Two hellhounds walk into a team-building exercise...
When Evie's cheer squad goes on a team-building weekend, the last thing she expects is to make a connection with a fellow hellhound.
Ceb didn't know what to expect from the event, but it certainly wasn't a gorgeous cheerleader challenging him to a bet that would change everything.
Will the two of them give in to the romance building between them? And can they put their teamwork to good use for the upcoming Hell Scramble?
- Team Building For Friendly Hellhounds is a light-hearted shifter academy m/f romance set at Obscure Academy. It features a chance meeting between two hellhounds that grows into more.

This is the ninth book already in the Obscure Academy series and this series is still going strong. This series is so much fun to read and this book was no exception. This book is about Evie and Ceb who meet at a team building weekend. Evie is there with the cheerleaders and Ceb with the chess club, they get teamed up together and from there their connection deepens.
I liked reading about Evie and Ceb. I liked seeing how well they hit it off right away and how they're both competitive and make a bet. I thought how they met at a team building event was an interesting set up and then the team building weekend comes to an end and I liked seeing how their relationship develops wen they're back at the academy. I liked reading about them and seeing how their relationship deepens throughout the book.
There are quite some characters from previous books as well as upcoming books that make an appearance. I liked seeing more of some of the cheerleader characters we met before, as well as some others like Zoya. I also liked seeing how Evie interacted with Mandy and I am excited for her book. As well as Sera and what learning a bit about phoenixes, I look forward to her story too.
I liked how Evie and Ceb were both hellhounds and we see a bit of them in their shifted form as well. There's a competition they take place in where they have to shift between forms, which was fun to read about too.
To summarize: I really enjoyed this book! This series is so much fun and am excited every time a new book releases. These are light and fun reads with paranormal creatures and sweet romances. This book is about Evie and Ceb who are hellhounds and meet at a team building event. I thought it was interesting how they meet at a team building event and I liked seeing how their relationship develops as they return to the academy. I liked reading about them and seeing how they interact. There are plenty of side characters too, some characters from previous books I enjoyed seeing again as well as characters who star in upcoming books and I am looking forward to their stories. I liked reading about the hellhounds and seeing them in their shifted forms a few times as well. Another great read and I look forward to the next one!
If you've never read a Laura Greenwood novel before it's always hard to explain what her books are like. I can totally imagine they're not everyone's cup of tea. For me they're a breath of fresh air in between dramatic and emotional reads. I'm therefore always glad when BookSprout notifies me that another arc is ready to be grabbed.
What I loved about this book is that it was light hearted and fun. There is little to no drama in this book, apart from a few small moments, but those are solved quite quickly, and yet the book is never boring. Sometimes you don't need loads of action or loads of heartbreak to get a nice and interesting story!
That's also because both main characters in this book are a lot of fun. They're both a perfect mix of playful and endearing. They can tease each other a lot, but quite often comments just slip from the tongue without them realizing what they are saying. I also like how clear it is that these two characters feel safe and free around each other.
In this book we also get to see a little more of the chaos in the dorms, especially now more and more students are finding partners. I've never lived in a big dorm as a student, but I like how people are starting to complain that it gets a little too crowded and that it's hard to find some peace. I also like how the stories intertwine and how we get glimpses of older and newer stories.
I already can't wait for the next one to be released.
What I like about the Obscure Academy series is that it’s about relatable people who happen to be supernaturals like vampires, mermaids, hellhounds, etc who have a problem to overcome or something to prove to themselves. The characters are all new adults who are going to their first or second year at university, which is the Obscure Academy.
This book is Evie’s and Ceb’s story. Evie is on the cheer squad. Her team captain is unhappy that they came in third in their last competition, so she signs the team up for a team building weekend. The other Obscure Academy club that is participating isn’t a sports organization, but rather the chess club! The cheerleaders are paired with members of the chess club, and Evie is paired with Ceb who also happens to be a hellhound, although an unusual one. They have a great time with the team building exercises and learn that they are both competitive! Throughout the book, they find that they pair well together as friends and as a couple. When they’re back at campus, they pair up for the Hell Scramble, a special event obstacle course open to hellhounds and shifters. This is a sweet romance.

