched and it was a bit OTT at times as well but then again, who cares? Holy cow, Ava can throw sass! Yes, Ava babe, you can glare all you want but it is true! Ava's got attitude and then some! She knows how to use her mouth (uh, pun intended). She is funny, sweet, caring, and bitchy as all get out! Luke. YOWZA!!! Love this guy! Another badass, hot as sin, fabulous specimen of a man. He's very, verrry bossy and demanding, yet extremely gentle, tender, and protective. Luke is a nice guy who's trying to protect and keep Ava safe. He does it in an ultra pushy, unbelievably blunt, tough guy, macho man way. Aw, yes, I already mentioned Ava's mouth:

"You leave me cuffed, I'll never speak to you again," I told him.
"Babe," now he sounded amused, "that's a good thing. You got a mouth on you."

What follows suit is the famous Ava Barlow Silent Treatment and I enjoyed it!

If you're in a bad mood then you should read Rock Chick Revenge. Jeez, this was loads of fun, fun, fun and I had a good laugh! This story is filled with so much banter, lots and lots of witty dialogs, great characters, and quite a lot of action and drama. It felt like an action-filled (love) comedy. Honestly, don't take this story too seriously. Even when they had a "serious" situation I just knew we'd be back on track in no time flat. I loved to see how Luke and Ava locked horns and when the Barlow Bitch Blood started to flash through Ava's veins…woot! It was incredibly entertaining. A total blast! Furthermore, I was so mesmerized by the amazing Luke Lip Fog as well! And guess what? A Bad Boy pursuing a Rock Chick with competition on his ass means…trouble (trouble with a capital T).

The sex/love scenes were steamy, sizzling hot, and well-written. Even in bed the banter was ever-present.

"Make you a deal. Tonight I'll bring the cuffs. Whoever manages to get the other cuffed to the bed gets to play."
That was hardly a good deal for me.
"You just pointed out the obvious, you're stronger than me."
"Babe, you're not using your imagination."
I have a good imagination, Bad Ava reminded me, her voice dripping with anticipation.
Me too, Good Ava surprised me, her voice sounding dreamy.
I smiled slowly.
Then I said, "Deal."
He touched his lips to mine, eyes open, and murmured, "Never thought life could be this sweet."

Ava had to wait more than twenty years to finally declare…"I love you, Luke." I think it was so worth the wait!

Rock Chick Revenge is another compelling and great story written by the amazing Kristen Ashley. Highly recommended if you're in need of a hilarious, sweet, action-packed, and fast-paced love story! Enjoy!

Meet my Luke! YUM!

Reread on 9/11/13
I still feel exactly the same way I felt the first time I read this book, only I'm even more in love with Luke now!! Ava too, but let's be honest, none of us care about anything more than Luke here, lol!!! No Seriously!! I must say, this has been my favorite book of this series. I've read all of these once back in January except Ally's, and there just isn't a comparison to Lucas Stark. I love when alpha men are blunt, straight to the point, but sorta the lethal silent type as well. I have loved all of the Hot Bunch and Rock Chicks, but for me, Luke and Ava will always hold a special place in my heart. :)

Original Review written January 2013
Luke Stark has ruined me for all other book boyfriends. After meeting him a few times in the other previous books, I was really looking forward to him getting his own story, WOW, there is no comparison to him. BY FAR, my favorite book of this series so far. I am in LOVE with Luke Stark. Literally, I could go on and on.

"Ava Babe, I'm tellin' you, you're gonna admit you belong to me because you belong to me."
"Luke, please, let me go home."
"No fuckin' way."

Luke and Ava are just perfect. The story begins with Ava coming to Luke to ask for help with her friends crazy soon to be ex-husband. Ava has some insecurity problems not to mention she has decided to hate men from now on. Luke and Ava had grown up across the street from each other as kids until Luke graduated and gone. The last time they had spoken was when his father had died and she promised a beer later, but later never came. NOT because of Luke, because of something Ava overheard. So now it's new Ava and new hotter Luke and as in all the Rock Chick books, a good dose of trouble.

We get more of the Rock Chick crew, more of the newly named HOT BUNCH, (yum) plus a side dose this time of car chases, kidnappings, and a hostage situation. Not to mention Ava had a crazy ex who Luke went after that seriously backfired. And let me just say the way Luke and Ava handled that situation was perfection.

