Kelley Armstrong has been telling stories since before she could write. Her earliest written efforts were disastrous. If asked for a story about girls and dolls, hers would invariably feature undead girls and evil dolls, much to her teachers' dismay. All efforts to make her produce "normal" stories failed.

Today, she continues to spin tales of ghosts and demons and werewolves, while safely locked away in her basement writing dungeon. She's the author of the NYT-bestselling "Women of the Otherworld" paranormal suspense series and "Darkest Powers" young adult urban fantasy trilogy, as well as the Nadia Stafford crime series. Armstrong lives in southwestern Ontario with her husband, kids and far too many pets.

You like Chloe/Derek? Kelley Armstrong has written the novella to satisfy all your shipping needs. :D Definitely not as action packed as the trilogy proper but who cares when we get Chloe/Derek makeouts. I also really enjoy Derek's voice.

“Okay, so on anniversaries, I need to give her something. An incentive.”
Simon almost walked into a tree. “What?”
“An incentive. Like in third grade, when Mrs. Nestor gave me a cookie every day that I didn’t read during class and promised me a candy bar if I didn’t read all week.”
“You never got that candy bar.”
“Because it wasn’t worth listening to her yammer about stuff I already knew. But this anniversary gift thing, is like that, right? An incentive for Chloe to keep going out with me.”
He sighed. “No . . . It’s just a gift.”
“To thank her for going out with me?”

I loved The Darkest Powers trilogy and I adored Derek. He's smart and reasonable, but not a dork. He's cynical and sarcastic but, not a complete ass. He's loyal and caring, but not sickly romantic. And GASP! A YA love interest who isn't fabulously, incredibly, shockingly, unbelievably, orgasmically, clichely hot&smexy??? Sign me up!!!

I loved him and Cloe as well. They called each other out on their bs but also supported and cared for each other.

Still... I didn't really enjoy this novella as much as I would have liked. Perhaps it's because it's just been so long since I finished the trilogy that I barely remember what happened. I wish I knew about it back when it was all still fresh in my heart and mind. Maybe I'll re-read the series one day and come back to this.

But that wasn't the only reason. Some of it was actually Derek. I couldn't really decide if his overbearing, overprotective, jealous attitude concerning Cloe was sweet or annoying. I just knew it was kind of obnoxious. The moments they had were cute though and I enjoyed them.

Overall this is okay. I don't regret reading it but I could've lived without it. It was nice to finally see how life was after the events of The Reckoning but I'm not nearly as curious as I was back when I had finished it.

I adore Derek! It was so great reading from his POV. Belonging takes place a few months after the events in The Reckoning, and we learn a bit more about the wolf side of Derek's family. What I loved the most though were the times he thought about and the moments he shared with Chloe. It was too cute! He's very protective of her and he goes overboard sometimes, but he tries really hard not to be overbearing. It's a good thing Chloe's really tough and always sets him straight. They really do make such a great team and perfect couple. :)

Anyway, you can read the novella (prologue + 11 chapters) on KA's Darkest Powers blog right now. She's going to take it down (not sure when), so be sure to read it while it's still there and available for free.

(Btw, I was neutral towards Aunt Lauren in the books, but after reading this novella.... ARGH! I cannot stand that woman!)

Oh I miss Derek and Chloe when I read this.

This is set about three months after The Reckoning. Derek and Chloe along with their family are on the run from the St. Cloud corporation. They are now living in the country in a farmhouse bordering a forest so that Derek is able to change into a werewolf without capturing much attention. Derek still struggles with being overprotective of Chloe, and still a little insecure of their relationship. Derek has been made to feel for so long that out of all the supernaturals, the werewolves are the lowest. Derek knows that Chloe and his "family" do not feel that way about him at all, but I'm not so sure about Chloe's aunt Lauren. I still don't completely trust her.

It's so nice to see these two together as a couple though. They're sooo cute!

I'm really glad Alexa reviewed this because I would've have missed this and I don't know how long Kelly Armstrong will keep this on her website but any fan of her Darkest Powers series should check it out!

It's eleven chapters and here is the link: http://www.darkestpowers.com/blog/

All I can say is

description

I am a fan of Derek and Chloe and I've always been wondering what Derek is thinking inside that smart head of his. And now I see there's nothing but Chloe...which are both sweet and disturbing at the same time.

He is portrayed to be overprotective here and basically, he is. But according to what I've learnt so far, wolves tend to be territorial and protect whatever they consider theirs regardless of the consequences. So the fact that Derek can think rationally (however little) makes me willing to cut him some slack.

The only thing I don't like is that how no one seems to think that a stranger to follow a fifteen-year-old is strange and creepy. And they have the nerve to brush it off. I mean, for someone who has been hiding and escaping, surely you think they have some brains to be careful.