Greenwood has written yet another engaging, funny, spirited story of young adult love that gives readers a fly-on-the-wall interloper vantage point. The settings for this book are both unique and inviting, while the wonderful characters draw you through the pages wanting to know "what will befall them next".
Ceb & Evie were seemingly from to different worlds. Yet, the more they were together, and learned about the other, those differences took a backseat to the commonalities. There were both funny and tender moments sprinkled throughout the pages. Simply perfect!
I can definately see reading this book again when I yearn for a brief respite from life's realities. Escaping into Obscure Academy's walls and reconnecting with old friends is the perfect lazy afternoon. Join me?!
I did receive an ARC of this book, but this review is completely honest and voluntary. Happy Reading Y'all 📚
It’s the start of the summer term at the Obscure Academy and Evie is one of the cheerleaders under Zara (who is scary). Evie and the rest of the cheer squad are required to attend a weekend of events with the Chess Club that shows team building. I laughed so hard during this book! She meets Ceb from the Chess Club and they spend a lot of time together. They are so cute. Evie is a hellhound and so is Ceb. I figured out his real name long before it is stated or you get to see what he can do lol. Learning about hellhounds was fascinating, plus cheer is weird and supernatural cheer is even more exciting and weird, lol. I laughed when I found out their full names. This book is just so much fun watching them go thru what they do. It was a bit exciting too. I can’t wait to read the next book.

Published in Horns and Halos anthology (releases separately 21 Sep)
Puppy love – hellhound style Who’da thought that cheer & chess would be perfect mates? Yes, pun intended. Yes, completely horrible. Yes, there are plenty of double entendres to make up for my lack of wit.
There was a wee bit of seriousness, though. One of the characters is not quite comfortable sharing his/her shifter sitch. And that’s totally okay. Nobody should feel pressured to disclose personal or private information. The author (yet again) uses dialogue to get across the message that if we overstep a boundary, then we should acknowledge it and apologize.
More university shenanigans coming up in ‘Minor Inconveniences for Annoyed Pixies’ (July) and ‘Cooking Classes For Vegetarian Ghouls’ (Aug).
"This time, it's really not about the winning, it's about the game."
Evie and her cheerleader squad are competitors at heart, but they're about to up their game on the teamwork front.
Ceb and the Chess club may seem an unlikely group to find at the teambuilding retreat, but they add an interesting element to this story.
This done in one story tackles both expectations and assumptions, stereotypes and prejudices as the cheerleaders discover they need to do more than synchronize their movements to win cheer competition, and teamwork involves off the field time as well as on the field practice and training.
I was gifted with a copy of Teambuilding For Friendly Hellhounds and chose to share my thoughts.
When our hero and heroine are sent to a team building exercise, they did not expect to get this close to their teammate.
This is part of a series, but it is written as a standalone, so no prior reading is required.
The story is a paranormal romance with an academy setting. The story is well written and easy to read with a couple of fun characters as our leads. A team building exercise provides the perfect impetus for our characters to really get to know each other in this unusual romance. Overall, this one was rather light and entertaining, which was perfect for a relaxing read. I look forward to visiting again in the future.
Highly recommended.

This is a sweet stand-alone addition to an ongoing paranormal YA series. The MCs are adorable and a bit of opposites attract. I loved the friendly competition that started it all at the team-building camp and how they kept that partnership going after they returned to the academy. There is no angst, and any sex is off-page. The only thing that bothers me about this book (and the whole series) is the seeming glorification of drinking, frequently to excess. While this may be a part of the college experience, with alcoholism and drunk driving being endemic (at least in the USA), I don't think such frequent and excessive drinking should be depicted as acceptable behavior.

Cheer n chess don't normally mix but in this story they rock! Evie is a rambunctious cheerleader, all typical cheerleader except a non-dater but loves crowds and competitions. Ceb is a quiet guy and into chess. They meet at a team building event and a budding romance begins... once back at school disaster strikes but they find a way to connect. Dates begin and they decide to take part in an even for hell hounds, great fun is had and they're already planning for next year! A fun and great romance has begun! Looking forward to more Obscure Academy! I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Evie's cheerleader squad is signed up by their leader Zara for a team-building weekend where they will learn to work better together. The Chess Club group also shows up and Evie is partnered with Ceb, both of them hellhound shifters yet still very different. They actually enjoy the weekend activities and make bets with each other as to which team will win. Has the weekend helped the teams work more comfortably together? Will Evie and Ceb be able to see each other when the festivities of the weekend are over? Or will their busy schedules at the Academy make that impossible?
Evie's cheer squad leader has signed the squad up for a team-building weekend to make them work better as a team. It’s a surprise when they are partnered with members of the Chess Club. Evie’s partner is also a hellhound and the two of them have fun together during the weekend activities. The weekend brought them together but will that change when they are back at the Academy?
This sweet romance was fun to curl up with on a rainy afternoon. I received an advance copy but my review is honest and voluntary.
That was such incredible fun. On the face of things, Evie and Ceb should be complete opposites: the cheerleader and the nerd. And yet, it didn’t take very long for the pair to realize how much they have in common. I thought these two were absolutely adorable together. Their competitions pushed both of them to be better, while they so sweetly looked after one another. I think I fell in love with each of them as they fell for each other. I received a complimentary copy of this book through Booksprout.
Evie is a cheerleader at the Obscure Academy. When her team loses at the cheerleader contest their leader signs them up for a team building weekend. Ceb is there with his chess squad. The two meet and are attracted to each other. They take it slow and enjoy getting to know each other. Will they be able to stick together or will the team building weekend turn into a bust. A very cute story of two hellhounds who learn more at a team building weekend. Not only about themselves but for Evie about her teammates too.

