It’s crazy to think how the man I once admired morphed into the bane of my existence.

Declan Foxx was at one time my idol, the man who wrote stories so incredible that the very path of my future was changed. I didn’t just look up to him, I aspired to be just like him. But when the day came I got to meet him, I realized what a pompous jerk he was.

Vain, arrogant, naturally talented, and demanding.

Still, he was the best of the best, and when given the opportunity to work alongside him, I didn’t dare turn it down.

I thought I knew what I was getting into. Thought I understood how difficult he would be.

But it turns out, I had no idea. He was so much worse.

Mr. Foxx may be a man of poetic poise and pretty words, but it’s simply a guise for the dirty ones lying beneath the surface. The words that are so dirty and degrading most would be shocked by every single one.

But the thing is…

I think I might like being his perfect little word whor—.

this was a quick and spicy workplace romance which i completely ate up in 2 hours🤭. the tension between these two was delicious omggg(the copy room and board room scenes😮‍💨). i loved the whole solving a mystery aspect of this book to. i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again if you haven’t read any of the holinight novellas you NEED to!!!

I had so much freaking fun with this book. First off, it’s a workplace romance which I ABSOLUTELY FREAKING LOVE!!!!! And second? It focuses on two people who lowkey hate each other, but have this tension between them like the tightest of freaking ropes that you are just ready & WANTING to snap. &&& we get a little mystery in here 😉🫶

I don’t think anyone will ever compare to her for me. She has this ability to give you everything you need from a romance novel in a novella!!?!? Of course I always want more but I’m never disappointed! So do yourself a favor & read this one ;)

I love a good holiday romance novella but never expected to read one for Labor Day! As with the rest of the Holinights series, Lee Jacquot absolutely smashed it!

This was a super fun, fast paced smutty read about an investigative journalist finally getting to work with the man who inspired her to choose that career path. Little did she know, he's had eyes for her since her first day as a secretary - way before she ever became his assistant. Like the rest of this series, it was absolutely HOT. What a mouth on Declan!! And the copier scenes?! Incredible! I never knew I needed those kind of scenes in my life.

Eva has been working with Declan for the last two years, but he was never in the office or rather it was rare for him to report in the office. Most of their communication is through email. Apparently, Declan has been obsessed with Eva since the first time he met her, and he doesn't want to do any fraternization with her. He said he did it before, but nothing good came out of it (this info wasn't explained completely). As for Eva, she said she has been in love with the idea of Declan for years. She was amazed by his works and he inspired her to do investigative journalism.

So on Labor day, they were working in a case and let's just say the tension Declan's probably holding has finally snapped. The whole novella happened within a few hours only. He declared she will be his and she agreed to it.

Overall, it just didn't connect with me. Idk, for some reason the story isn't appealing unlike some of the prior books in this series. And although it pains me because I really liked the previous stories, the degradation/praise kinks here didn't work at all for me. Maybe because I've read so many books with the same themes, so I was expecting a bit more??? The lines were meh imo, they were tame to say the least (a me case probably for reading so many books with degradation kinks) Also, I didn't like the fact that it took him a long time to finally make his claim. For someone who proclaims he's obsessed, he sure as crap didn't get proactive knowing things about her. It annoys me too that he continually steers clear of her for the majority of the time they were working (the last two years). I liked my obsessed MMC to stick close to his FMC, close to the point that he thinks he would go out of his mind if he never get a glimpse of her.

Anywaaaay, so much for my ramblings, though this novella didn't work for me, other readers might feel differently about it.

Interesting change of pace

I loved this novella. I liked the buildup, the B-plot, and the characters a lot in this one. Declan was interesting, and he surprised me with his earnest dialogue and wit. I genuinely enjoyed reading this after not liking most of the books I've been reading recently.

A short and steamy workplace romance between a man that loves to degrade and praise and a woman that loves to be degraded and praised. Eva and Declan were HOT and the story was cute.

“You know how gorgeous you are when you’re focused?” Declan’s heavy hands find my shoulders briefly before one trails around and lightly grips my neck. An involuntary moan slips free as his lips brush along the shell of my ear. “How gorgeous you are when you come.” His hold tightens. “I could watch you fall apart for me every day and never grow tired of it.”
