My Review:
I will try to keep this spoiler free for the previous books too, best I can. I started with Dead Awake, then Dead Faint, now its Dead Hunter. We start this one in the mind of a young Vampire hunter, who gets these vibes, or feelings, when Vampires are near her. Arie is her name and I find it is interesting that she gets this vibe when approaching a park, that has a pretty blonde who is pregnant and another women with a child, and her vibes are strong, but she sees no vampires (or so she thinks) and vows then and there, not to let anything happen to the 2 women and the child (who by the way, are vampires, the child is one of the rare pregnancies that was a success, and another on the way, (from the previous book Dead Faint) So if you read the others, you will conclude these ladies are Dovey, and BJ and Dovy's child. I found it funny that Arie wants to protect them, but not knowing that they are where she gets her vibes. Then she meets Jonas , the hot vampire doctor, and she likes him alot, right away, and of course at this point I have a feeling where its going. I decided this book will be more about Jonas and his special someone, who may be Arie, I wont tell, lol.
Arie finds herself in danger, and do you think Jonas will be able to help her? You will have to find out.
I really love how these books are like a continuation on each previous books, BUT not in a way that if you say skipped one, you would be fine. As each book does have the reappearance of the characters from the others, but it will concentrate the main story on the new additions. Like the first, was more Dovey and Aarons story, the 2nd was BJ and Daniels story, but Daniel was in the first one too, and of course Dovey and Aaron are in the 2nd and this one as well.
Overall all the books so far, are witty, fun, and exciting. True Blood fans will love them, as I had said before. Also has that fun of the Night Huntress series I love so much.
These are NOT for YA, they are adult books for sure.
I wont say more on the story , as it would spoil way too much. Lets just say, its an enticing read, and you need to read what I mean for yourself. Very well written books, lots of promise for this author.
Note: I was given a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
If you didn't know already, I am currently digging into this series of shorts by Leaf, and I have thus far been impressed by what I've read! After I had completed reading and enjoying Dead Faint more than I had expected, I immediately moved to the next in the series, Dead Hunter. Once again I have not been disappointed, and I was happy that there seems to be am emergence of more plot than its predecessor. As a baddy steps out of the dark lending some purpose and a cohesion to come.
The main female character in this short is Aerie. AerieAnne Hews is in the spotlight as the tough girl vampire hunter. It's covered in the summary, but she has been a bit confused lately as her normally on-the-spot vampire detection instincts seem to be on the fritz. Everything she has ever been taught about vampires is that they are evil and need to be exterminated. But,in this group of vamps it's almost as if they are a normal family, people she would even consider friends. Something just isn't clicking into place.
Jonas Nickels PhD(if you've read the previous parts of the series you've met him before)is our main male character this time around and Aerie's match. He cannot seem to keep himself reigned in when it comes to Aerie, this girl he's just met. It goes against his every promise to himself to stay away from a human as a mate. But there's something about her that keeps him interested and he's having a more difficult time talking himself out of it with each encounter.
Overall the story was enjoyable, if a bit more serious than the previous. As new plot unfolds I was happy to go along with the flow not being jarred out of it at any point. Leaf again writes a cast of characters which amuses me greatly! They're each colourful, characterized well, and consistent. We get to revisit characters we met in the previous books, and in doing so there's more facets to discover of them as we learn about the new players on the scene. The best part for me however, was the fact that we got to meet a solid bad guy. Bub was an excellent character for me, someone to truly dislike and bring all of the cast together and give them a purpose. I wonder if this is a true taste of things to come, taking this out of a more romance-y supernatural slice of life series to an action adventure series instead? If so, I sincerely look forward to reading as Leaf takes us through this universe she's created.
This part gets 4 stars, though it's less fun and silly than the last, it is still enjoyable. I'm not going to continue to gripe about the length, just pretend that it's an ongoing sadness I hold. Please give this series a try if you are into any of the things mentioned above interest you. I doubt you'll regret it. I certainly don't!
Where do I start? Loved, loved, loved Arie and Jonas’ story. Again, Lizzie has done it again with her humor, dialogue, twists and turns on characters that are genuiune, people that I would like to know and hang out with. Dead Hunter is the story of a vampire hunter that falls in love with a vampire. Fairly common paranormal troupe right? In fact, I though of Buffy the Vampire Slayer when I first met Arie. Funny thing about the fairly common paranormal troupe…Lizzie puts a complete different spin on it and throws Demons in the mix.
Arie reminded me of a grown up Buffy. She is still a bad ass in the hunting department but yearns for a man to make her toes curl…someone to fall in love with. Did she think that she would fall for a vampire? Nope, she was trained to kill them, not love them. When she meets Dovey and BJ at the park, little did she know that one event would set off a series of events that would change her life forever. Arie is a well written character. I felt her confusion when she is confronted with the truth about her new friends. Her horror sent shivers up my spine when she saw her life as she knew it crumble around her. She was sympathic but strong.
Jonas was the hero that I love in romance books. Sexy, a doctor (I’m a sucker, so sue me) and a vampire with a moral compass. Just because he “undead” doesn’t make him sparkly, mean or on a path of vengence. He’s the good guy that is there for his friends and Arie when they need him. Okay, plus the girlie bits tingled too. The author made him human for me on a scale that most paranormal writers don’t do for me. His wit and able to difuse a situation, no matter how uncomfortable are a great edition to the story.
The final confrontation is thrilling. I wasn’t sure if I was going to cry for Arie and want to hug her or come out swinging. Let’s just say that Satan makes an appearance and with a line of dialogue, he made the situation plausible and in some ways…comforting.
I strongly suggest that you pick this series up and read it. Devour it and discuss amongst your friends. Word of caution…these books can be read as stand alones but I would read them in order. You get a much better feel for the characters and how they interact with each other and the situations around them.
