Dear Author,
[Photo 1] My name is Sin. That's what he calls me. I am a Dychiiop. We are a race of people who transmogrify into more than one form. I come from a place known as Auhin. We are a peaceful planet and people. An asteroid struck my ship, damage irreparable, mission aborted. Setting off alarms, shutting down sections of the ship along with the backups, I could do nothing but make it to safety and shift into another form and suspend while the ship spiralled out of control. My ship crash-landed on what I thought was a deserted place. I made it out with minor cuts as I made it to safety from the crash. I sat there in shock and watched my ship burn to nothing. All communications to my home planet, lost, gone. Gone was my link to everything I knew. This is the first time that I have ever felt so alone. What a strange place to be lost in. I found shelter from the elements and settled in to rest and recover. Shortly thereafter, I detected someone watching me. So close, so very close….

…I was captured and imprisoned by this man [Photo 2]. They call him Von.

[Photo 2] He is a sadistic human who continues to conduct cruel experiments on us. I am imprisoned in a place somewhere underground where the light is false. It is cold here, an unnatural cold. The experiments have left me unable to fully shift. It is too painful to be awake most of the time, too painful to sleep for the nightmares. I am in limbo. I am not alone here. I hear others. There are rooms which hold beings that are part human and something else. I do not know. I hear screams, weeping, so much pain.

There are four other humans (?) in white coats who get their orders from this Von human. I hear their whispers when he is away. They speak often of TradeCap or Sector 5. A sector where those who have genetically "Completed" end up. When you are sent there, you do not return... I miss my home, my people. I hate it here. Am I to continue to suffer a fate worse than death at the hands of this insane human? I've been on this god-forsaken planet for a few months? Weeks, who knows? How do I get out?

[Photo 3] My name is Rhys Denali Delacroix. I was born a lion shifter. I belong to an elite organization that rescues and protect shifters of all kinds. Our undercover missions infiltrate the worst offenders who otherwise have the money and means to slip under the radar and bureaucratic red tape to carry out their experiments. This is the worst I've seen yet. I wear one of the white coats. I oversee Sector 7 where Sin is housed.

The first time I laid eyes on Sin a few months ago, there was no doubt in my mind that he is to be with me. Since then I've craved Sin like my next breath. Fuck! I've never met anyone like him before. I can only watch him from afar without blowing my cover. Why now? Shit! Couldn't this happen at any other time? I've kept him in a state of suspension. I cannot bear to hear his screams. But I have to be careful. I have to find a way to keep him safe and bide my time. Von has become suspicious of my movements in the lab. He may be on to me. He's had a possessive eye on Sin from the very first day and it has been full of lust ever since.

Photo Description: [Photo 1] Half naked man, wearing only leather pants and matching wrist cuffs, with the top of his ass exposed. His hands are raised above his head, and tied. He can't escape. He has jet black hair with a stripe of white strands at his forehead, almond shaped eyes and a sweet smile. [Photo 2] A well-defined man standing in an expensive suit, with his shirt open, exposing his muscular torso. His stance is dominating, his look is threatening. His eyes are cold and his smile is sinister. He's clearly used to getting what he wants, when he wants it, whatever the cost. [Photo 3] A close-up face-only photo of a dark-skinned man, with full, beautiful lips and sky-blue eyes. His stare is captivating, crystal clear and a true window to his soul. His eyes alone tell us he is strong and honest. His eyes tell us he will defend what is right, what is his.

Sin is a story written for the event ’Love Is Always Write’. It is a science-fiction erotic story; the request was made on three photos, picturing the three main characters:

* Sin, a Dychiiop, a humanoid alien who can shift into many forms.
* Rhys, a lion-shifter, member of an elite organization that rescues and protect shifters, aiming to bring down a psychopath, sadistic human, Von.
* Von is a slave trafficker, who also harvests shifters and sells their bi-products as enhancers or aphrodisiacs.

An asteroid hits Sin’s ship, and he crash-lands on a foreign planet. Von finds him, abducts him, and makes experiments on him in order to find out how his shifting works. During the process, he develops possessive feelings for Sin.

Rhys is an undercover agent in Von’s laboratory, and immediately feels an irresistible pull for Sin. He tries to help him, to ease his pain during his torture and experimentation.

The story is interesting, but the writing style is very un-walker-y. In the first half, it’s too factual, the end is too poetic, pompous, filled with repetitions. The viewpoint is confused, jumping between the characters. The romance is a little bit rushed: I understand they are shifters, and there is bonding, and they just know that the other one is The One, but still.

There were many things I found unnecessary: for example, I could live without reading about Von's , or Sin and Rhys having .
Oh, and the name Sin was given to the main character by the antagonist, Von. Even after his (Sin's) rescue, return to his home planet, and living there for a while, the reader never finds out Sin’s real name. Why he keeps the name that was given to him by his sadistic torturer??

The way Sin had taken down Von was spectacular, though, and again, it was a very interesting storyline. Too bad the execution didn’t live up to it.

I wanted much more out of this sci-fi MM short. I have heard very good things about N.R. Walker and I figured this would be a way of seeing if her style was to my liking. I'm going to just have to try another book of hers because this was not quite up to par.

I loved the idea of a sci-fi shifter mating story but I thought the execution was a bit strange. I read Yaoi so I didn't mind that it was Yaoi-esk. What I did mind was the shifting POVs and the stilted writing style. The story didn't flow smoothly and the "bad guy" was a bit too cartoonish for my liking. I could picture him rubbing his hands together and saying "wha ha ha" while giving an evil smirk. I wanted more finesse and a deeper romantic connection.