I really do enjoy this series, it’s light-hearted and fun with lots of romance.
This time it’s Evie’s turn to find her wonderful boyfriend in Ceb. Both are Hellhounds with different hobbies who hit it off straight away and find through the fun they have, they want to be together.
Sit down and enjoy this next episode in the series and re-connect with some of the wonderful characters throughout the series.

When their respective teams, cheerleading & chess, attend the same team-building weekend, Evie & Ceb hit it off immediately. Pairing up for several activities gives them the chance to get to know each other with some friendly competition. But will their connection last beyond the weekend? Another fun entry into the Obscure Academy series. These books are quick, lighthearted reads. Ms. Greenwood’s characters are likeable and multilayered giving them realism within the paranormal framework.

for once, some fun team building- without the awful trust falls and annoying questions you wish were something to drink with- like a certain drinking game
having fallen on the floor more times than was ever a good idea with my bad back, I can assure you that it is not true that someone from your team will try to catch you NOT
exercises that are really mixer activities sound awkward enough to be fun
sweet and funny as these two hell hounds learn more about themselves, each other, and negotiating life, romance and friendships with demands of work and school
I love the Obscure Academy series. It is like a college for paranormal students that range from witches, shifters, fae, reapers, trolls and everything else you can imagine. Often the one of the main characters have an unusual quirk. This book features Evie, a cheerleading hellhound shifter and Ceb a chess club hellhound shifter. Both of their groups signed up for a teambuilding weekend and that is where they meet. Together they build even a better team.

Great read! Evie went on a team building exercise with the Sapphire Sparks. She meets Ceb who is there with the chess club. They end up spending a lot of time together. They decide to trade info to stay in touch. A few mishaps but when a good thing is in front of you, your bound to hold on tight. This was a great story of knowing a good thing when you see it and see where it might take you! Highly entertaining read that I recommend.

Another great, heart-warming romance, with cheer and competition; continuing the Obscure Academy series by Laura Greenwood. Can be read as a standalone.
Evie is a cheerleader who loves competitions and crowds, but can't find love; Ceb is quieter hellhound who enjoys chess. When they both go on a team building event they find a connection and romance blossoms, but how can they make it work once they are back at the Academy?.

The Obscure Academy books are light reading. This one is particularly light hearted and meant to be fun. No deep issues, just a meet cute theme. It’s a closed door book, and some of the characters you already know from earlier books have cameos. It is certainly a book you can read as a stand-alone, and perfect when you want a light, quick read.

Ceb and Evie meet at a team building retreat . She’s with cheerleaders, him? Chess club. Polar opposites but yet the more they learn about one another the more they realise their similar in lots of ways and not just the shifter thing . They are both totally competitive and this drives them into each others arms . Very entertaining , well written and compelling.

Evie went to a team building weekend for her cheerleading team and Ceb went to team building weekend for his chess club. They got matched up and in the first event they did a bet on which team would win the different events. They played chess after camp they texted each other until her phone was broken tried to find Ceb on the message forum for the academy. They find each other again. Good book!.

Two hellhounds walk into a bar…. Sorry wrong book! Two hellhounds walk into a team building exercise, Evie, a hellhound-shifter, is a cheerleader and Ceb a fellow hellhound-shifter is in the chess club. It’s a weekend to change lives, have fun and maybe find a little romance in this sweet, cute and entertaining read. Some adventure, some drama and some challenges, it’s a wonderful light hearted paranormal romance.
I loved this super nerdy romance. Ceb and Evie meet a team building expertise they went to, Ceb for the chess team and Evie for her cheerleading squad. They were both competitive and it led to them spending more time together. I found how different their hellhounds were interesting. It was fun to see their interaction as well as others. So much to like, I recommend you read this quick fun romance. I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
When Evie's cheer squad heads to a team building camp she never imagined finding love at the same time. Ceb is part of the Chess club and is at the team building event too. Evie and Ceb are both hellhound shifters but they are different in many ways. This is a fun, shifter romance with likable characters and a happily ever after. Team Building for Friendly Hellhounds is a great addition to the Obscure Academy series. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.

Laura Greenwood writes some of the cutest short love stories. The books in the Obscure Academy are such books. You can read them at lunch or take your time and read them whenever. I thought this was an adorable summer camp type of story between two hellhounds who came from the same school, but had never met before. A cheerleader and a chess player are teamed up to learn teamwork and romance blossoms. I loved this story as it was romantic without any graphic scenes. I would highly recommend it.
