I am conducting what I'm shelving as a "New Adult (NA) Experiment". I'm going to work my way through some of the popular New Adult books and see if I can weed out the crap and hopefully find some surprising gems. Here's hoping!

This book has been disqualified from my NA experiment because it turns out that I'm not actually enough of a masochist for this shit.

I think I should just give up trying with New Adult literature. So far, the genre has offered none of the maturity or complexities of the liminal period between teen years and full-on adulthood, instead preferring what merely amount to college age erotic romances with a hefty side dish of misogyny. Indeed, the frequency with which sexist portrayals of women and relationships appear throughout works labelled New Adult suggests that the pair go hand in hand. While “Fallen Too Far” didn’t reach the despicable lows of “Thoughtless”, it did come pretty close thanks to its incredibly unsettling portrayals of women and relationships.

Let’s start with one issue this book presents that I think represents a real disconnect from the contemporary world it claims to depict. Blaire moves from Alabama to Florida to live with her father after the death of her mother, with nothing but $20 in her pocket and a rusty old vehicle. She needs a job to make enough money to get a place for herself. The book is set in 2012 America. We currently live in a world of falling living standards, rising unemployment and a widening gap between the working and middle classes. This applies not only to USA but to most of what is known as the developed world. Blaire is a 19 year old high school dropout with a GED and some brief experience in a couple of after school jobs. Within one day of moving to a completely strange place, she has a well-paying job at a country club, where she is frequently given $50 and $100 tips. She literally walks into this place, says she wants a job and is given one with barely any questions asked. This bugged me for a number of reasons, the main one being that it was insultingly unrealistic. The defenders of New Adult keep talking about how this burgeoning genre has such amazing potential to depict real-life situations that modern young people face every-day, from the personal to the political. Glines took the cheapest route possible with what could have been an interesting twist on the contemporary drama. Unemployment and money troubles are huge issues for my generation, and those stories are dying to be told, so seeing the heroine have it all handed to her so easily (and really? $100 tips?) felt like a real slap in the face. I’ve talked before about how YA and romance tend to fetishise wealth, and “Fallen Too Far” does this to some degree. While it’s made explicit to us that the country club regulars are all lecherous old men or “jealous sluts”, the designated love interest Rush is conveniently very wealthy and will never have to worry about money.

Once again, we have another New Adult book where Those Other Women fall into one camp of characterisation – bitches and sluts. If they’re not unreasonably jealous of the beautiful and perfect gun toting virgin Blaire, they’re throwing themselves over Rush or begging for sex constantly. Even side characters, such as country club worker Darla, seem to have nothing but sex on the brain, as she tells Blaire to essentially sex herself up for tips. The virgin/whore complex is rampant throughout. Every single woman in this book who isn’t the heroine is shamed in some manner, be it by the heroine herself or the men around them. It’s the laziest characterisation imaginable and it’s also horrifyingly sexist, particularly when coupled with the male characters of the story, who seem to be nothing but walking erections. Every man in this book except for Blaire’s father leers at her, openly proposition her and make it very clear what they want to do to her. Not only are women seen as objects throughout this novel, every woman aside from Blaire is portrayed as one.

Unfortunately, not even the sainted heroine makes it out of this damaging double standard unscathed. Yet again, we have another NA romance where the heroine is simultaneously infantilised and sexualised by the designated love interest. Rush is very controlling (of course), getting angry when Blaire turns down his offer of food (and of course we have another romantic hero who is obsessed with getting the woman to eat, although shudder to think any of these authors would ever portray the heroine as anything other than the stereotypical skinny size), and talking about Blaire as if she’s an object. He’s obsessed with other men touching her or wanting to touch her because apparently they don’t deserve to touch her. The book also includes the delightful line “Your pussy is mine” (to paraphrase it, I didn’t write it down for obvious reasons). The sex scenes are as awful as you imagine them to be, chock full of cringe-worthy dialogue about how hot, tight and deep the sexual experience is. You’re not drilling for oil, Rush, you’re having sex, and being “so in the moment” that you forgot to put a condom on makes you a fuckwit, not a romantic. The “romance” is more lust-based than anything else (of course), with no discernible reason given for why they’re so dramatically in love other than they’re both gorgeous (of course). It seems to come from nowhere in the beginning – Rush goes from being cold and showing absolutely no interest in his step-sister to telling her to stay away to throwing her against a wall in lust to getting angry when others flirt with her at her place of work. It was exhausting, but not as exhausting as the pathetically weak attempts at plotting, characterisation and grammar.

