A brief vignette, and one that I wrote mainly to understand Amelie and Oliver’s relationship. This was written very early on, between Glass Houses and The Dead Girls’ Dance... It was also before I’d thought about Bishop, or even much about Myrnin, although I already had the broad strokes of his character in mind. This little scene was written to help me understand how these very long-lived, somewhat disinterested characters would see these teenagers who’d defied them...and it also gives us a bit more about Shane’s father, since I was beginning to write that book and had a feeling for what was coming. The characters changed over time, developed more depth and richness and personality, but I think the outlines are there in this story, and the sense of their long view of things. This was originally posted as part of the Captain Obvious ‘hidden content’ on the Morganville website.
I feel as though this one would do much better being stuck as an epilogue at the end of book one instead of being labelled as Amelie’s story.
Honestly, it is nothing more than a little conversation between Amelie and Oliver regarding the members of the Glass House. Nothing more, nothing less – in short I’m not even sure why it is called “Amelie’s Story” when it doesn’t really tell her story at all.
Definitely could’ve and should’ve been more about Amelie herself. Though can tell she’s got an interest in the Glass House residents that was proven over and over again in the main books. It’s a shame we didn’t get her true backstory.
I liked this extra piece from Amelie's point of view! She is such an interesting character because she does both kind and horrible things and you never know which is coming! I would love to read even more of her story....
It was really interesting to get a little glimpse from Amelie's point of view, and she seemed different to what I expected! Really interested to see how she evolves during the course of the series now!
An ineffectual short - wish it tied to Sam or another situation that mattered more. Also, that it had been numbered so I would have read it closer in line with the plots and not out of order
This really was a short story of maybe 4 to 5 pages. I wish it would have been longer since I find Amelie from what little has been introduced about her in the first two books quite interesting. We don't know much about her. We don't know how old she is, how she came to become a vampire or why Morganville is so important to her.
Amelia's short story - too short to be considered as a story. Barely any info, just showing a soft side of her protecting Michael, Shane, Eve and Claire. Also, there's something special about Shane's lineage. Can't wait to find out about it.
Dissapointed. Because i thought it will be a story of Amelie 's journey from start to the point where she established morganville as a Vampire town. But It was interesting to see Amelie 's POV in this certain situation that took place long before in the series.
Note: This short can be found in Midnight Bites by Rachel Caine.
This is a super short exchange between Amelie and Oliver that served to:
-remind us of the struggle for power between these two and who holds more -introduce information about Shane's family, particular his mother and his father -remind Oliver that Claire, Eve, Shane, and Michael are under Amelie's Protection and therefore cannot be harmed or manipulated
This book is a good bridge from one book to another as it closes the gap between the finding of the book and Shane's father's arrival. But it really is super short. I see that many are saying that it doesn't provide any new information, but I don't necessarily feel the same. I think there is plenty of new information in the 5-ish pages provided in this story, the most interesting being that Amelie is shown to have feeling and emotional depth because we get to read her thoughts, and that is substantially more than what I knew about her before this point.
What we do NOT get is Amelie's backstory, so this is perhaps one of Amelie's stories, but not Amelie's story (like some of us were probably thinking).
I enjoyed this one. I like Amelie (so far)! Not altogether impressed with Oliver (so far). I'm new to this series and reading the books and shorts in order.
Amelie's Story is a short story in The Morganville Vampires Series by Rachel Caine. This short story is Amelie's story and told from her point of view and is very short. Amelie has retrieved the book and she discusses her protection over Michael, Eve, Claire, and Shane. Oliver points out that Shane 's mother was immune to mind control and they need to keep an eye on him. Amelie shows us that she cares for the teens in the Glass house more than she lets on.

Amelie is hard to read. So you spend a lot of time hating her, then liking her...before hating her again.
Oliver, however, I just can't stand. He grates on my nerves and annoys the hell out of me.
This was a nice, short tale showcasing the struggle between Amelie and Oliver. As well as her own inner struggle. She's awesome at being the Ice Queen in front of everyone, but there's so much more to this enigmatic vampire.
I have read better short stories; I didn't feel like this has given me a glimpse of how the series might turn, and I found the title misleading, because I didn't really see how this showed us more of Amelie. It was a fast read, though, so there wasn't any disappointment, but I wanted more depth. I guess it is expected of Amelie's short story to be a little detached and numb, if I may call it so. Read the whole series. No regrets.
I liked getting to know Amelie a little better but I wish this would have had a little more background info on her. She is always so mysterious in the books and it is hard to tell sometimes what she is thinking and feeling and the reason behind some of her choices, especially concerning Claire and the gang.
A short story about Amelie thought it was good but thought it could of gave us more information about her past like her relationship with Oliver and Sam. The relationships are mentioned in the series but no information is really given. So was slightly disappointed when this did not give me the information xxx
I enjoyed the little meeting and getting to see Amelie's thought process, but I do think this could have been an epilogue to book one or a prologue to book two instead of a separate book/novella. That aside, it was interesting and well written and does give a little bit of insight into the character. I just wish there was more to make it a fuller novella.
This happens really early on in the series. It was great to see Amelie reigning so completely again. She, the town, and "the children" have been through so much since this took place. This give a glimpse of Amelie & Oliver's relationship. Just a tiny taste, but a good taste.
I do like Amelie's character she is poised and true, as true as a vampire can be at this stage. It is interesting to see a short story from her point of view to learn more about the kind of character she is.
A little short about Amelie and Oliver after the events of the first book. I'm still having a hard time figuring out Amelie and is friend/foe relationship with Oliver.
Nice little behind the scenes story between Amelie and Oliver. Gives you a little of more about what Amelie thinks. Wish there was more to read about Amelie.
