In this 6th volume we’re introduced to new characters (we finally meet the other Kings and they’re as terrifying as they look like!), new conflicts and everything was settle down for the new arc.

Since Silver Crow was infected with the Chrome Disaster armor, all the kings agree to have a meeting, to discuss what is going to happen with him: they can erase him from the game, or find a solution to ‘vaccinate’ him.

Uiui Shinomiya, a 9 y/o girl, also known as Ardor Maiden in the Accel World, comes into the picture. She used to be an important member of the Nega Nebulus, but 2 years ago, when the Black King beheaded the Red King, the legion fell apart, and she was among them. Not because she wanted to leave, but because, there are some other creatures that are guarding a temple.

These creatures, or so called gods, can be defeated (they’re like a final boss inside a game). But, the old elite team of Nega Nebulus made a mistake and now her body was trapped in a loop where every time her avatar woke up, she died immediately.

So, Shinomiya also meets Haru in the real world, and the new Nega Nebulus plans another mission to rescue her –she’s an important piece of the team, and that’s because her unusual avatar has the ability to cleanse Haru’s avatar. But, as you can imagine, even if they only know each other for a couple of days, their new friendship is something people should not take lightly.

I really liked this volume, ‘cause like I said, all the pieces are fitting together to build a more complicated system. I like the way my favorite characters are growing and how they’re learning how to become stronger, but also how to deal with their scars in real life. That’s the beauty of it.

The Accel Word is a game that uses your fears as a weapon against others, so it’s accurate to say that the more you fear, the more you are hurt, the more you’re powerful. But the big question remains: what will happen when someone gets to level 10?

I can’t wait to keep on reading the next volume!

I think I may be done with this series. I'm finding it more and more difficult to care about the characters and their obsession/addiction with their game. Maybe I'm just getting to be cranky, but Reki Kawahara just doesn't have the chops to keep me engaged in this world.

Accel World v6 starts immediately after the Rust Jigsaw incident at the Space Elevator that opened the eyes of the greater Brain Burst userbase to the possibilities of the Incarnate System. Immediately we are presented with the fallout surrounding that incident including the beginnings of a mass produced way to induce the development of the Incarnate System in most users using ISS Kit items, the way the Seven Kings of Pure Color decide to handle the game breaking potential of the knowledge of the Incarnate System, and finally the handling of the dreaded and malicious Armor of Catastrophe, Chrome Disaster, that possesses Silver Crow.

In numerous ways, the volume starts with such interesting potential that one would think most of this would be covered in great detail and potentially resolved, however, as is the case with many Accel World volumes, Kawahara ends up introducing new characters and issues that sort of push major plot points to the background. Though, we can never ding him for it, for in all cases the new plot brought up ends up tying into the major plot in potentially unforeseen ways. For example, the new character, the Ardor Maiden Utai, is initially presented as an elementary schooler who reaches out to Umesato Middle School to take care of the her school’s pet Horned Owl, but eventually we find out that she is not only a friend of Kuroyukihime, but was one of the elements in old Nega Nebulus, and, not only that, has the ability to destroy the ISS Kit items…so…yeah. I enjoyed the way this happened and the deeper details she provided to not only Kuroyukihime, but to ICMB (Fuuko), and the other slowly being revealed additional elements.

For the major plot, I enjoyed how we were able to meet many of the other kings in the beginning conversation. I like it because we were able to see old faces again (Yellow Radio FTW!!!!) but also new faces who probably have some role to play in future events. I also liked how the plot led us to finally go back to the Unlimited Neural Field and discover new details surrounding how the game works there, need I say unlimited enemy kill?! Exactly, epic. And for a gamer, I loved that there is a location in the game that people need to work together for to access and that this area requires tight cooperation to survive against Legendary Enemy classes. Shame the artwork didn’t seem to hold up well to truly show us the might of the enemy this volume.

Overall this volume provided an excellent path forward for the series. I like how the Acceleration Research Society continues to lurk in the background, how we see that people unite to protect Silver Crow post Chrome Disaster, and how we learned more about Nega Nebulus. What stands to be seen is how all of this will be handled by current Nega Nebulus, and ultimately, what and where are Silver Crow.

Awesome.

A frustrating entry where it feels more like they're just sewing seeds for the next few arcs without cohering things into any kind of a fulfilling volume on its own. They are good seeds, like the Incarnate System kits being a nice play on street drugs, giving too much power to inexperienced players who quickly lose control, or setting up the castle with the four guardians (and handy past party members who will likely be systematically freed). The new character of Utai is as frustrating as she is compelling. Compelling because exploring how this technology can have real world applications as a work around for her verbal aphasia is a well done piece of world-building, as is her past with the team having fallen apart when another of Kuroyukihime's over-reaching ambitions went sour and backfired on her friends. The frustration is due to this series still being aimed at lolita fetishists, with new characters going younger and younger, and being stuck in Haruyuki's head as he simultaneously feels a paternal protectiveness to this younger girl, while also constantly ogling her legs and neck and lips. SHE'S NINE YOU ASSHOLE. To see Kawahara's idolization of adolescent attractions sink even lower to pre-adolescent levels is just gross, and whether it's speaking to his own predilections or is just there to appease a base audience, it continues to lessen a work that remains otherwise interesting in the social systems and atypical relationships it's exploring. And the art continues to be junk, focusing more on loli panty shots than awkward glimpses at the more interesting action of the virtual world.

Took me forever to get through this one. I always seemed to find reasons to put it down and read something else. So why does it still get 3-stars? Well, as much as it wasn't fast paced or even an easy read for me -- I liked the world building and the setup for the future. But it isn't going to get more than 3-stars. I liked it, but I did not love it.

Let's put it this way, when choosing things to re-read in my life, this book will never be among those that I pick, but I am not sorry to have read it once.

Not much happens on this one, just world building and character development. Sets up events for the next book nicely. End on a cliffhanger, better have book 7 handy :D

I would say this volume was so long. In Accel World series, this is my second volume . Because I first watched the anime. It is disappointing, but I would rather say this volume was very slow. But yeah, this volume has character developments. This volume is the first book in Armor of Catastrophe arc. This volume also has some new information. And also some information about Unlimited Neutral Field. I am always happy when I get to know these new information. As the afterward of volume 5, Reki Kawahara kept his promise and introduced a new character. Well, I also got connected to this character. And also this volume proves us why Brain Burst is so important to it’s players. We also got some info about the fall of old Nega Nebulus. This volume was slow. But it grasps us at the end of the volume.

Happy reading.

loved it, although hate waiting for the next volume after cliffhanger endings. Was not expecting a new character, but is a good addition, even if a little convenient in the goal of purifying Crow