Of course we get all of the hilarity out of this installment just like the others. Smithie finds himself tree'd with two dogs standing guard. Tex still yells at the customers and plays favorites on who is next in line and the girls still like all of their shopping, gossiping, and bad ideas. It was just the most awesome book. So awesome, I don't really know how to move on to the next one.

"This is the way it is for us right now. I know you fixed this place up but I'm not givin' up the loft so we're gonna have to work somethin' out about where we live, eat, sleep, and fuck. We last, you're gonna have to give up the Range Rover, they're dangerous because they roll easy and I don't like you drivin' it. We go the distance, we're havin' a small wedding, I'm not fuckin' dancin' and I want three kids, all boys, but if we have a girl she's not datin' until she's twenty-five, especially if she looks like you, got me?-Luke
ummm, yea, I would have jumped him.

This man was sex on a stick the entire book. Doesn't beat around the bush and says exactly what he wants and does it. OMG, the guy wanted payments and punishments and I was trying to get in between him and Ava and take her them for her, seriously!! I was beggin' for my chance at a "Luke Lip Fog".

I will end this with I want more Luke and Ava!! I am starting a petition!! I need more Luke and Ava. Who's with me?!?!?!?!

This is by far my favourite of the series! I adore Luke and Love Ava. My most re read Rock Chick, if not KA book of all!

I love that they had a history.

Luke and Ava had known each other when they were younger, Luke being 4 years older than Ava. Ava had an awful mother and sisters, who bullied her, and she found her comfort in food, and as such was overweight and unhappy. She idolised Luke though, but he moved away when she was 14 and he was 18, she sees him occasionally over the next 2 years, and then he disappears for 8 years. Ava only sees him again at his fathers funeral, where she overhears her sisters making terrible comments about her due to her weight, and she vows next time she sees Luke she will have lost the weight.

5 years pass, but by the time she meets Luke again, she has been burned by men, and has sworn off them for good.

I love how Luke just fell for Ava, never expecting her to mean anything romantic to him (not due to her weight, but more due to her age the last time he really spent any time with her) It would not bother him one bit, if she put back on some of the weight she had lost - as long as she was happy, as to him, she was his "beautiful Ava"

And this is my Luke! Which is probably all I need to say!

“He isn't my man."
"Girl, it don't matter you don't think he is, he thinks he is. Therefore in Badass Motherfucker Land, that means he is.”

This is a book that truly surprised me with how much I enjoyed it. 26% in or so I thought the hero was a bit rapey, but then it got so so good and I ended up loving Luke.

Rock Chick Revenge is about former "fatty" (as she put in her own words) Ava who goes to an old friend Luke with a problem her best friend is having. Right away Luke is more than happy to reunite, in fact he all but abducts Ava into his life.

“I'm not stupid, I know your heart's involved in this and I've never, not once in all the time you've known me, given you the idea that I won't handle it with care.”

My weakness with romance is an insecure heroine and angst. This book had heaps of both so I thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved Ava and her journey, how she didn't just give in to Luke and believed everything right away. Their relationship took work and Luke was willing to put in the time.

I also thought this book was funny as hell and almost no one pissed me off which is a miracle cause with this series, normally someone is pissing me off. I got frustrated at some times with how Luke treated Ava, but later he more than made up for it and I ended up loving him. Even if he was a little bit rapey.

I think I'm off to binge what's left of KA's back list. I don't wanna run out but her books are hitting the spot!!!

“Ava, you missed it when it happened so I’ll clue you in. Last night, around the time you fell asleep against me, you became mine.”

It's KA.

Need I say more?

I thought Vance was my favorite of the Hot Bunch alpha males, but then I met Luke Stark...

“Get this into your head Ava, I'm not gonna do anything to fuck this up between us but I'm also not gonna let you do anything to fuck it up either.”

Luke, you are

And Ava may try to fight it, but in the end it always comes down to this:

“He isn't my man."
"Girl, it don't matter you don't think he is, he thinks he is. Therefore in Badass Motherfucker Land, that means he is.”

That is all. <3

Re-read: 14.03.2017
I have no fucking clue as to why I suddenly started re-reading this book. Sure Ava Barlow (29) and Lucas Stark (33) are a cute couple, but this book is so far from my favorite, specially in this series... But Luke is hot. Very much so. Lee and Ren, too. Love them. The Rock Chicks though... I so do not get along with them. So why do I find myself coming fucking back all the fucking time :O!? I do understand that the Hot Bunch is worth is, but the girls? No so sure...
His hand came up and his fingers wrapped around my head and the third hot guy in a day (or a little more than one, I didn’t know what time it was, I just knew it was dark outside) leaned forward and put his forehead against mine.
Lee’s forehead lean was a lot different than Luke’s or Ren’s.
Lee’s was scary.

