Gosho Aoyama (青山剛昌) is a Japanese manga artist. He is best known as the creator of the manga series Detective Conan (known in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom as Case Closed).
Aoyama made his debut as a manga artist with the work Chotto Matte which was published in the weekly magazine Shōnen Sunday on winter of 1987. Shortly after that, another work by Aoyama, Magic Kaito, was published on the same magazine.
This volume had a little bit of everything to satisfy my Case Closed craving until the next book comes out. Some Kaito Kid, some interrupted camping with Dr. Agasa, some code cracking, some Rachel kicking butt, some setup for a character to either be a Black Organization operative or a gigantic red herring... I could go on. Definitely worth the wait!
highlight of this volume: scar-faced officer + a lead to AKAI-KUN??
1. this volume we have the case of Centipede AND HEIJI + KAZUHA are there!!!
2. plot-twist the whole case; the wife of nonoubo has teamed up with the villagers to kill all those ppl tch tch (the fight was amazing) BUt ISNT THAT SCAR-FACE DETECTIVE IS HELLA HANDSOME !!!
3. i wanna see Yamanato Kansuke (scar-face handsome) & Torada Yui solving a case ONE DAY T^T!!!
4. the next case is more info about Eisuke, refusing witness protection program bla bla bla but when he said he will confess to RAN-CHAN!!! i was like SHINCHI WHERE R U??? and yeah
5. next case is the detective boys but we have something extra here, Okiya Subaru guy is suspicious so gonna bookmark his face in my mind, and why is conan letting him stay at shinchi(his) house?
6. also the case about burning down Kaito's house; thank god no one died
all in all; WAIT IS OKIYA SUBARU IS AKAI-KUN???????
The Kaito Kid kicks off the latest volume of Case Closed. It is a fun story to kick off a volume that appears to be filled with everything that makes this series intriguing. Indeed there is something for everyone in this volume. The next story stars the Junior Detectives and a case of a accident (or so it appears) of a rich man when it actually was something else. I will say no more and leave the reveal to you as you read this story. Next up Rachel Moore takes center stage in this story about a kidnapped individual. The final story is at such an early stage, I think it should have been kept for the next volume, but I understand page count is important to readers and people don't want to feel ripped off. It is about an innocent man being framed for murder. That said, the rest of the story that starts at the end of this volume is bound to be explained in the next exciting volume of Case Closed.
Another Conan vs Kaito Kid story. I really like those. Plus a story featuring the newer character, Subaru Okyia, whom Conan has set up to live temporarily in Sinichi's home to keep an eye on him because he seems suspicious and Haibara thinks he works for the Black Organization. Both Subaru and Conan solve a mystery featuring paper airplanes, a secret competition neither knows about (as organized by Ran and Sonoko). Also a creepy story of a seemingly accidental car explosion in the garage of a creepy home that predictably is not accidental. Really good volume.
Every edition with Kaito Kid is a good edition. In this one he seems to teleport. Next the detective boys face a weird fire accident. It is followed by a case in which we find out a little bit about Subaru and his detective skills when it comes to a mysterious code. Lastly Azusa's brother is the suspect of the murder of his boss. Overall a good read.
General Synopsis: As mentioned above, I am going to write a proper review for this soon, but I have a few books ahead of this one in the queue, so I cannot stop reading DC NOW! That's sacrilege. I have decided to read all the chapters available up to now (we are almost to 1000!) As you can see, I am totally fangirling over here and I don't care, because this is one of my favorite manga series, ever! But all of this aside, there are a few things I wanted to list so I don't need to go back and look everything up when I do finally sit down and write my fangirl review. ✌🏻
DO NOT click on the spoiler link if you don't want to read all the cases in this volume, because it will ruin it for you. On the other hand, if you're a fan like me or are looking for a certain case (and please note, these are how I have set the cases), etc. click away, that's why it's there.
