Anna Dewdney was an award-winning children's-book author, illustrator, teacher, mother, and enthusiastic proponent of literacy and reading aloud to children. She was the author of the bestselling Llama Llama Red Pajama series of picturebooks, among many others. She lived with her partner Reed Duncan in Vermont where she worked, gardened, and spent time with her daughters and dogs.
This is another board book for very young readers. Like Llama Llama Zippity-Zoom, it's very simple and there's no real story (or even much of a theme). But toddlers will probably like imitating Llama Llama, and the rhythm of the words is nice and bouncy.
These animated e-book editions kind of freak me out a little, though. You're reading merrily along, and then the llama blinks at you. If you didn't know that was going to happen, you could be forgiven for thinking you were hallucinating!
One of the cutest board books for babies and toddlers! Almost like a Simon Says book, “Llama Llama hop! Llama Llama jump!” My kids loved repeating the actions in this book 🥰
I am not a fan at all of the original Llama Llama picture book, nor do I think it’s an appropriate choice for toddlers, but I do really like some of these related board books that use the character designs.
My daughter finds this book ever day, more than once. She loves flipping the pages back and forth and having me read it again and again. When we get to the word clap, she likes to clap, when we read hug, she gives me a hug. It's a cute book.
I think we may have lost this book, I haven’t seen it in a while. But when I do read it to Jilly and Em (18 mo.), they try their best to follow along and copy the instructions, and they are very good particularly at the clapping. I think this is their favorite of the Llama Llama books.
This would get five stars if Baby Llama was actually wearing red pajamas. It just doesn't make sense without, even if Dewdney is up for some variety, because of the refrain. Aside from that, we love this book. The physical actions are engaging enough that the book doesn't need loud flashy pictures, furry textures, or moveable parts, especially if you act them out. The best part is that when you get to the end of the book you get a "big hug now." I won't thoroughly discuss here but Dewdney is also a good illustrator- the illustrations have enough intention to be considered art with flowing expressive lines, appropriately-awkward poses, and lovely, joyful expressions.

My daughter (almost 3) is always attracted to the Llama Llama books at the library. She's already too old for this particular one, though. With its simple instructions and very short text, this is definitely ideal for 12-24 months.
I love that this book encourages children to practice moving their bodies in different ways. When I read this book, I change the last line to a question for consent reasons. I wish it was printed like that! Giving hugs should be an option.
this cute little book is one of many adventures of llama llama. it is about llama playing and doing different things. i think this book connects with the younger children because of silly things llama does and the fun words to go with it
My 2.5 year old LOVES this book. It’s a great book to add actions including hopping, jumping, stretching, tapping, bowing, clapping, hugging, etc. Not overly complicated, a great book for young listeners!

A rhyming board book made especially for Llama Llama fans. Demonstrating a variety of moves like hopping, stretching, clapping, and more, little ones are encouraged to follow Llama Llama's lead. And even if they don't, it's still a fun and happy book to share.
Join your child and follow along; get the blood flowing with these simple movements. And help your child learn that hop and jump are two different motions, while you're at it. I wish we'd had these books when my sons were more ready to move than to sit still for a book.
Jack borrowed this book from the Oxford Public Library. I picked it because has enjoyed other Llama Llama books, and he's learned to jump and likes dancing. Unsurprisingly, this book was a hit. He giggled at the llama and clapped his hands with llama and liked when I acted out the motions.
Great for teaching kindergarten or younger how to move. I immediately think of controlled classroom movement for young children who both love and need repetition especially when coupled with controlled movement to increase attention span.