First read review:
I figured the Nightingale Investigations job application form had the question "Are you hot? Yes. No. If you answered no, please exit the building.

So damn mixed up! Here's the thing: I love Kristen Ashley's males. Her writing for them is perfect. Great. Hot. Sexy. Perfect. BUT, (yes, there is a damn but here, too) I have problems with her damn female characters. They annoy me to the point of wanting to slam my head into the wall. Sometimes I get them, but most of Kristen's females are in the late twenties and acts like they are sixteen. I have a huge problem with grown ups not acting their age, or not acting close to their age.
“There are two kinds of women. The ones you go to bed with and the ones you wanna wake up with. Lots of the first, not many of the last. If a man's lucky, he'll find the last.”

It gets too much at times, for me it seems, since everyone else seem to love this series. I like it just fine, the males really makes it worth it, but I don't love it. This is my third book in Rock Chick series (yes, I jumped numbers: going from book one, to book six, to book five...) and it comes second on my list for this series so you understand that I didn't hate it.
“I'm not stupid, I know your heart's involved in this and I've never, not once in all the time you've known me, given you the idea that I won't handle it with care.”

Now that I've got that out of the way let's get to other things. The story? Predictable. A lot happened, but at the same time the book felt slow and it didn't feel like things happened. As you can tell: I have really mixed feeling about the book. I should, really, just give up this series...
“He isn't my man."
"Girl, it don't matter you don't think he is, he thinks he is. Therefore in Badass Motherfucker Land, that means he is.”

Quick basic facts:
Genre: - (Adult) Contemporary Romance
Series: - Series, Book Five
Love triangle? -
Cheating? -
HEA? -
Favorite character? - Ren Zano
Would I read more by this author/or of series? - Not of the series, I think. I've given up.
Would I recommend this book/series? - Everyone else seem to love it, yeah?
Will I read this again in the future? - No.

okay there was so much happening in this book and I honestly thought

which isn’t a bad thing because I was entertained throughout the whole book, but I also needed to take a breather a couple times (unlike the previous two KA books I’ve read where I binged both).

Luke (H):
➴ It’s unfair how KA knows how to write swoon worthy heroes I can’t help but fall for. As my third KA book, I can’t choose between Luke, Mitch and Tack as my favorite. 😭 with each hero I come across, there’s something special about them that stands out to me. In Luke’s case, I absolutely loved how he sees beauty from within. During Ava and Luke’s childhood, while everyone would make fun of her because of her weight, he would defend her from the bullies and had always seen her as beautiful because she was being herself. 🥺

Ava (h):
➴ so let’s talk about the amount of shit Ava went through in this book that she didn’t deserve:

she's been through a lot that I just wanted to hug her. :( but ngl, I was also quite annoyed with her a few times, such as the way she constantly lied, mainly to Luke, and I wanted to shake her and say just tell him the truth orrr every time Ren (I love the guy, but not for Ava lmao) appears, it sometimes felt like she had feelings for him? something I wasn’t a fan of, especially (78% in the book):

No, I wasn’t okay. All of a sudden, my mind was filled with having sex with Ren under a warm, balmy, tropical, starry night and they were happy thoughts.

I was confused because she was in an exclusive relationship with Luke at this point so idk, it just put me off with her character? hence, I’m 50/50 with her. I felt for her because of the things she had to endure, but I also didn’t understand the way her mind worked at times lol.

The one thing I was drawn to with this book tho (aside from Luke) was the found family between the Rock Chicks/Hot Bunch. They gave me that fun, entertaining family you would never be bored around with vibes and I actually thought most characters in this universe were interesting - especially my baby Rennn. <3

3.5 I need cookies Stars

Another KA buudy read with my girls at Buddies Books & Baubles

Vacillation that pretty much sums up my experience with this book. One minute I love Luke, the next I think he is a total over the top alpha jerk. One minute I love Ava and the next I’m shaking my head at her naiveté and methods of coping. But just as soon as either one of those thing happen I flip again any I’m totally on team Luke or Ava and I want them to get it figured out sooner rather than later.

