Cody and the Hermit

Dear Author,
So, I totally have a thing for Cowboys... and I found this picture:

How does one get tied up like this by a hunky cowboy?

Photo Description: In sunlit black and white, two dark-haired men play out a scene of restraint. One, naked and lightly muscled, lies face-down on a wooden frame, hands roped high, ankles spread and bound. At his left ankle, the other man kneels, tightening ropes. He wears cuffed jeans, boots, holster and Stetson but his muscled upper body is bare.]

This story was written as a part of the M/M Romance Group's "Hot Summer Days" event. Group members were asked to write a story prompt inspired by a photo of their choice. Authors of the group selected a photo and prompt that spoke to them and wrote a short story.

I am a reader first. All of my life I've read some of the best fiction and it's been a supreme source of joy for me. I love to read and it has shaped so many aspects of who I am today.

In the daylight, I am an Adult Reference Librarian. I am surrounded by the best books day in and day out and I spend a lot of my time referring people to new and interesting works of fiction.

In the moonlight, I am a writer. Over the last decade+, I have written lots of fiction online as various personas. Some of my online monikers have been JD Christopher, Virtual Insanity, and the Mad Slasher to name a few prominent ones.

Good writing in this story. I got a feel for the characters, well mostly Cody, but a bit of Kenny too. I couldn't quite get on board that he <spoiler> stayed away from Cody for that long, even if he was shy</spoiler>. I liked how the picture prompt was included. Didn't like the fade to black after their kiss. I would have loved to have more of their naughty business, but it was good for a short story.

I liked the story overall but I would have liked to see more of them together since it is basically Kenny being a jerkface then them talking about getting together then it skips ahead five month for the sex scene inspired by the photo

There was a beginning and an end...but what happened to the middle? I didn't feel anything for these guys.

Nothing quite like the green-eyed monster to break someone out of their holding pattern or show their possessiveness! I'm glad Kenny had that little extra push to finally reveal his true self to Cody:) Perfect story for a very interesting picture indeed. Loved these cowboys!

Sweet with an authentic western feel to it. But it was Cody who nudged the story from three to four stars for me. It was a delight to meet him and I cheered for his HEA.

This one is short but good. I loved Cody, the nice guy everyone loves, and how after all the years of having a crush on Kenny, he finally has a chance to be with him (of course it happens after Cody is practically rejected by Kenny and decides to move on).

And of course I loved Kenny even more. Kenny the big, bad hermit that liked Cody all this time too but thought he wasn't enough for him and tried to keep Cody aways from him and his kinks.

Luckily for us, or me, it took a dose of jealousy to make Kenny man up and declare his love. And, surprise, surprise, the thing Kenny was afraid of, to want to be rough and play it hard with Cody, was something out lovely Cody wanted all along too.

I thought this was an okay short. No character development really. Not one of my favorite photos of the series either.

Don't Read in the Closet is a collection of short stories published for free for members of the M/M Romance Group. The best part of this series of shorts is that they were based on a photo and a reader request for a story. Here is the photo and reader request that inspired this story (warning contains M/M situation and non-graphic nudity):

I liked the beginning, but felt bad for sweet Cody and was happy to see him trying to move on and actaully standing up to Kenny for a few minutes. Kenny was such a jackass. Then, they finally agree they like the same things, but I felt there needed to be more going on in this part. It happened too fast. There were a few typos, but the overall writing was well done. I wish there was more to the story before the ending scene.

I really liked this but like another reviewer mentioned, I would have liked to have seen a bit of Cody and Kenny together before it jumped to 5 months later. Kenny is a complete jerk then he has a quick conversation with Cody and then it jumps ahead.

Overall a really good story though.

Nice short story about being embarrassed about who you are (or what you like) and then getting the hell over it to be happy. :-)
