This book is a short story reader often read in Canadian High Schools. Having come across it again, I decided to read it cover-to-cover. I did enjoy it and the stories averaged out a 2.60 rating from me, which rounds off to 3 stars. Some were excellent and some poor.

The book is divided into 5 sections, with 4 to 5 stories per section.
The sections are called "Life or Death", "Folly", "Anguish", "Of the Heart" finally ending with "And Beyond". The section on stories of Anguish is the weakest, while the section on stories Beyond (unusual and sci-fi) is the strongest.

The 2 outstanding stories in the book are:
First Confession
Wanda Hickey's Night of Golden Memories
which have also been published individually.
City of Yesterday is also quite excellent, and a smidgen bellow the quality of the 2 above.

If you've gone to High School in Canada, you surely have read at least some of the short story selections from this book, OR from its progenitor by the same 2 editors called Strawberries And Other Secrets.