But the thing I never vacillate on is that Kristen Ashley is a natural story teller. Yes some things are really over the top especially in this series. A few of my favorites even if they are really slightly over the top are:

✔ - A kidnapping, actually I think there were 4 kidnappings in this
That was when I was kidnapped. * * * * *
They weren’t good kidnappers. I knew this because I got away

✔- The heroine does something silly that puts her in even more danger. At least she wasn’t TSTL or anything but there is always the one time they should have listened to the alpha male but did their own thing anyway.

✔ - More than one hubba hubba chunk of burning love hot guy is interested in said heroine and it drives the other alpha male crazy. *snickers* (cuz Luke kinda deserves this after incidents in the precious two books) *shrugs*

✔ - Heroine Freak out that is hilarious.
“Thank God it’s you. Chips Ahoy or Nutter Butter?” I asked instead of saying hello.
Riley laughed in my ear. “Neither, where are you?”
“King Soopers, and I had a shit night. I need processed cookie-type food.”
“No shit night is worth processed cookie-type food,” Riley told me.

✔ - Hilarious side characters that might hinder more than they help but in a totally funny way.
“So we had a pool,” Shirleen carried on. “Everyone threw down money on when they thought Luke would nail you. Mace won five hundred dollars.” Ho-ly crap. “So,” she went on. “Did he nail you nail you or did you two just sleep?”
For some reason, I answered her unbelievably nosy question. “We just slept.”
“New pool!” she shouted.

✔ - A Alpha male who will not give up no matter how many silly things you do to push him away. It is never good for the heroine when they start listing things.
“The second part you gotta get, babe, is that I’m not lettin’ you go. I’m not lettin’ you push me away and I’m not giving up. I’m gonna keep working until I piece together what your Dad and those assholes tore from you. I’m gonna keep at you until you let me in. I’m not gonna stop until you tell me you’re mine, until it comes straight from your mouth,”

Luke was more Alpha Male than any of the others we have had to date. He pushed the limits a little far sometimes and even I thought it was a little too much. When Lee handcuffed Indy to the bed it was kinda cute but when Luke did something similar it really didn’t work out the same way and I was so angry at him. Still overall he was a good character and I enjoyed being involved in their love story. It took a while but I loved that they knew each other in childhood and reconnected romantically as adults.

There are just a few things that really bothered me.

Luke going just a little too macho man. Ava using the silent treatment as a punishment against Luke, it was so childish and even though he decided to think it was cute I was annoyed. I also get the Ava was a bit heavy most of her life so she wasn’t used to male attention but she had four different men interested in her at the same time and she seemed to naïve about the entire situation and did a few things that if Luke had done them I would have been livid. And last but not least, Luke was apparently seeing someone when Ava came back into his life. Apparently it wasn’t serious aka exclusive but he just dropped her like a hot potato without any remorse or anything. So apparently he was kinda a man whore and she was just his latest piece so no big deal. It was just a little too much. I get it he is a super macho man and needs to get laid all the time so of course he’d have a woman or two at all times just for that.

Overall none of these things were deal breakers for me and I really enjoyed how Ava and Luke’s story played out. There were a few really emotional scenes that totally got to me and even reminded me why I loved Lee so much. Another good addition to the Rock Chick gang.

P.S. I’m totally going to take a trip to Denver because I really want to find the Nightingale offices and or Fortnums.

5 Cookie Stars!!

Ava didn’t always look like she has now. She was a little chubby, wore glasses and had two bitchy older sisters that made her believe that she was ugly and nobody would ever want her.
So, even having a crush for Luke since she was 8 years old, she didn't think we would ever look at her, so she promised herself that she would never see him again until she was in her perfect form.
But in the meanwhile she had bad luck with guys and she also promised that she would never tangle herself with a man again.
That is, until she see Luke again.

Luke didn’t saw Ava for 5 years. She was one of the most important persons in his life but they somehow drifted apart after she reject all his phone-calls after his father’s funeral (well, she had her reasons! Read it!).
So when he finds her looking for him at his work, looking hot as hell and not even a bit resembling as the old Ava he knew, he knows he have to get her back. And preferentially try to get the old her in the progress.
And since she got herself in trouble (or weren’t the girls in this series ALWAYS in trouble) he have a lot of time do to that.

