Kelley Armstrong has been telling stories since before she could write. Her earliest written efforts were disastrous. If asked for a story about girls and dolls, hers would invariably feature undead girls and evil dolls, much to her teachers' dismay. All efforts to make her produce "normal" stories failed.
Today, she continues to spin tales of ghosts and demons and werewolves, while safely locked away in her basement writing dungeon. She's the author of the NYT-bestselling "Women of the Otherworld" paranormal suspense series and "Darkest Powers" young adult urban fantasy trilogy, as well as the Nadia Stafford crime series. Armstrong lives in southwestern Ontario with her husband, kids and far too many pets.
Not only is Kelly Armstrong a solid and fantastic writer who pays attention to detail, but she is also a great example of creating lifelike characters that the reader can relate to. Each book in her Women of the Otherworld series is about a different woman in the created world, all with intercepting lives; the first book, Bitten, takes us into the life of Elena Michaels, the only female werewolf in the present existence. Armstrong writes her characters with such detail that the reader can’t help but relate to what the book’s character is feeling, even if they are something other than strictly human. As a student writer, I look to Armstrong as a strong example of creating authentic and realistic characters in genre fiction.
Brilliant!! I love discovering these series when there's already been a few books out cos you get so involved! The downside is having to wait for the next one when you've caught up.
Reading Bitten was enough to tell me Kelley Armstrong was an author I’d become obsessed with. Her Women of the Otherworld series is wonderful, addictive in every way possible. Each story seems to get stronger, each new addition to the series taking things to new heights, and I cannot get enough of the stories.
If you’re a fan of paranormal romance and have yet to pick up the Women of the Otherworld series, I certainly suggest you do. It has everything you expect from the genre, and will leave you wanting more. Without a doubt, these books are more than worth the read for any fan of the genre.
Note: you do need to read the books in order, so make sure you go and start with Bitten.
I happen to stumble across this series a few years back. Each book is captivating and leaves you hungry for more. The details are great and the characters assume a life of their own. I'm about to start the final book in the series and am sad to see it coming to an end. Loving her style I opted to read some of her other series and I found them to be just as good and the references to women if the otherworld series is often and leaves the reader with that feeling that we may know something that the characters still have to figure out first....
I have read the Bitten and Stolen, but am still considering if I should read Dime Store Magic, or Industrial Magic. The first two were very well written and thought out. I loved them, because Kelly Armstrong wrote Bitten like it was real. When I read it, I could literally imagine everything.
A must read, I stumbled on these books several years ago. This is an adult version of the other world vampires, witches and werewolves oh my! There is so much more to this collection not just these four books and Kelley is a fantastic writer.
I love most of Kelley's books, but sometimes, the main characters, for no reason have to deal with life and death situations. Then I wonder, where the heck is her partner? Wasn't he supposed to be right behind? The author never explains it. In other words, a little sloppy.
Very entertaining! Love her stories - very imaginative and full of twists & turns. I especially love that she's from Ontario Canada. Inspiring to see a homegrown writer succeed on the big stage.
