I know what you’re thinking. I KNOW! Why? Why did I do … okay, I’ll avoid spoilers, but I hear the question a lot. Well, this story doesn’t answer that, unfortunately, but it does show a little bit of Sam’s history and character. I do plan to write, in detail, a story of Sam and Amelie, and how their romance came to be … but I’m not quite ready yet. This is a little piece of character study that I did to help understand Sam in my mind – who he was, what he felt, how he related to the other characters around him. And if you’re asking WHYYYYY … I can only say that Sam told me it was the right thing to do. Would I do it again? Probably not, because at the time, I didn’t know that we’d continue Morganville for so many more books, and reach so many more readers. But choices get made, and there’s no going back. I think Sam would say that, too.
Myrnin is without a doubt my favourite character in the series, yet it is safe to say that Sam is my second favourite.
As with the short story with Myrnin I felt somewhat cheated by what we’re given. Whilst it is nice to know more about Sam this seems to be nothing more than a list of how his life played out: event one, followed by event two, and so on.
Again, there could have been more but it was still nice to get some details.
Rachel wishes she hadn’t killed Sam off; she didn’t know how many books she’d end up writing. I also wish she hadn’t killed Sam off. Probably one of the most normal and well rounded beings in M-Ville.
First of all, in my opinion the guy in that picture shouldn't be Sam. To me, he looks like Myrnin, I imagine Sam to have reddish, slightly cropped hair. But the guy in that picture IS Myrnin - exactly how I imagined him.
It's in the POV of Sam Glass, Michael's grandfather. It might be a brief glimpse into his (somewhat sad) life and death in Morganville, but it packs his history into a very precise story.
I also liked seeing a different side of Amelie. It seems that she's in total control of her emotions--even when in love.
I thought Amelie and Sam's story would have been more then what this story tells. But nevertheless it was a really good short story about them. It was good to know more about Sam and how he was before he changed. And it was good to know about the back story of him and his family.
While there isn't a lot of depth to this extra (it kind of reads like a time line), Sam Glass's "memoir" adds depth to his character and provides a glimpse into another facet of Amelie.
A must read for all who love the character Sam Glass. :)
Sam was talked alot about in the series but you didn't know much about his story. This short story helped you to know more about him and how he come to love Amelie and plus you get introduced to Michael.
Sam is one of my favorite characters other than The Glass House Crew... I knew he was close to Michael,b ut it was never said how close. I loved this glimpse!
Sam has always been one of my favorite secondary characters so I absolutely loved his story. Makes me sad to think we won't get anymore from him though.
This should be a good one, to see a little more of the history of Morganville.
Interesting to think that even in the 40’s and 50’s they had ”Protectors”
Poor Sam, widower with a newborn at 21. I couldn’t even imagine. Then we have Steven about to have a baby too….cute little Michael…
I really liked reading Sam’s short story. Gave us a little more background of Sam and also of Amelie. She is such a hard one to read and understand. Also the little fact that Michael is on the way :)
I understand we're not getting a full on novel but damn! She couldn't give us a scene where we read Sam and Amelie interacting with each other? I feel like this short story only gave us cliff notes on their relationship. And a short run down on Sam's life. I was expecting more and am disappointed we didn't get to see what made them fall in love with each other.
This short story provided us with some information on Michael's grandfather, Sam in his human life and how or why he was turned to be a vampire. If it weren't because of this book, I wouldn't know about Michael's grandma died giving birth to his dad, and how Sam and Amelia first met.
I loved Sam from the first moment and never got over the sad story of him... it made me cry so much. I'm happy here is a little "happy story" about him
Loved that we got Sam's story, even though it hurt a little bit! I was dreading this story from the time I read the synopsis, because yeah, it didn't sound good for Sam!