For some reason this was the story I was most anxious to read. And with good reason, it was definitely my favorite book in the series (so far). It was more emotional, more personal, more angsty and it was more intimate than the others.
Although Lee is still my favorite (I think!!), Luke gives him a good fight. He was so great ;)
And Ava, even with her insecurities (that I kind of understood) I really liked her too.
The rest… the Rock Chicks and the Hot Bunch, were awesome as ever! ;)

For the millionth time I tell you: If you haven’t start reading this yet, you are missing a hell of a series! : )

One life altering moment has Ava vowing that the next time she sets eyes on childhood friend Luke, he will see a different movement. See Ava although always beautiful, struggled with her weight and after overhearing some vicious comments about her and Luke she vowed that never again would it be embarrassing to be seen together. Now Luke, never cared how Ava looked, he thought she was beautiful inside and out.

Eight years later Ava has sought out Luke, who she heard was a private investigator needing his help at getting revenge when it comes to her best friends soon to be ex-husband, the cheating rat. It only takes one minute though as she walks through the door of the Nightingale offices to realize she is not ready to see Luke and tries a quick retreat, however Luke wants answers from Ava not to mention her in his bed.

Things are only heating up as Ava finds herself being sought after by four different men, including Luke. Not to mention she has been kidnapped and seems to be the center of havoc in all different directions. With the help of the Rock Chicks, Ava is thrown from one situation to the next but the only thing she continuously is running from is her feelings for Luke, but he plans to extract them from her in all sorts of creative manners.

I am torn between if Lee or Luke is my favorite, Luke is heart melting and swoon worthy. I loved this story it is a 50/50 on which one is my favorite.

**Reread I would say this is a 50/50 on which is my favorite. Luke is a man you go gaga over, intense, straight speaking, and head over heels for Ava, she just doesn't know it.

If you've read previous Rock Chick books, then you know what you are getting into with this one.

I'm still loving the series but I gotta admit, listening to these books back to back is making me less and less tolerant of the heroine's constant resistance to these hunky men. I love a good man chase woman story and this definitely provides it. I just think the women resisting goes on too long. less is more.

I really wanted to like Ava but she argued with Luke constantly. It got old. Real fast. It goes to show how much I love this group of people that I still gave this 4 stars despite having to deal with her character.

Luke's hitting on previous heroines in previous books came back to bite him in the butt. This is one case where I don't blame Ava at all for being upset when she found out. However, I loved Luke. I pretty much love all the men in this group and they are making this series very worth it.

The side characters continue to be a constant source of entertainment. While the heroines are getting on my nerves with the constant resistance, once they move on to a side character in the next book, I'm loving them as well.

I'm nervous for the next book. Mace has been one I've been looking forward too but he broke up with his heroine a year prior and I really hope it's for reasons that I can deal with. On to his book...

"And remember that time you sold a bag of oregano to Mitch and Josh Burk, telling them it was pot?"

"We needed money. There was a kiss tribute show coming up. They never figured it out, said it was the best weed they'd ever had."

3/5 stars

edit 21/03/17: I originally rated this book 3.5 stars but after reading four of the other books in this series I've had to bring this rating down. The main characters in this story did not live up to the standard I think this series has. Ava was frustrating and often petty, thinking only of herself.

I did enjoy this story although I'm getting a little frustrated with the main female leads in this series, they're all over the place and can't seem to set their minds on just one man. It was frustrating to see Ava continually string men along under the guise that she didn't know what she wanted and 'wasn't used to the attention'. Seriously, nobody can be that obtuse, even if they've never had much attention before.

If this only happened in one of the stories in this series, it wouldn't bother me but it's become a running theme. And one I do not enjoy. It takes love triangles to a whole new level when she's bouncing between four different guys, all the while pretending not to notice she sending off mixed signals.

I adore Luke, he's on of my favourites in the series (let's be honest, every one of the Hot Bunch are my favs lol) and the reason I still reread this book is for their history. I love that they had a childhood history where Luke was just as kickass as now, and stood up for Ava even when she wasn't a knockout gorgeous Rock Chick. When she was just little "fatty fatty four-eyes Ava", they still has something special.

The usual drama (see: kidnapping[s], shootings, mafia members and the works) became a little monotonous throughout this book, but I always go back for the SWEET Luke and Ava parts and Ava and Lee's friendship. It's my favourite thing that the hot guys all have a special relationship with one of the other Rock Chick girls—nothing romantic, just a close bond because of everything they go through.

4 stars – Chick lit/Contemporary Romance/Romantic Suspense

If I rated this based on the heroine it would get 1 star because Ava topped the annoying b*tchometer until around the 65% mark and even after that was still ungrateful and somewhat irritating. Without a doubt, yummalicious, handcuff wielding, uber alpha badass Luke Stark made and saved this book.