But of course, I get to see some Derek/Chloe moments. Cute and adorable to the point that my heart is melting. That really brings back fond memories and reminds me why I fell so hard for them both back then.

They had earned a place in my heart, and will continue to do so.

Derek is one of my favorite narrators. I love seeing everything in his POV and he makes me laugh. And although I also liked Chloe's POV, Derek takes the cake.

Anyway, Chloe and Derek are also one of my favorite couples. If not the. They're so cute together. I have a crush on their relationship. Does that make any sense?

So why didI give this four stars instead of five? Well, the story was a bit weird. I won't tell you too much (you'll have to read it and find out) but I just... I don't know. But it was still much more entertaining than a lot of full-length books I've read.

Read this on Kelley's blog. Thank you Kelley!

OH!!!! I loved this. I think Derek and Chloe are my favorite YA couple. It's sooooooooooo refreshing to see what goes on in Derek's mind. Even though he was extremely gruff, it's nice to see that there really was something to him. I'm glad that the relationship is strong... who knows, In a couple of years they could have a litter of little necro-weres :)

Oh - and for anyone who's curious as to how I acquired this gem, I bought this off Amazon for $1.99. I've got a Mac and they have a downloadable Kindle App for Mac users, as I am the proud owner of a Nook.

Fun! I was taking my time, wanting to savor this "in-between" that was available on Armstrong's blog for free. Guess I could have read 11 chapters a little quicker than 2.5 weeks!!!

Nice story from Derek's pov, and nice to see his relationship with Chloe blossoming. Creepy new werewolves.

i gave this novella 3 stars, because yes I did like it, but the only reason why i wanted to read it was to see more of Chloe and Derek as a couple! which i absoloutely got to see but that's basically the only reason why i read it, so when other things were happening i kinda just skimmed through because i just wanted to read about Chloe and Derek lmao. so yes i liked this book because it gave me some closure to the reckoning.

i have to say though, every single time i think about Chloe and Derek's relationship i either cry or wanna cry just because they started together in the lyle house with an acquaintance relationship but obviously towards the end of the book they become friends, then in the awakening they start to catch feelings for each other, then finally they start dating! like not liking each other at all to dating! and Derek's character development and his protective instinct towards Chloe!! i love him, and he is my husband.

I loved this story. Is it weird I kind of felt sorry for Derek||'s grandad? He seemed to honestly believe he was doing the right thing and was so excited to discover his grandson existed||. That being said I obviously do not condone the way he went about it all, ||maybe post a letter, "I'm your biological grandfather, I'd love to meet up and discuss wolfy things with you" who knows, maybe it could have gone a little smoother||. I love the dynamic that Derek and Chloe have achieved, Derek is (atleast sometimes) thinking before he speaks and when he doesn't Chloe is very quick to shut that over protective stuff down. I liked seeing Liz again, ||especially as she came in mostly just to sass Derek and throw a plate at his cousin||. This is a good teen book series.

A quick read. I'm usually not a huge fan of short stories of any series but I just had to read this one. I love Derek and Chloe. I definitely prefer the "official" version of Derek--the quiet, brooding, scowling guy who is protective of Chloe. This one lacked something... obviously. I wasn't used to the chatty and slightly goofy version of Derek but I was still happy to see all the interactions between him and Chloe. And their budding romance 😊

Derek and Chloe have been dating for three months, living with Derek’s Dad, Simon, Chloe Aunt Lauren and Tori in a farm house outside of a town. But when someone from the Edison group alerts the Cains that they have another grandson not living as a part of their pack the happiness Derek and Chloe have found might soon come to a close. When the Cain’s kidnap Derek will he find his way back to his family?

I really did enjoy this story. It opens in a third person narrative from Brad’s point of view. Brad is a minor werewolf character working for Edison group or rather St. Cloud who was over Edison Group in the first place. He’s only in the story for the prolog. In chapter one the story switches to a first person narrative from Derek’s point of view. The opening chapters mostly establish what the living and relationship situation is like now for the characters of the Darkest Powers Trilogy. However the action picks up when Derek encounters his long lost werewolf family. My only issue with the plot is Lauren and Kit’s lack of concern when Carter followed Chloe into the forest. I mean whether he was part of the people hunting them or not a potential stalker should concern the adults caring for the teenage girl. Since they don’t really have the option of going to the police about it, because of those hunting them, that alone should have been cause for them to think about moving. Other than that I really did enjoy the story. It was fast paced and offered a decent amount of action, but it was more focused on Derek’s emotional struggles than anything else. I did however definitely enjoy the novella about what’s happening now for the Darkest Powers characters. The story was engaging, interesting and well written.

