I read these books with my 10yr old twin brothers, we read the series consecutively, I offer a parental review, hopefully it will give some insight for selecting literature for child suitability.

An entertaining series is often ruined by so much violence and sexual content. I personally found the books excessive for 10 year olds, but my brothers loved them. The content did not stop me reading them with the boys.

The first three books were acceptable, but as the rest of the series moves forward they grow dark and edgy fast. Alex struggles with anger and depression. Points parents should know so they can make informed decisions. Images and experiences become increasingly violent. Eagle Strike, the 4th book, is very violent. Additionally, it references pornography and prostitution in the red-light district of Amsterdam. A prostitute winks at Alex as he rushes past. I guess your child could read the first 2, maybe 3 without too much fuss, but why start when you can't finish? I chose to continue, well the boys were so into them, I didn’t want to disappoint! I’m not sure my mother would have. There are some minor words used like damn and hell, kids hear worse on the playground on a daily basis.

My brothers raved over the books, they were completely absorbed, and loved Alex’s life! They recommended them to all of their friends. They thoroughly enjoyed the plots, twists, and turns, and how quickly plots snuck up on them.

There is humour, and jokes, I found myself laughing with the boys quite often. The books are inspired in places. They have been tried and tested, and get a big thumbs up from two 10 year old boys. That is who they are aimed at so, seeing the eagerness and complete joy of reading I have to give a 4/5 but the twins would give a 5/5. It’s up to you!

The Alex Rider series genre is a Spy Fiction, Thriller (Action, Adventure).

Alex is a 14 year old kid whose uncle was shot when he was driving home from work. Alex found out that his uncle was not only a spy, but MI6’s best agent. Alex decides to join the MI6 as well because he wants to find the assassin who killed his uncle. He goes around the world killing bad people that are going to do stuff like explode the world.

This a a series that is still being made today. Someone that would like these books would be someone that likes fighting and always liking to be at the edge of their seat waiting to come back to the book for another great adventure. I liked the book because it kept me at the edge of my seat for every book, it had so much details to keep me on the edge waiting for something else to happen.

ALEX RIDER WAS MY CHILDHOOD. Really. I was first introduced to him when I was 8 - its been almost 10 years and I've literally grown up with him (though he remains the same age at 14/15). When I was younger I idolised him, when I neared him in age he became more of a literary crush, and now he's just like my younger brother :) Seriously, though, Alex is amazing. He's incredibly smart and talented and Anthony Horowitz brings that out with his great writing - the humour is sometimes on the dry side but never overdone.
Alex Rider was what got 8-year-old me interested in espionage and guns. Weirdly enough I was never scarred by the violence (there was plenty of it) and just found the gruesome murders (read: drowning in money, being sucked into a jet engine, being absorbed into a pit of salt etc etc) entertaining.
If I were ever to suggest an improvement to the series perhaps it would be to give readers more insight into Alex - the entire series is written entirely in 3rd person and Alex is so closed off that we get little to no personal insight, so I felt that Alex as a character could have been developed more. But on second thought maybe thats the beauty of it: that we'll never fully get to know Alex and he'll forever remain a mystery to us. After all, as a series premised almost entirely on the world of spying and intelligence, it's all about secrecy.

These books were great, and 14-year-old me really enjoyed them. I'm 23 now and the books haven't really grown with me. All I want to do is complete the series, but it's gotten so repetitive this guy is just trying to milk the series for all the money he can get out of it.

This is a great book I like how the alast book in the series is told in a different perspective by yassen gregorovitch instead of by alex rider.
Also I like how he is only 14 but he goes on 9 life threatening adventures, but I don't think that the rock trap should have been tiggered by the shark and not by alex and also if it killed the shark then how did he get out of the tunnel wouldn't it be blocked by the body and by the staliamites and stalagtites that were sticking out of the body of the great white.
even though that didn't make sense I still lovwe this book series and suggest that you read it. this is a mystery/action adventure book.

Overall, I really enjoyed this series. The books do get somewhat repetitive towards the end, but each one was a fun adventure.