‘Nough said.

Peace Out and Rock On!

*****Edited from original rating/review*****

I bumped this from a somewhat lackluster 4 stars to a stronger, more solid 4+ after finishing Rock Chick Regret, loving the series, and eventually growing to like Ava. Besides, Luke Stark is one of the most badass, studtastic members of the Hot Bunch!

3 to 3 1/2 stars

I liked this book more than I thought I would and eventually fell in love with Luke and Ava's romance. However, the climax chapter right before the ending was flat-out ridiculous, dropping the rating down for me. There is no doubt this series is hit and miss for me. That being said, one thing is for certain, Kristen Ashley is one fabulous storyteller.

A buddy read with the KA addicts from BB&B

I love this series. Is it perfect - faaaaar from it, if you judge it by the typical literary parameters. It is flawed, the characters are flawed, the interactions between them are flawed, everything is flawed!!! There are so many things wrong with the way the bossy alpha males treat their insecure but still strong and fighting rock-and-roll loving women, that sometimes I ask myself what the heck am I reading and why do I keep on doing it... They are formulaic, over the top, crazy and very unlikely contemporary romances, brimming over the edge with sassy banter and macho grunts, a lot of shootings and many abductions.. . There is coffee drinking, pole dancing, gun toting, hot rod driving, a ton of shopping, and most of all, crazy mating rituals for alpha males and their challenging and wild females, who sometimes overdo the internal monologue.

I know it sounds cacophonous, maybe a bit tedious, even somewhat unreadable... And maybe, some of you would absolutely hate these series, possibly even the author and her writing. As I have said before, it is not literature, people!!! However, if you have already tasted some of KA's fair, and if what she serves up pleases your pallet, well then, this is the series for you!!! Because what she has in spades is the incredible ability to craft a narrative in the most entertaining way possible with a simple language and a G-d given talent for storytelling!!! And those of us who like to sit on her table and sample of her offerings as much as we can, we seem to turn a bit unreasonable when it comes to objectivity about her works. We keep coming back for more, and more, and more....

This book finally fond a worthy love interest for the hot and mysterious Luke S. from Nightingale Investigations, a.k.a. Hot Bunch Boys, in the person of Ava, a girls who has known him since she was 8 and he 12, and has been crushing on him ever since. She has all the attributes a new Rock Chick needs to fit in - brains, attitude, a challenging personality, the propensity to get in mortal danger and be a magnet for trouble. Things happen which give the perfect opportunity for Luke to protect and claim her, and as part as how these things go, she battles him kinking and screaming to the bitter end... From the first moment they lay eyes on each-other all of us know what will be the end result, but it sure is a fun ride getting to the inevitable end.

As always, the ensemble of secondary characters is what makes this book. We know them, we love them and we keep on falling deeper and deeper for them. I do not even want to imagine a Rock Chick book without Tex, Duke or Daisy!!! *shudders* We need our doze of crazy!

I am once again grateful for my buddy reading addicts and am looking forward to our next read together!!! Thank you and may all have many books and fun times reading!

Recently re-read this and YIKES! Totally loved it better the second go round - so much that I amped up my rating from a straight 4 stars to 4.5 with a lean more towards 5 (in GR standards).

Ava was much more easier to understand this go round. And I had TOTALLY forgotten about all of the amazing and awesome shit that happens in this story. Crazy exciting.

4.5 stars.

The Rock Chick series has proven itself as a bunch of cute and fun stories with hot alpha heroes and sassy heroines but I do feel they kind of follow a similar "formula". Lots of H/h chemistry and fireworks in the beginning; the h being crazy in love with the H and vice versa; then she pushes him away (sigh) because I don't know, he's too amazing?; cue misunderstanding or some other random silly behaviour (sigh); then it gets to about 65% when the h gives in and we finally get to see some awesome KA character/story development.

I did love Luke and Ava in this and as long as I didn't let the RC formula affect me too much, Revenge was an exciting, fun romp of a story.

Luke was a freaking overload of hotness. If ever I wished I could "watch" a KA book like a movie, now was the time. When Luke found out that Ava had turned up at the Nightingale offices and then stormed in with his hotness and his kickass mustache, I quivered! I could TOTALLY envision the sinfully hot Luke with stormy features, body coiled tight, darkening the entrance to the office and the air being thick with intense sexual energy. *swoon* Then he just became more amazing as the story went on.

