Paul Kameroff was found at the bottom of an icy hill, hands and ankles neatly bound, with a bullet hole in the back of his head. They don't think it was suicide. A short story
Dana Stabenow was born in Anchorage and raised on 75-foot fish tender in the Gulf of Alaska. She knew there was a warmer, drier job out there somewhere.
Jim & Kate's dialogue is always fun. I like that these short stories are told from his POV, it gives us a bit of a look on ~the other side~.
There's so much food in such a tiny tale. Kate is a woman who knows what she likes - and what she likes is a lot of delicious goodies (cheeseburgers, steaks, pie, etc.) It didn't help that I was smelling the chicken soup I've been making all afternoon while reading this!
Favorite quote:
“You’re a witch, aren’t you,” he said two days later. “Go ahead, you can say it, I won’t tell. I may personally burn you at the stake, but I won’t tell.”
It has been fun discovering Kindle singles by some of my favorite writers. In this one, a simple truck overturning on a bad road leads to a neat little mystery.
Jim Chopin calls in Kate to help identify a body found after a wreck. The sexual tension between Kate and Jim turns up a notch in this fast paced short story.
