fantastic style book that came out in 1985 and showcased some of the wild, unique, punk and new wave styles that was sweeping across the country. A must for any fashion/design library.
Ultra-inspiring paperback profiling New York City fringe fashion in the 1980s, when fashion shows were weird and impromptu and people put more effort into their hair. Watch 1983's Liquid Sky for the depressing sci-fi representation about these sorts of fashion shows, and then read this book for interviews featuring real independent fashion designers, boutique owners, street punks, goths, etc. The way this is written is kind of like reading a goofy travel guide, but don't let it get to you. If you're looking for fashion/costume design inspiration, if you want to learn how to get your hair huge sans aqua-net, or if you want to be bummed out by how much cooler some of the boutiques in St. Marks seem like they used to be, check it out.