Ava touched me from the very beginning with the fact that she had been a chubby adolescent, turning into an overweight adult who decides to take control of her life and get fit and healthy (and amazingly smokin' hot along the way). As RC heroine standards go, Ava had occasional snark in the beginning but other than that she was a pretty kickass, sensible kinda gal.

I loved Luke and Ava's history, I loved that Luke decreed that Ava had been his since they first met as kids. I even loved that in the story she had 4 guys panting after her at once, when she had never been the type of girl who'd received that kind of attention before. This affected me on a personal level because I was that girl too and have only just recently taken control of my life in the same way that Ava had.

This was fabulous and had me by my heart and soul all the way through. I love Luke and Ava forever!!!!

Even though I have read this book more than once, I just love it. Love Ava. Really love Luke. Love the Rock Chicks and the Hot Bunch. Can't get enough of them.

Luke and Ava both deserve love and happiness. They were neighbors as kids and Ava always had a crush on Luke. After many years of being off on their own, they come together and Luke decides to quit messing around. Ava fights it (of course) but he's an alpha male so no really doesn't mean anything to him.

I just love these two together.

This is about my 3rd time reading this book and why I never wrote a review for this book (probably because was antsy to read the next book in the series) and why, why, why in the world I gave it 4 stars instead of 5?!?! So, I decided to right a terrible wrong and ensure that justice lives on... I bumped up my rating from 4 stars to 5. Granted it is not my all time favorite Rock Chick book, but it is 4th (right after Rock Chick Regret, Rock Chick Redemption and Rock Chick Rescue - in that order), but it is an absolute gem.

Looking at all the previous Hot Bunch Guys, Luke is the one with the dirtiest mouth and the things he says to Ava makes my legs feel like jello. I guess the reason I probably gave it the lower rating at first was because in the past books Luke tries to get with Roxie and then he really tries to get with Jules. I guess I kinda wanted him to know that he had always wanted Ava. I mean he is a PI and Ava has lived in Denver most of her life so why did he never try to get in touch with her if she were that important to him? I had always though of Luke as giving out his feelings so easily to the other Rock Chick girls in the previous books that I already had a preconceived notion about him that didn't put him in a good light for me. However, after reading this book for the 3rd time I already knew where he was coming from that it shifted my paradigm (yes, I also read Franklin Covey!). I also realized that karma was biting Luke in the ass for this because not only did his best friend from his childhood grow up to be hot, but that she also had a bunch of other hot guys after her (Ren, Riley, Dom) and it made Luke realize that the other women were nothing compared to Ava. When I finally came to this conclusion that was when I really began to LOVE this book and appreciate it more. It took me the 3rd time reading it, but I FINALLY got it.

I like that Ava has more of a bitchy attitude than the previous Rock Chicks, though not in a really bitchy way, but in an adorable, lie-to-Luke's-face, throw him off track kinda way. And I absolutely love that Luke calls Ava out on her bitchiness and lies, and instead of getting angry and frustrated he actually loves that she does this. I think that Ava is unique to all the other Rock Chicks in that she has great dental hygiene, I mean, come on she always brushes her teeth! I personally think it is kinda gross to be kissing with morning breath and lots of romance books tend to gloss of over it, but realistically it is gross! I also think it is awesome that Ava wears contacts and uses her clunky glasses at home it makes her seem more human. All the other previous Rock Chicks all seem to jump out of bed looking gorgeous.

I love this book. It will definitely be one of my go-to re-read books when I am in a book slump and just want something entertaining to read.

Been waiting a while to get to Luke’s story and his Rock Chick as I have a little crush on him.

His Rock Chick is Ava. They grew up across the street from each other and she has been in love with him since she was 8. Ava grew up as an ugly duckling with 2 older and, at least in her mind, more beautiful sisters. Ava considers herself fat and wears thick glasses due to bad eyesight. Her sisters’ beauty only runs skin deep, however, as they cruel to Ava and makes her feel bad about herself the whole time she is growing up.

Luke has always liked Ava and, when he went home for his father’s funeral, was happy to see her and said he would call and they would hook up. He did call but Ava ignored his calls due to the fact that she’d overheard her sister’s catty remarks about how fat she looked when she was hugging Luke at the burial. Ava decides this is a life-changing moment and decides to get in shape, lose weight and get contacts which she does successfully and now she’s a swan. She has a few disastrous relationships in the years that follow including one with a guy called Noah who stole her money and her jewellery left to her by her favourite aunt. She’s now sworn off men forever and vowed fidelity to a pair of vibrators.