No matter how short or how long of a story it is, Ms. Walker never fails to keep me captivated. I enjoyed this interesting mix of shifter sci-fi.
Even for such a quick read I grew attached to Sin and Rhys and was rooting they'd make it out safely!

I just have to laugh at some of the reviews for this- what do people expect from a quick story written from photo prompts, on Goodreads??? I swear, you can never please some people.

The prompt for this story is awesome, but the story itself is disappointing. There is very little character development and the "romance" relies on a mating bond in lieu of actual chemistry between the MCs. The constant POV shifts are disorienting, and the writing itself is a bit awkward. Take, for example, the following sentence:

"Restrained and sedated, Von looked over his new acquisition."

As it is worded, the sentence above appears to state that Von was restrained and confused. Given the context, however, that clearly wasn't the author's intention. There are many similarly-confusing sentences throughout the story. I had to keep rereading passages to make sure I understood the author's intended meaning. I also thought the epilogue was unnecessary, but I tend to be anti-epilogue, so that's just a matter of personal taste.

Only read chapter one.

Bad guy and other guy both think of Sin as theirs. That they own him and can do as they wish with him. Not sure what the difference between the bad guy and hero is suppossed to be since they both think the same way. I just feel bad for Sin.

The point of view changes are too much. The wording is weird.

Why do we need to read about the bad guy masturbating? What's the point of that? For that matter what's the point of this story? How long they have to be undercover? How much more evidence could they need? And only now that the creature being tortured is one of their mates do they care and want to wrap this up?

This didn't say in tags it had shifter sex. Kind of misleading IMO. The lion fucks the panther. Then the panther turns back to human who lion still fucking him before lion turns back to human.

And te writing was sloppy IMO. Very repetive. Would say the same thing a lot and repeat the same word "slowly, slowly" "Utterly. Utterly" and some stuff just didn't make sense. And the point of view changes where rapid and numerous. If the pov changes would have been flashes of light this would have had to come with a seizure warning they way they just changed every paragraph or sometimes sentence. I am not sure but I think some sentences start out Sins pov and end with Rhys' it was that bad

I really liked this book. I liked how you really get into both characters heads and know the story from both pov's. I love SciFi, so this was just a great combination of m/m and a really good fantasy adventure. The shape-shifting part of the story was really fun, especially later in the story. I would really recommend this story to anyone, it keeps you on edge about what's going to happen to Sin til the very end. Great Job!!

I wrote the prompt for this story. Got kinda worried that it would never see the light of day. Gotta work on my patience, yeah? Well, I am delighted that N.R. Walker picked this one up. I am so pleased with the results.

----Gahhh!!! Goose bumps all over. Outstanding read! You’ve captured what I envisioned from my letter. You describe Von perfectly. He has lost all of his mind.

You nailed it, fucking nailed it! YES! You gave this story life. Taken it to a totally new level. You describe this story in detail. An emotional story. A love story. I felt so bad for Sin. It’s a sad story, but with a happy ending.

Then something occurred to Rhys. "What if Von takes Sin? What if he-"

Alexis put her hand on Rhys' arm, cutting him off. "Then we have to make sure that never happens. Now that we know, now we know what he is to you, we can protect him."

Rhys finally breathed. "Next week? We'll get him out next week?"

Alexis nodded.

Rhys looked at her, then at the two other agents. "You promise we'll protect him?"

"Yes."

"Okay," Rhys said with a nod. "Next week. We get him out next week." -Sin

Teared up when I read that.

"Patience. We have all the time in the universe." -Sin

*swoons* Can’t get any deeper than that.

The way you tell it after Sin’s transformations in the containment chamber scene and how you switch from Von to Rhys talking. And what happens to Von…. Yeah! Damn, that was so good.

Some intense reading I tell ya. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole story. Oh god, I can’t even get the words to say what I mean. I just, I just, oh bloody hell! You were the perfect author to write this story. So very glad that you did. *bows* Thank you so much for writing this story.

They're trained agents who've been working in the lab for several months (so they've presumably scouted out the setup of the the place and become familiar with it) and they don't think to do something about the surveillance footage?
Or at the very least to not be caught acting suspicious on surveillance?

Working undercover and blending in with humans makes me ill sometimes when I see what humans do to creatures they don’t understand or appreciate. Torturing bodies (and souls) to find a way to mimic their abilities is sick, but apparently many people will pay enough for the results so these sickos can continue experimenting. If I hadn’t had enough already of this job to make me glad we’ll be shutting it down soon, finding him makes it urgent. He is special and unfortunately I’m not the only one who sees him that way so it’s time to do something about it. I just hope I survive and he doesn’t have to suffer anymore.
Wonderful tale from the brilliant and creative mind of N.R. Walker.

I liked the idea of this one, but found the writing style too tedious and redundant. It also annoyed me that Sin does not have a name of its own.

I wanted to like it because the plot idea is great. Unfortunately the writing style didn't work for me. The constant change of POV was confusing and interrupted any bonding with the characters.
The characters are very stereotyped: the victim is the classical damsel in distress and the evil character is so overplayed in his evilness. There is no depth in his personality, he is just a crazy, bad guy.
Not my kind of story.

I loved this story and really loved Sin and Rhys is all kinds of hot. I loved the shape shifting but I am a bit of a SciFi geek.
I really like reading different pov's because I like to know the characters thoughts behind his words why hey say something or react in a certain way.
Thank you for writing and sharing Sin's story with us.

A little too yaoi style for me. I'd prefer Sin to be a bit stronger, and more dominant.

This is definitely out of the realm of what I normally read, but once I started into it, I was hooked. But then again, every book I read by N.R. does that to me!
