Now we’re cooking. This entry brings a lot of what is great about JoJo to light. It’s hard to remember at times that Joseph is kind of *that* guy. We embark on a journey of finding his inherited uncle Speedwagon and move from a vampire series into something entirely different.

I’m glad Araki moved away from the classic vampire archetype and moved into what is the Pillar Men. There’s a lot more of his own touch in this entry that will lend itself to later characters and story lines. You can even see Araki leaning into supernatural abilities beyond just Hamon and thinking about what else can be seen as potentially mundane turned super power (Zeppeli’s bubble attack). This definitely is a great capstone to the Hamon arcs and brings JoJo out of what could have been a boring and trite retelling of humans vs. vampires, but instead brings us to a world outside of the European, Dracula feel of Phantom Blood and brings us to the wild open world where vampires have horns that shoot out of their heads and absorb bodies by touching them and can hide in your skin to protect themselves.

Great stuff and I’m looking forward to more.

3 estrellas.

Available English translation read

Joseph must face the Man in the Column, Santana, where his Ripple ability only just keeps him ahead of his opponent - and when he and his uncle learn of other warriors being watched by the Nazis, they head to Rome to seek aid from a man of familiar lineage in hopes of further training...Araki delivers a fast-paced bombardment of muscle and personality in this suspenseful entry. Who could possibly be waiting for Joestar's arrival...?