It’s now 8 years later and Ava decides to go to Luke in his capacity as a PI to investigate her best friend Sissy’s philandering husband who has been coming on strong to Ava and Sissy needs the dirt to divorce him. She walks into Nightingale Investigations and Luke doesn’t even recognise her she’s changed so much. He’s actually not happy with the change – she may be a knockout but he thinks she’s become hard and cold and a bit of a bitch over the years and vows to search for the Ava he once knew, believing that she’s in there, buried under the heartache. She chickens out of actually asking him for help and decides to go it alone. Her first foray into sneaky investigations ends in disaster with Luke catching her in Sissy’s house as it explodes in gunfire – a drive-by sending message to Dom

Ava gets herself into a whole heap of trouble and Luke decides she is worth the effort and wants to protect her. We have the now familiar plot of the Rock Chick thinking herself not good enough for her guy and him coming on very strong and bashing his head against a wall trying to convince her they are good together. The rest of the Rock Chicks and the Hot Bunch all start laying bets on when the consummation will take place – and Ava and Luke have several hilarious moments of coitus interruptus before they finally get their act together.

The real danger in the book to Ava comes out of nowhere and I was really shocked to see who it was and what he did – totally unexpected with what had gone before.

There are some pretty hilarious moments in this one with Smithie getting trapped up a tree by a pair of rottweilers and Tod planning a vibrator burial ceremony to mention just a couple and it’s great to see all the regulars getting in on the action and a hint at Mace and Stella who are up next in Rock Chick Reckoning.

I did enjoy this but not quite as much the books that came before – maybe Ava was a little bit too annoying with her constant inner monologue with Good Ava and Bad Ava and she was a bit of a bitch to Luke sometimes who I adore. Then perhaps no one was going to be good enough for him as far as I was concerned. It ends with a wedding and happy news for one of the couples from the previous books.

4 star romantic suspense.

This is one of the few KA books I still enjoy.

Back when I was maybe 15 or 16, I LOVED the Rock Chick series. Even then I did cringe at the heroines' immaturity, the plentiful OW drama, and the heroes' ridiculously macho-man language, but the books always delivered my main requirement: a believable romance with heroes who demonstrate their attachment to the heroine.

Rock Chick Revenge epitomises that.

28-year-old Ava Barlow used to be seriously overweight. She isn't any more, but she's still spent the last 5 years avoiding 32-year-old Lucas Stark, her childhood friend and lifelong crush. She can't really bear to see him again and be reminded of who she used to be, even though that means she's ghosted him.

But now her best friend Sissy needs help divorcing a mafia man and Luke - as the employee of a bounty hunting/mercenary type agency - is the best man for the job. When Ava goes to see him, she quickly realises two things: one, he's still mad she ghosted him. Two, the chemistry between them is now off the charts. Cue Luke going about his pursuit of Ava with single-minded intensity, which is always the best part of a KA book.

This book does have Ugly Duckling vibes, and normally I hate that with the fire of a thousand suns. Like, if a hero isn't into the heroine when she's fat and then does a 180 once she's thin, it's not a pleasant read. But Luke isn't really like that. It's made very clear that he's always felt strong affection for Ava - even as an angry teenager, he treats her with kindness - and I genuinely feel like her personality is as important to him as her looks, because so much is made of their foundation as childhood friends.

The requisite OW drama... hmm. So Luke featured as the requisite OM in the earlier Rock Chick books, and I can't stand reading about books where the longtime OM finally becomes the hero. It can feel like his heroine is second place, you know? However, I tried to ignore that here because ultimately, the only reason Ava and Luke didn't meet for 5 years is because she ghosted him. He called her multiple times and she never replied. I really feel like if she had replied earlier, they might even have been in a relationship already by the time the entire series starts. The fact that he moved onto to try and start relationships with other people is okay in that context, since he'd tried to contact her and she'd abandoned him. (I do wish the Jules stuff had been addressed a bit more though).

Luke's also my favourite Rock Chick hero for multiple reasons. First off, he's actually funny, in a quietly sarcastic kind of way. Secondly, he makes it super apparent how much his emotions are engaged with Ava. Thirdly... he actually makes me believe moustaches can be hot on the right person.

So while I've overall outgrown KA, Ava and Luke is one story I definitely haven't outgrown.
