I fully expect not to get any likes with this review and for other readers to enjoy this book. But this is the type of novel that makes me worry for the reputation of Australian writers. Others may disagree.

Basically, this is a story where three impossibly attractive women meet three gorgeous men and dislike them immediately, the women all face a problem in their lives, solve it and decide they like the men after all and we all live happily ever after. All very ho-hum and not much literary content to stretch the imagination.

If you like a novel where there appears to be a very thin central plot linking all three characters, then this may be for you. If you like every highbrow fashion designer name mentioned with what I found tedious repetition, then this is for you. If you like that all the women are spectacularly beautiful and the men gorgeous, then this is for you. For these topics, I read my monthly copy of Vogue. If some really bad sentence structuring doesn't bother you, then you wont mind this book. It reminded me of some 25 years ago when I read the Judith Krantz novels but at least Krantz had some depth in her work; there is no depth in The Perfect Location. There was nothing memorable in this novel for me. It annoyed me on so many levels but predominantly because I wasted good reading time reading it. Vacuous, thin and unsatisfying. Assigned to my Junk bookshelf: a very meagre 2★ for this effort.

Sounds like a load of old tosh, doesn't it?! I absolutely loved it, and if you have books of the Tasmina Perry or Jackie Collins variety as one of your guilty pleasures, so will you. It's well written and the three actresses are brilliantly drawn, turning from the initial paper cut-outs to characters of real and surprising depth, with secrets piled on secrets, slowly revealed. And the men are wonderful - everyone should have a friend like Jack, and I'm still secretly in love with TG. And all the better, just 99p for Kindle at the moment.

Listen to this book if you enjoy poking your eyes with a fork. No, that’s not fair, you will enjoy this book if you’ve never actually read a book before, or if you’re 8.

The Perfect Location was a great book to sit and read. It created a sense of escapism and allowed you an insight to the characters in Hollywood removing them from their stereotypical image. All three characters, which the story concentrated on, had their own different backgrounds and found themselves in difficult positions which wouldn't be told in the press to stop them from damaging their image. It poses the question, what are the secrets of those in Hollywood keeping from the media's attention?

What was good about this book and the characters was that it showed that fame and fortune which people seek doesn't make them happy. It comes with its drawbacks such as those issues discussed within the pages which Kate Forster has done an excellent job at doing.

One thing that caught my eye, and was a nice touch, was the split sections of: Pr-Production, Production, Post-Production and Deleted Scenes which stuck with the movie theme and created a sense of timing in relation to getting ready for filming, the filming itself and what happened after. I would definitely recommend this. It is a real page turner. For 99p on Amazon, I'd say it's a brilliant price for Kindle but I'd say it is worth more. Bargain.

The author neglected to warn you that this book has scenes of rape, abortion, needles, creepy women touching children who aren’t her own, boundary issues, abuse and neglect.

If you thought this book was nice and fluffy, it is not.

Spoilers ahead!

I was expecting a light read when I picked up this book, as LITERALLY NOTHING about it tells you otherwise. It fits in perfectly with all of the other beach reads. Instead, I made a grave mistake.

This book was quite honestly written so damn offensively as an abuse victim that I hope the author feels some sense of shame if she ever re-reads it.

Here is why:

• There is a graphic rape scene thrown in, just to add a bit of drama because omg how juicy would rape be in this book?

• This character immediately gets over it and jumps into a relationship with another guy who she is comfortable sleeping with. That’s how rape victims work, right guys?? Guys????

• Another character finds a child in a museum and thinks it’s okay to touch him, grab him, kiss him and offer him candy from her pocket. She then tells him he smells nice. Later on, she brings him into her house and takes him away to a private spot “as a treat” and fawns over him specifically, ignoring the other older siblings. She still kisses him and holds him to her body. This screams grooming to me. It’s meant to be maternal, I think, but she was a creepy character to me personally.

