Three stars only because it was short.

Michael Palmer should never write short stories. Why? He could have fluffed & filled out this story so well as a novel. It seemed as though I had ordered a sample & I kept looking for the rest of the book to purchase.

Intro to Palmer

Good pacing and character building. Dialog is just enough to keep the story moving. Makes me want to read more

A well constructed murder mystery short story. A tale from Dr. Lou Welcome's early days.

They were known as Los Tres Medicos.

Gabe Singleton, Paul Brosnan, and Lou.

There's a celebration going on as Paul Brosnan is about to assume the office of Chief Medical officer from current holder Dr. Annabelle Stern when the police interrupt to arrest Brosnan. Someone had reported him for dealing drugs and in his locker at the hospital was found a significant amount.

Things go downhill fast for the three friends. Lou is offered the job instead and rumors float that he planted the drugs to get the job. Paul is pissed at him and Lou says he won't take the job under the circumstances.

he goes to Gabe for help(the story is told in first person from Gabe's point of view). He wants Gabe to talk to Annabelle and find out if she's spreading rumors.

They have a history together that Lou broke off months ago that Annabelle didn't take well. Gabe goes to where he's sure she located. On Call-6, a room more for assignations between staff members than anything medical. He finds a murdered Annabelle.

His friend Lou is soon arrested for the murder, his DNA found in scrapings under her fingernails.

Gabe wants to believe his friend innocent, but had noticed scrapes on the back of Lou's hand that he had dismissed as done by lab rats he's working with.

He slowly pieces it all together to find the real killer and likely the one who framed Paul.

Liked this one.

I am a huge Michael Palmer fan. That said, I was left slightly disappointed with this one. We were going along great, I was loving every moment and suddenly it was over. Murder solved, end of story. What? I wasn't done yet and I definitely wanted more. It just ended way too abruptly. But I'm definitely excited to read Political Suicide! :-)

Dr. Palmer delivers again !! This short story involves 3 doctors tangled in a web of drug dealing, adultery, and murder !! A very quick read at about 30 pages, 5 stars out of 5 for Dr. Palmer on this short story. Pick it up if you get a chance, it's a neat little piece.

So, imagine the cast of Grey's Anatomy and then there's a murderer amongst the group. That's about the premise of this short story, but it somehow lacked the pacing or intrigue required of such a tale.

Short and punchy. I enjoyed it but feel a few more twists would have made it better. Good read as always from Michael Palmer.