Another spoiler link, so don't click if you don't want to ruin this manga. I am going to include the characters introduced or as the series continues are in this volume. Personally, I think us DC fans love certain characters more than other (yes, Heiji, I mean you!), so sometimes when we are re-reading this series (like all the time!) you might wish to start at a specific case or start when a certain character is involved.
Characters in this volume:
Personal Opinion: #1, I never call this CASE CLOSED. If you do, you're not a true fan of this series, so don't even bother reading my review or my personal opinions. I'm sorry if I offend you, but you offended me first by telling me you want to read CASE CLOSED or you just love Jimmy.
#2, as you can tell by #1, I read this online. I would never waste my money buying a manga series in english that cannot get the name correct and mess up the main characters to make it appear more "ENGLISH." I am so happy I don't run a blog and this isn't a review on Sailor Moon, #1, because I have a huge soap box tirade against DiC. I also don't think there is anything against reading something online. Comics, which is what manga are, are meant to be read and shared and sometimes paying over $10 is too much in my opinion. Plus, I read the newest chapters as soon as they are released from Japan, because I would never miss a release of DC. So this is my personal shout out to you translators from me, Thank You!
Every time I get a new volume of this series, I'm reminded why I like it so much. And it really just makes me want to catch up on the anime or manga, which I'm so behind on both of.
At the start of the volume, we're in a case about the Moonlight Magician, who I believe is a thief that Conan has run into several times before. He's just as smart as Conan, and while Conan seems to figure out his tricks, he still hasn't quite won their competition. I like the Moonlight Magician quite a lot, though. He challenges Conan more than most people.
Next there's a case about this snobby guy who dies when his car explodes. This goes on for a couple of chapters, and it's obvious from early on who it is. There's this other kid here, though, Anita, who I don't remember but is I guess staying with Doctor Asegawa, and she seems smart for her age but she dislikes Conan.
Before the cliffhanger, there's a short mystery about these paper airplanes with Morse code on them. Conan, as Jimmy, goes against this guy staying in Jimmy's house. Mostly, I liked seeing how Conan worked to make sure that Rachel was safe, and how worked up he got. They're so cute.
While I do quite love this series, no matter how cheesy it is, I do wish that Conan would turn back into Jimmy. I understand that that's the main tension and it's so played up that they would want to end the series with it. But I would like to see mysteries with Jimmy as the main character, and see his relationship with Rachel. I'm a fan of them.
A review copy was provided by the publisher, VIZ Media, for an honest review. Thank you so, so much!
THE PHANTOM THIEF’S GRAND ILLUSION Jirokichi Suzuki sets an elaborate trap to capture Kaitou Kid, using the priceless jewel-embedded Purple Nail as bait. With towering nets blocking his escape, Kid seemingly vanishes in a puff of smoke, only to reappear moments later, claiming one of the heels is fake. Challenging Conan, he promises to return the next night to steal the real one, using the same trick that defies the laws of magic. Can Conan unravel Kid’s illusion before he vanishes once more?
THE DEADLY MOUNTAIN TRAP A camping trip turns into a murder investigation when the Detective Boys stumble upon a fiery explosion in the mountains. The victim’s fiancée insists it was an accident caused by a cigarette igniting gasoline fumes, but Conan senses deception. As he picks apart her inconsistencies, he uncovers a calculated murder hidden beneath the guise of a tragic accident.
PAPER PLANES AND A SILENT CRY FOR HELP Strange paper planes marked with cryptic symbols flutter across the city, drawing the attention of Ran, Sonoko, and Subaru. A race begins between Subaru and Conan to decode their meaning, and both reach the same chilling conclusion—someone is sending an SOS from a place without phone reception. Their suspicions lead them to a recent kidnapping case, where they realize the missing businessman has been desperately trying to signal for rescue.
Gerak-gerik mencurigakan.Kemungkinan besar salah satu anggota organisasi berjubah hitam (Bourbon).
