A fun book. There is no story here. Another book my nephew asked for. This has pictures and a list of things to find in each pictures.

I have seen better I spy books too. It does have a Thanksgiving theme.

My biggest problem with the book was that I expected a thanksgiving themed book and it had nothing to do with Thanksgiving at all. It was a total mislead. There was a wooden object with a turkey stamp on it, not what I would call Thanksgiving, and the illustrator seemed to think that by putting an autumn tree drawing, a pumpkin toy and a tiny apple pie object that that magically made it Thanksgiving. This was just a regular old I Spy book that didn't get one into the Thanksgiving spirit at all.

There were only 2 pages that i liked, the outdoor scene with the little pool and the wooden sign for Old Log Bridge, Picnic Rock and Swimming hole, and the one inside the shed looking out onto a lighthouse, with the shape of a cat carved out of the wall. The rest of the scenes I didn't enjoy as they were all toys and other objects I wasn't interested in.

Also, another issue I had was that nearly all of the objects we were supposed to look for were right beside each other. Your eyes didn't have to wander too far when the illustrator put 3 out of 4 of the items right next to each other. That took the fun out of it. It's pretty bad when as you're looking at it you find about a million different things that would have been better to find rather than the ones the author picked. The pages with jam-packed with all of the toys were harder to find the objects, so it did represent a challenge. At the end of the book it called for finding matching words, words that start with a certain letter or letters, and words that end with a certain letter or letters, and then words that rhymed, so this would be good for pre-kindergarten through first as the book suggests. It would challenge them and help with reading and understanding.

I like these level one I Spy books for the early reader. The kids love them too, and the picture lexicon style lends itself to word recognition.

My Review: I picked this one up to hopefully keep Munchkin busy during dinner prep. While it is a great Level 1 Reader and I Spy book, there really isn't much to make it Thanksgiving oriented. I was expecting more things like pilgrim hats, ears of corn, etc. while there were a few things it just didn't seem very Thanksgiving like to me. The one thing I really liked about this one is it not only had search and find pictures but also words, match the words, words that start with the same letter, and more that were a great challenge for a young reader.
