Jackie Merritt's first book was published in December of 1988, and since then she's been deeply engrossed in the writing game. While she's gone through dry spells, where she can't write a word that makes sense and every idea ends up in the trash can, for the most part she's usually working on a viable story.

Jackie honestly believes that anyone with a reasonable grasp of language and grammar can write a bookif they're self-disciplined enough to put in the time and effort that writing demands. Starting a book is easy; staying with it until it is finished is the part that stops many would-be authors. Jackie believes she had an advantage that a lot of people do not have. As a former accountant, she was used to working alone and completing long projects. Oddly enough, the same principles apply to writing.

Plus, of course, you have to love it. Jackie's first attempts to write fiction were so bad they were comical, but she still fell in love with writing. She had written hundreds of business letters before that, but never a word of fiction, and there, all of a sudden, was a whole new world for her to explore.

Marked for Marriage is a romance novel by American author, Jackie Merritt in the Montana Mavericks series. Maddie Kincaid, sister of Mark (recently married to Darcy), is badly injured by a fall from her beloved horse, Fanny during a rodeo. Against medical advice, she drives her truck, trailer and Fanny from Texas to Montana to convalesce in Whitehorn. She hides the extent of her injuries so Mark and Darcy can go on their honeymoon. But Mark has arranged for Doctor Noah Martin to keep an eye on her. And when Noah arrives to do his duty, don’t the sparks fly! Maddie seems determined to ignore every bit of good advice he has for her. This is another delightful installment in the Montana Mavericks series that also resolves the longstanding question of who the arsonist and poisoner is. Merritt at her best.

I've enjoyed reading the continuing saga of life in Whitehorn, but this book isn't flowing as well as most of the others. I find the conversational tone between the characters stilted, and don't enjoy reading books where young character's speech is unnatural. The youth don't speech in full sentences; don't say things like my darling.

Our main character,Maddie is unbelievably unrealistic. Her complete and total disregard for common courtesy, much less her own safety, and good sense is again not believable. She's completely over the top. Her character was too exagerated, too immature, and too ridiculous.
