About the author

Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Bourgeois graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational therapy from the University of Western Ontario in 1974. She was a psychiatric occupational therapist for three years before deciding to focus on her writing. She studied journalism at Carlton University then worked as a reporter for the Ottawa Citizen and CBC Television. She became a freelance journalist in Washington, D.C. contributing pieces to Chatelaine, Canadian Living, Reader's Digest and Maclean's. She returned to Toronto in 1983.

In 2003, she became a Member of the Order of Canada and in 2007, she received an Honourary Doctor of Laws from her alma mater, the University of Western Ontario.

My sister and I grew up with blankets, so this story resonated with me. I enjoyed the detailed illustrations and how Franklin’s parents didn’t belittle his blanket. It was interesting to compare how each of Franklin’s friends reacted to his news about his lost blanket.

S Franklinom okrem pátrania po prikrývke zisťujeme, že niečo, čo máme z celého srdca radi, sa veľmi ťažko nahrádza. Najbližší kamaráti aj ocko mu chceli byť nápomocní, no s ničím nevie tak dobre zaspať, ako je zvyknutý. Jeho deka mu poskytuje vonkajšiu formu istoty a bezpečia. Rozuzlenie celého prípadu stratenej prikrývky má vtipný koniec. Dá sa z neho vziať aj ponaučenie, že vymýšľať a utajovať niečo sa neoplatí.

Mojím najobľúbenejším detailom je ilustrácia, kde je možné všimnúť si ukrytú prikrývku s plyšovou korytnačkou, ktorá ju našla hneď na začiatku prehľadávania domu.

Moja dcérka je asi jedno z mála detí, ktoré nelipne na žiadnej hračke, veci či mojkáčikovi. Viem si však predstaviť, ako by bola smutná, ak by stratila niečo, čo je pre ňu vzácne. Kniha ponúka námet na diskusiu s deťmi, čo by robili, ak by stratili svoju obľúbenú vec a ako by sa s tým mohli vysporiadať. Je vhodná pre deti od 3 rokov (alebo aj skôr, ak máte doma malého knihomoľa ako my).

As a 30-something who still sleeps with a blanket from time to time.... This was awesome!!

Franklin looses his blanket. He can't remember where he put it and sleeping without it is just super hard. His parents help him look. The next day he goes over to his friends' house to see if he forgot it there. He can't find it! His Dad loans him his old hatchling blanket and Beaver lets Franklin borrow her teddy bear.

It just goes to show Franklin that at one point or another, everybody has had a comfort item at one point in there life.

This is a great story for little kids who have that special something they need to go to bed. The illustrations are also super duper cute. I especially liked Franklin's nightlight full of lightening bugs.

I'm sure many people could relate with this book. Whether it is a blanket, stuffed animal or favorite toy you grew up with, we all have sentimental items that are difficult to let go. In this particular story, its Franklin's blanket. With each year, Franklin’s blanket gets smaller and smaller, and there comes a point where Franklin can no longer find the blanket. Of course, no other blanket or stuffed animal can replace it. After looking in multiple places including his friends’ houses, his blanket appears under his own chair (filled with brussels sprouts). This book shows the importance about retracing your steps and what you can do if you've lost something.

Young or old, this book can touch a variety of audiences as everyone has something from their childhood that they clung too.

I really loved this book. It does a great job at expressing the feelings a child has about a beloved object, even if it's tattered and worn. It could be appropriate to read this book in a Pre-K or Kindergarten class or to any child that loves a favorite object unconditionally.

Ill always remember this book and this was also my favorite Franklin book by far. I loved the book so much that my mum brought me the exact same blue blanket like Franklin had. I still have it today.

Franklin deals with another issue of childhood - the loss of a treasured blankie. He searches everywhere and finally finds it. The point of this little tale was in Franklin's household there's room for old, treasured items.