*I received this book as part of a blog tour for a fair and honest review*
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Now, I already reviewed the second book in the series (look under DEAD Faint). I would recommend reading it first since I do talk about it here and I’m not going to add what I’ve already written to this review.
I loved this book! So far, most of the focus has been on vampires, but now demons and hunters enter the equation. I liked getting to learn more and meeting some villains that will definitely help this series along.
As for the characters, I liked ArieAnne. She was an okay character for me. I did like getting to see a kickass female hunter, but for some reason, I just didn’t click with her. Same with Jonas. Part of it I think is tied into a complaint I had about the previous book that carried over into this one. I do like seeing previous couples, but at times the story focused more on the secondary characters than the main ones. As I said before, just like a bride being upstaged by a bridesmaid, it's not supposed to happen. I do like that the author included these previous characters; I just think she did it a bit too much. I think if she’d focused more on Arie and Jonas, it would have helped me connect better with the characters.
However, I did like the amount of action this time. Unlike the previous book, it wasn’t all over the place. There are more details and I got the feeling that everything is happening for a reason, even if it’s not yet obvious. I liked the evil preparing to take over the world storyline, which is going to continue on in future books supposedly. I liked how the author established this continuity that will help tie the books together more in the future.
Also, I’ve noticed something that’s been nagging at me since the last book. While there are romances in all the books, the focus doesn’t seem to be on the romance. I would classify these books as thrillers or adventure books over romances. I do like having more than just the romance, but as time goes on, I’m starting to care less about the romantic outcomes and more about the fight for survival against evil.
Anyways, I would definitely recommend reading this series and yes, you do need to read it in order so that it makes sense.
The next installment in the "Dead" series by Lizzie T. Leaf, "Dead Hunter", is darker than the first few books but regardless, it is still a fun, sarcastic, dramatic & sometimes terrifying glimpse into Ms. Leaf's amazing vampire world. We meet the ferociously strong & beautiful ArieAnne, a trained vampire hunter who's life is about to start changing faster than she can keep up, especially once she meets Jonas Nickels, a sexy doctor...and a vampire... With that set-up, we know things are gonna go for a fun ride! And wow... Do they ever!!... ArieAnne's whole world is being tipped upside down when she finds out that there is a world involving scary creatures other than vampires... And also, she's finding out that all vampires aren't bad... She is still stunned when she realizes that she is quickly falling for the handsome vampire doctor.. But before she can look too deeply into the attraction, her life is suddenly in danger from a threat she didn't expect.. Can Jonas help ArieAnne with her views on the new world of vampires and demons, and show her that she will be safe falling in love with him or will the horror that's stalking her, steal her life before he can help her? As always, Lizzie has me captivated with her newest book. If you love the world of vamps, with a little sarcasm and some hot sex scenes thrown in, you will love "Dead Hunter". Be sure to check out the other books in the "Dead" series, too! A must-read for paranormal fans! ~Vicki Rose Bitten By Love Reviews

Dead Hunter is another great book in the series, full of sarcasm and quick wit, with a few laugh out loud moments that will keep you turning the pages. This book digs farther in to the paranormal world, introducing demons and more details about the inner workings of the vampires. I can't wait to read the next book, Dead Memory.
ArieAnne Hews - Vampire Hunter. Is it possible for a vampire hunter to be friends with an entire family of vampires, let alone have a romantic relationship with one?
How can a vampire have a family, and why do they all seem so normal? Throw in the super hot Dr Jonas and she knew she was in real trouble. Torn between staking him and ripping his clothes off, she finds her whole world turned upside down with the realization that her life has been a lie. Add in a few angry demons trying to take over the world and a couple of supernatural children, and you find yourself wanting more with each turn of the page! This group of undead has her disregarding her hunter instincts in favor of her sexual needs, but will it get her into trouble? You'll have to read the series to find out!
Lizzie T. Leaf does it again with her third book in the Dead Series, Dead Hunter. Here we find out that Dovey is pregnant again, BJ and Daniel are finally married and now we meet a new character ArieAnne who has fallen pretty hard for the gorgeous Dr. Jonas Nickels. Oh, and did I mention that Arie is a vampire hunter and the good Dr. is a vampire along with everyone else. Yeah, talk about a problem.
For me this series just keeps getting better and better. I thought the first one was great, the second better and now this one is better than the last. This book is a real page turner, full of emotions and edge of your seat excitement. With every word I read I could hardly wait to see what would happen next and I have to say Lizzie never ceases to amaze me.
Disclosure Notice I received a free copy in exchange for my personal and honest review. I was not compensated in any way. All thoughts and opinions expressed herein are my own.
Wow.... Starts off strong and keeps it going....Loved it!
Arie is one butt kicking kind of gal. With all the crap that she's been handed in this story you would think she'd throw in the towel, but HECK no! Demon dad be darn she's going to get answers. Her character is just the BOMB! Total package...what vampire wouldn't want her?
I have to say as much as I loved Dead Faint (BJ Rocked), I did really enjoy how story driven this tale was. Demons trying to take over, girl hunter falls for vampire...Classic!
Truly, still torn over the best part, Satan coming for Bub or the girls freaking Dovey out right at the special moment for Arie and Jonas.....Decisions ...Decisions....LOL
Full of emotion, excitement and a touch of humor Lizzie's does it again! "Dead Hunter" is another fast but fantastic read in Lizzie's "Dead" series that's just a tad darker than the rest. This is one series you really don't want to miss out on. Highly recommended for all adult thriller/paranormal/suspense readers.

Just was not my thing. Writing was not bad at all, there were no spelling errors or grammar problems, but the book was just OK,as the 2 stars here on Goodreads indicates. On Amazon it means I didn't like it so I would give it a three star rating.