• The relationships that are meant to be healthy are simply not. Anytime a character sets a boundary (I’m not ready, I’m not in a good place for a relationship), they will immediately have sex and start a relationship within 1-2 pages. What’s the point of setting that boundary if it doesn’t matter to anyone?

• Police are NEVER used in the situations of rape, sexual assault, drugging, or attempted murder. Instead, the attacker gets thrown into the river and the local police “just assume it’s another druggie.” LMAO sorry but does this author know how investigations work? Or how blatantly disrespectful it is to victims to just not get professional help? Or how rape victims need closure and therapy rather than someone just sending the rapist away????????

• WHY DON’T ANY OF THE CHARACTERS HAVE PTSD BEYOND A LITTLE BIT OF CRYING?? It would be nice for this author to have done a little bit of research but it seems like that was far too much effort for this book. The most upset these characters get is crying, desperately needing a (abusive) man to hold them, or asking someone to tell them what to do. Disgusting, really.

If all of that was simply not enough for you, the author has chosen to include slurs, such as f*g and retarded. Yes, this book is also incredibly homophobic while including a gay character. How does one manage this? Well, the character says he chooses not to “act a certain way” and instead take on a “straight man” persona, but once he comes out of the closet to another character, he’s all “oh honey” and “dahling” like as if this author can’t decide what she wants her 1 gay character to do with himself.

I’m also SHOCKED that she thanked her editor at the end considering the amount of typos, grammatical errors, slurs, homophobia and sexism in this book. Are they just good friends or something? How did that even happen?

This book tried to be so many things and failed on all of them. The love interests are pushy men who DEMAND that the girl talk to him and sleep with him despite just going through assault and rape. How romantic, let me just swoon over how nice they seem!!

The icing on top was just the casual “I watched a documentary on poor women in Africa and now I’m a hero!!” at the end. This character also claims a baby she meets at the African orphanage is the same soul of the one she aborted years ago and immediately adopted her. Just as weird as another character who talked to the dead ex-wife of a man she wanted to be with, from the help of a medium.

I could go on, but damn this book is complete and total garbage and is just plain offensive. The author AND editor should be ashamed of themselves for letting this be published. Maybe instead of writing shit books, this author should READ BOOKS INSTEAD AND LEARN SOMETHING.

If I could give this 0 stars, I would. So disgusting.

Fame... Movies... Men... Secrets... Glamour

Rose Nightingale is an Australian actress still recovering from a bad marriage. She is older, kind but not very happy. I imagined her something like Julia Roberts after bad marriage and divorce.

Sapphira De Mont is the world's most beautiful movie star, but hides a secret addiction and a broken heart. I definitely think that Angelina Jolie is the inspiration behind this character. She is beautiful, confident, popular but her drug addiction made me sick. I don't like books about addicts.

Calypso Gable is a young star on the rise trying to escape her mum-manager's clutches. Calypso was my favorite character because she is too young, innocent, good and naive to be in this world.

When the three women meet in Perugia, Italy, on the set of their new tearjerker THE ITALIAN DREAM, they find out more about one another - and about themselves - than they ever thought possible.

This was a good book - not some crazy page-turner but solid. Bit to long and detailed for my taste.

Needs trigger warning: drug/needle use, rape, vomit, etc. I got really sick of "Her Chanel purse, her Prada jacket...blah blah blah". I liked the other book in this series but didn't really enjoy this one or the characters. Also one of the characters kept talking about frangipani flowers and I had to Google it. Plumeria. I know the author isn't from the US but half the characters were. Meh.

First of all, I want to say just how much I love this book cover. It's summery, it's feminine, it's gorgeous and I loved it - it looks even better on the finished book which is fab. This is Australian author Kate Forster's debut novel, and it's one I've been looking forward to for a while. Interestingly, a prequel to this book was released as a free eBook by the publishers, although I haven't gotten around to reading it yet so I can't say you miss out by not reading it before you read the book! I was really looking forward to reading this one, and although it was the second book in a row I'd read that was set in Italy, it didn't spoil my enjoyment of it at all and I managed to get through the book very quickly as I was hooked and didn't want to put it down!

