Cara Colter was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, surrounded by ranches, but she was always a reluctant city girl. A journalism graduate, she has been making her living with words for her entire adult life. Before published her first romance novel in 1987, she wrote educational materials, newspaper stories, magazine articles and even sermons!

"I am living proof that dreams come true," Cara says. "I am an ordinary person leading an extraordinary life."

Now she lives on a small acreage in British Columbia. She shares her life with her personal hero, Rob, a cat and eight horses. She has three grown children, and already is a granmother.

2 Stars ~ When her vet tells her that her beloved cat is overweight, librarian Bridget Daisy decides she needs to install a cat door and fence in her back yard so Conan can get out and exercise. She asks the Library maintenance man and her dear friend, Fred, for the name of a contractor to do the job. Justin West didn’t have time in his schedule to deal with a cat door and fence. He was busy building houses and he had real deadlines. But he couldn’t disappoint Fred, the man who had been his father’s best friend and who had helped him during those last very hard years of his father’s life. Bridget was not like any librarian Justin had ever seen before. Sure she dressed kind of old-maidish, but those legs were terrific and she had the most beautiful face and fiery red hair. Conan knew instantly that the sparks between Bridget and Justin spelt big trouble and he would have to do everything in his power to keep them apart.

I usually love Ms. Colter’s books. I can’t place my finger on why, but this book just didn’t do much for me. I almost set it aside to read another time, and perhaps I should have. Justin was the highlight of the book. He realizes he can be a better man and tries very hard to be that for Bridget. It was fun watching Bridget come out of her old-maidish shell. Conan’s point of view was witty in places, but I found it to be mostly distracting and took away from the romance. Yes, that must be why I had a hard time with this book. As a cat, Conan was well written with great insight in cat behaviour in typical Garfield style, but his antics were distracting. The best parts of this book were when we were actually part of Justin and Bridget’s interactions, and not just by-standers. Unfortunately, there were not enough of those best parts to make this a memorable read for me.