The characters are where I have an issue with this story, one in particular. I realize this is an entirely new situation, but Chloe was never extremely confident in the Darkest Powers trilogy but here she’s portrayed as self assured and confident. She’s not as sarcastic and she’s definitely a lot more playful than she was in the trilogy. Maybe it was because we’re viewing her through Derek’s eyes or because she’s more relaxed now that she’s not in immediate danger, but it just didn’t seem to fit with what we already knew of her character. Derek was well developed and I’ve most definitely enjoyed the novellas Armstrong has offered from his point of view, but again he just wasn’t the same as before. I could see how he would worry about losing Chloe because he’s never been in a relationship before or had a girl interested him, that I felt fit. But when he describes Chloe as being able to take care of and save herself I didn’t really feel that fit with the character we met in the novel either. Yes Armstrong explains this by Derek saying he’s getting better about being so overbearing and protective, but still he’s been so protective of Chloe for so long it’s hard to believe that he’d see her as capable now. The other reoccurring characters didn’t offer much in development, but Simon, Tori, Liz, and Lauren fit with their previous character development from the series. Yes their characterization mostly relied upon previous work rather than new establishment, but this is a novella and that’s understandable. Kit, Derek’s Dad gained a little more as a character in this story, but he wasn’t really developed in the novels since he only appeared in the final scenes of the third book. The book also fails to address Tori and Simon’s sibling relationship which Chloe discovered in the novels, but neither Simon nor Tori were actually informed of. You’d think by three months later Kit would have had the nerve to say hey Tori, I’m your artificially inseminated father. Or by now Chloe would have felt the need to tell her or something. I know they were background characters in this story but I felt that situation bore mentioning regardless. The new characters of Theo and Carter I felt were well developed introductions to the series. Brad was distinctive, though clearly a background character and Nate was a little flat for a character.

Overall I’d definitely recommend the novella found on the Darkest Powers Blog to readers who’ve enjoyed the Darkest Powers Trilogy. I imagine it will eventually be officially released as an ebook like the other short stories attached to this series in the Darkest Powers Bonus Pack, but at this time you have to go to the blog to read it.

So this is the continuation of the supposed last book in the Darkest Power Trilogy. I actually lucky that the link for the chapters in KA`s blog hasn`t being taken out yet..So yeah~

About this trilogy, I know that the last one couldn`t be the end of all things that going on because it didn`t sum up or resolve the whole story. So reading the 3.5 was actually quite a relief.

I wanted to give it a 5, but since this one didn`t match up with the feel of the third instalment, I dropped a star. Basically what makes the read different is:-
One, we`re reading this from Derek`s POV.So, it was different from the three previous setting. He`s all serious, and straight-headed, while Chloe, the one who I`ve read in all three books were funnier, and confused.
TWo, lack of action, instead more on the lovey dovey part between Derek and Chloe. I actually missing more on the part where they called a ghost back, and planning on another escape. Instead, I was feasted with Derek`s thinking on how he should celebrate his girlfriend, taking advices from Simon.
Three, nothing about the supernatural except for Derek`s part.Again,It was not really making any ends on the last book.

Interestingly though, there were new things being put forth here. It`s about Derek`s origin.Who he was and some bits about his werewolves pack. Another good point was that, I love Chloe here. She seemed sensible, and more likeable.

All in all, this is a short piece of writing, not enough to make it boil, but it sufficient enough to make the story simmered.

A good read!NUff said~

This is a short story, if you could call it that, based on the characters in her Darkest Powers trilogy and was narrated by Derek, rather than Chloe. It’s set after The Reckoning, and involves a new set of characters, the Cains. While in the mall, Derek gets a bad feeling about this one guy, who’s kind of flirting with Chloe. He brushes it off when he’s told he’s over-reacting. But is he? And is it really Chloe the guy wanted?

I loved this story. I love pretty much any story involving Derek as the narrator though. And this was new material. His other two stories were just covering times mentioned in the trilogy, while this one took place after. And I really enjoyed getting another peek at this cast of characters, since I love them so much. And the new characters, the Cains, I really enjoyed reading about them too. Though the prologue did kind of give away most of the plot for this one…

In short, this was a great read, and I was able to slip right into it and enjoy it without any problems. It was just that good.

Belonging is book #3.5, a short story in the Darkest Powers Series by Kelley Armstrong. This story is about Derek and told from his point of view. Derek is following his instincts, changing, patrolling, finding threats, keeping them safe. I loved the Darkest Powers Series and I hope they intersect with Jeremy from Women of the Otherworld Series and can find a home of their own, without running.

This novella was good, but it's probably my least favorite out of all of the Darkest Powers Trilogy novellas. I found the beginning to kind of drag, and as much as I liked having some more closure to Derek's werewolf past, I honestly just wasn't that interested, and I felt like I left the novella with more questions than I'd started it with. But there were a few parts when it was just Chloe and Derek together that I found really sweet.