The book is the story of 3 actresses, Sapphira, Calypso and Rose. The women had auditioned for a part in a new Hollywood movie, and had each won a part. Now though, they were in Italy and dealing with their own issues as well as trying to short a brand new movie. Sapphira is battling her own personal demons whilst trying to hide her secret from her co-stars, and the world. But behind the trouble lies a broken heart she doesn't quite know how to fix. Calypso is a relatively new actress compared to her co-stars, and has been encouraged/forced into roles all her life by her mother who also happens to be her manager. She really wants to break free but doesn't know how, and just wants a sense of normality. Finally, there's Rose who always seems to be running away from something. She's running away from her failed marriage, but also from any kind of affection as well. Will the movie being shot in the perfect location help the women who seem to have it all find happiness at last?

This book got straight in with the story, and I loved that. It introduced the characters one by one, which is how the book continues, with a narrative that changes throughout the book but manages to keep you completely involved. Each of the female characters are well written, and I really enjoyed getting to know each of them as the stories of them progress. My favourite was probably Calypso, the youngest and most naive of the group but after a shocking twist in her storyline, I really liked how she evolved and found her to be very realistic. Sapphira was probably the character I took a while to warm to, but again, as things are revealed about her, you begin to understand her. Overall though, the female characters are so well written, and although they are each very different, they blend so well and make up such a good cast.

The male characters in this book too are very important, but I don't want to say too much about them because they are involved in the evolving storylines with the female characters Sapphira, Calypson and Rose. However, my favourite was certainly the director TG, a guy with a big heart who just wants to help and make everyone happy, but lovely Jack, a co-star on the film was fantastic too! Some things in the book did surprise me I have to confess - there are some graphic scenes of drug use, a couple of sex scenes that were a bit surprising to read in there due to the nature of the, and I found a few scenarios surrounding Sapphira a little bit uncomfortable as well. I really hadn't expected that within this book, but nonetheless, I didn't let it spoil my enjoyment of the book because the rest of it was fantastic.

The setting of Italy is perfect for the book, and I loved Forster's beautiful writing about the area, from the scenic descriptions to the glorious food she mentions throughout the book - she certainly makes it sound like somewhere I want to visit! Overall, this is a fantastic book that I loved, and would highly recommend to anyone who likes a bit of a gritty read. It's extremely well written, and I really enjoyed how the narrative chopped and changed between the characters, it allowed the story to keep flowing, but the film manages to keep it altogether as well. It was touching, it was emotional, it was a read full of love and hope, and was a joy to read. It's a fantastic novel, and it certainly makes me look forward to future releases from Kate Forster, she's a bright star in the world of chick lit, and this book is a fantastic summer read!

4.5 stars rounded up. This was better than I expected. It moves slowly and is not a book filled with action. The focus is on the characters and their lives throughout the storyline.

I brought this on kindle and this is a great price at the moment so head over and click to get your copy. This has to be the best Summery cover released so far this year and I am pleased to say the story inside is just as delightful.

The story follows three actresses Rose, Calypso and Sapphira who have all been signed to shoot a new film in Italy. We soon get to know each of the actresses, and each of them have their own personal problems. Youngest of the three is Calypso who has been pushed from film roll to film roll by her manager who also happened to be her mum, but is this really Calypso's dream or is her mum living her dreams through Calypso. I loved how real Calypso's character felt and how although she has done previous film work she didn't come across as a diva.

Rose is leading the single life after coming out from an unhappy marriage but she will not let anyone close again, and as much as she wants children she feels as though her time is up. I actually found that Rose was my favourite character at times I forgot that she was an actress as she felt very down to earth.

