Three of the New York Times bestselling Morganville Vampire novels-in one bloodthirsty volume.
In Morganville, vampires and humans have learnt to coexist in (relatively) bloodless harmony. That is until Bishop arrives, a master vampire determines to abolish order, revive the forces of the evil dead and let chaos rule.
College student Claire Danvers and her friends are the only ones who stand in his way. Defending their town against evil forces natural and unnatural, Claire and her friends must forge alliances with old enemies and conquer massive odds . . . or see Morganville and its inhabitants obliterated for good.
The Morganville omnibus editions published by Allison & Busby are gorgeous. They sent over volume 2, which features books 4-6 (Feast of Fools, Lord of Misrule, and Carpe Corpus), to me for review and I pretty much fell in love with it. The cover is fairly similar to the other UK editions of Morganville but the book's appearance is more than that. The blue coloured page edges look fantastic with the blue foil decoration on the cover, and it's no secret that I have a thing for coloured page edges, it also includes a ribbon and when you remove the jacket, there is also printed foiling on the hardback cloth. I love it.
Feast of Fools
Feast of Fools is my favourite Morganville book so far, definitely. I totally have a thing for masked balls. Rachel Caine's wit is as strong as ever and so much happened. I know a fair few of you aren't keen on stories with too many different storylines being covered simultaneously due to the confusion it can cause but I personally find this series so easy to follow. It keeps the plot constantly moving forward and varied so that it's never boring.
In Feast of Fools we meet Mr. Bishop, Amelie's oppressive father. We know he's something big and bad because the vampires are all afraid of him, to the point that even Amelie and Oliver team up together. Claire becomes involved in the top secret vampire stuff yet the people around her still treat her like a kid, including Shane, her boyfriend, who won't go past kissing. It's very nice but something about that situation doesn't feel quite right, they're both teenagers! He is very sweet though, you do pretty much adore him.
The entire novel all just feels as though it's building up to something, especially when everybody but Claire seem to be invited to this feast, and every one of them invited by a vampire.
Lord of Misrule
Lord of Misrule is basically a big battle preparation between the two sides, Amelie's and Bishop's, with some of the humans tired of being the pawns and taking up their own little rebellions. There's an exciting build up and more and more of the vampires inner secrets are revealed, finally. I never cease to be amazed how amongst this vast array of characters, none of them come across as being flat. Everybody has a story to tell and that really brings the series to life. It's pretty impressive. There is a lot of chaos and a pretty huge ending.
Carpe Corpus
Carpe Corpus was a little darker than the previous Morganville novels and a little bit depressing to start with, what with the characters so divided and Claire feeling so lost. I struggled with it for a bit but thankfully it does pick up when it is revealed that not all is exactly as it seems and I was extremely glad I kept at it. The novel focuses a lot on coming back from the disaster of the past 2 novels and Claire moves in the social pecking order from being the kid in way over her head to the "enemy", or a line to Bishop. This one's ending was rounded off quite nicely and was perhaps the smallest cliffhanger so far.
Overall, the second Morganville omnibus is definitely worth getting your hands on. Not only is it pretty with its' coloured page edges and attached ribbon, but it's a good chunk of Morganville.
"Dear Dork, it read, We found trash in the machines and threw it down the chute. If you want it, dive for it."
The best book I've read. It has a vampire diaries kinda vibe but without the cheesy teenage romance. I would definitely recommend to anyone interested in a vampire series
Wow what books really enjoyed loved Michael Could not put these down , must go to next series You become part of the book so exciting Hoping you enjoy as much as I have
I loved these books, I read them as they all came out back in 2011, you have to love hate Murnin. also, you no you wan't vampy bunny slippers. good chars, good world building.
This is a volume that contain 3 books from the series from 4-6 : "Feast of Fools" , "Lord of Misrule" , "Carpe Corpus"...i have reread this book when i found it in a library.
'Feast Of Fools' in this book Claire and her friends find out that Amelie is not the oldest vampire, Bishop is her father, which had caned into Morganville to get revenge on his daughter for stealing his book. He takes Claire and her friends under his control, messing with their heads.Everyone realizes that Bishop can be very dangerous when Amelie and Olive work together to save Morganville (i didn't see that coming. However this series how we know from the previous books is about the love between Claire and Shane, which it get a lot more steamer(THEY Both STOP WHY). However in this book Claire is jealous because one of Bishop vampire pet Ysandre wants Shane and she shows that right in Claires face (Shane try to escape but the vampire b. uses her powers to overwhelm him and to obey her with no will).
This is an incredible book will keep you reading from the beginning to the end whiteout wanting to sleep. There are so many things happening that will not even thing about.
"Lord of Misrule" in this book Claire has to obey Bishop or everyone she cares about dies. Vampires start walking during daylight, some of them die, and they can't find an explanation for it. Now Claire doesn't know in who to trust because everyone is turning against her. *spoilers alert* When Claire follows Myrnin with Michael to go save Amelie well it turns out it was a trap by Myrnin for Bishop to get to Claire and capture Michael(all the vampires they were like robots). To be honest i do not remember if is in this book or Cape Corpus but *spoilers* Bishop bites Claire. So many ups and down it is amazing how plot is thought. Just love this book.
"Cape Corpus" is full of action, so many thing happening.Shane's father get what he hated the most in his life (vampires) with no choice but to work with them. *spoilers* Now something to make everyone happy Claire and Shane finally given in to their "needs" and love each other to the fullest (so happy, had to read few time couldn't believe it finally happen). The final battle between Amelie and Bishop it will be at the 'costume party' where Bishop had invited the hall town. Vampires came in each with a human pet. Well at least we find out who is on what side. Even Claire parents were invited so she can be a "good girl" for Bishop.
This volume is just amazing is so full of surprises, action and less love the only parts is just once with Shane and Claire.
Ah, Morganville. Probably one of the best young adult vampire series out there.
Don’t get me wrong, it isn’t perfect. There are many things I disliked about this series, yet when I compare it to other books in this category it ranks rather high. Throughout the series, we have a continuous story and individual book stories to keep you engaged, without things growing repetitive.
If you’re into young adult vampire stories then I suggest you give this series a go.
Started out ok, then drove me mad! Bad plots and plenty of places where I thought, I could plan this better, but then the last book of the 3 saved it with a lot of character development. Still I'll be taking a break from Morganville Vamps till I feel up to finishing the series again