Sapphira has a big secret which she has been carrying with her for years but it looks as though her secret has finally been found out. Out of the three characters I found it took me longer for Sapphira to grow on me. She was exactly what I expected an actress who had been in the industry for years to be like and I really didn't think I was going to like her but half way through the book my opinion of her changed and it was great to see the change in her character too.

The story got off to a great, quick start and had my attention gripped from the first few pages. As we go along in the book the chapters alternate between each of the characters so we really get to know each of the characters individually.

I loved how each of the additional characters were developed well as I usually find with books who have a large amount of characters like this the characters seem to be skimmed over so you struggle to remember who was who and who was doing what but this wasn't the case with The Perfect Location.

The story covers a number of issues such as drugs and abuse but the author manages to bring these issues into the storyline without it becoming to deep and depressing. There was so much going on between the pages it made it impossible to put down.

The way the author tied the ending of the book up was perfect as we know how each of the characters end up so we are not left guessing.

This is well worth picking up and a definite book to take away on your holidays this year. I can not wait to read more work from this author

Taken from my blog www.rosiereview.wordpress.com

I enjoyed the story of this book. I liked how each chapter was either Sapphira, Rose or Calypso’s story. I was easily lost in this book, I read it quite quickly wanting to find out what happens next. There are a few twists to the story, some I dont agree with – like the ending to Sapphira’s story – I wont spoil it for you but after what she goes through in the book her ending does seem rushed. Another bit I found a bit unbelievable was when Calypso leaves Italy and refuses to speak to her boyfriend until she was ready to and then he had to bend over backwards for her!

The characters were well written – with all the switching from chapter to character I didn’t get confused. In fact it hooked me more as I had to read more chapters to get to what happens next for each character! I would have liked to have seen more interaction between the female characters. This book is fantastic if you’re looking for a holiday read – although I read it in two days so maybe pick something else to take with you as well!

I’m rating this book as a must read mainly due to it originality and how it’s written.

'The Perfect Location' by Kate Forster was pure chick-lit. The story centred around three women film stars on location in Italy. If you love reading about the rich and famous you'll enjoy this. I did get sick of the number of times designer labels were constantly mentioned: in one ludicrous paragraph we read that Rose washed herself with Santa Maria Novella products, dried herself on Frette bath sheets, popped on a Melissa Odabash bikini, slipped on a Diana von Furstenburg tunic dress, put her feet into Jimmy Choo sandals and sprayed herself with Jo Malone perfume. Perhaps the author got paid for each mention??? As most of these names mean nothing to me, I guess I am not the targeted reader. And when she casually gave a doorman $300 as a tip, I sighed and closed the book.

I enjoyed this but hated it at the same time? First of all, this book is in desperate need of trigger warnings. There is abortion, drug addiction, rape and sexual assault with no warning. The rape scene was graphic too. Also! How can a book be homophobic while having a gay character? The stereotypes were so frustrating and slurs were even used casually.
I enjoyed reading about these women navigating their lives but there was parts that were too unrealistic and overdramatic.

From Lucy Walker to Kate Forster, female Aussie authors have been giving us weekend romantic escapism for a long time. Mummy porn? It certainly had the sex scenes, drugs, boys, liberating new hair styles and numerous designer references to warrant a good if frivolous time. Recommend for a break from book club books!

Based around the lives of three Hollywood actresses, Sapphira, Calypso and Rose, this story winds it's way along nicely, with plenty of plotlines beneath the bubbling romances that are at the heart of the tale to keep you interested.

I found it an enjoyable and easy read.

An absolutely terrific book. Kept me up to 04:00 reading it and every available opportunity at work. I love the way the short chapters update on the 3 main chatraters and yet intertwine them with each other.

I dislike very few books and this is sadly one of them. I know this is a chick-lit. It's supposed to be light, cheeky, etc. but the cliches were ALL over the place and that just annoyed me a lot.