I don’t care if your book if self-published. If you let it out into the real world and charge money for it, there is no excuse for sloppy grammar and spelling. There weren’t just one or two slips. There were countless examples of this sloppiness. I don’t know who is editing Glines’s work, if anyone is, but it needs to be sorted out. If you want to call yourself a professional author, you need to act professional.
The dialogue is sloppy and predictable, ticking off all the expected boxes of New Adult angst and all-consuming lust (because I refuse to call what these books portray love). The attempts at ambiguity and tension fail miserably because everything is so obvious. There is absolutely no reason for any of the supposed deep dark secrets of Rush and his “bitchy” “spoiled brat” sister Nan to be kept secret. They’re kept secret solely to push forward the bare threads of a plot. The deliberate withholding of information for no reason other than it needs to be withheld for there to be a story is incredibly sloppy writing. When the “cliff-hanger” ending is revealed, we’re left with nothing but a weak excuse for a cash-in sequel.

It’s not just that this so-called contemporary romance is unrealistic and chooses the easy way out over tackling the real world issues of our generation. It’s not just that it’s badly written and terribly edited. It’s not just that there are spelling errors and misplaced punctuation and pacing issues. It’s not just that it’s incredibly sexist, romanticised yet another controlling and unhealthy relationship, all the while shaming women in a way that made my skin crawl. It’s not just that the sex scenes were a mixture of laughable dialogue, irresponsibility and sheer boredom. It’s not just all those things. It’s that “Fallen Too Far”, for all its genre in its sexism, laziness, internalised misogyny and sloppiness, is what we’ve now come to expect from New Adult literature. It exemplifies exactly why this genre has failed to meet its most basic potential. All these books, from “Fallen Too Far” to “Beautiful Disaster” to “Thoughtless”, make me feel a little bit dirty. There is something seriously wrong with normalising stuff like this as romantic and sexy. “Fallen Too Far” was detestable.

Avoid.

“Blaire, I’m not a romantic guy. I don’t kiss and cuddle. It’s all about the sex for me. You deserve someone who kisses and cuddles. Not me. I just fuck, baby.“

Aaaaaaaahhh amazing book but holy cliffhanger!
I need book #2!
Right. Freaking. N O W !
But O.M.G. I loved it!

This was my first Abbi Glines book. Ever. How I’ve managed to read this long and NOT read one of her book is a still a complete mystery too me. Her books feel almost like some sort of rite of passage as a reader. Everyone is always talking about them and now I know why!!

I absolutely loved it, cliffhanger and all! A deliciously angsty bad-boy-meets-innocent-girl forbidden romance.

It was one of those books that I pretty much inhaled in one sitting and made me get all growly whenever someone tried to interrupt me.

Half a page in and I was grinning from ear to ear and yup, everything I’ve heard about Abbi Glines’ writing is true. Its addictive and catchy making the pages just fly right by. Its funny at times but will also pull the rug out from under you in a heart beat with its twist. And its got this really easy-to-read and yet delightfully angsty feel to it!

After Blaire’s twin sister was killed in a car crash her father left their home, not even returning when Blaire’s mother died of cancer. Now, with no money, no home and no where else to turn, Blaire is sent to live with him and his new wife. But when she shows up he's run off to Paris and instead is her new step-brother….. Rush Finlay.

Rush was just absolutely delicious. With silver eyes, tattoos and a tongue piercing, he pretty much just oozed sex appeal. Add that to his cocky yet charming, hot/cold, mysterious, man-whoring bad-boy attitude, and how protective he got of Blaire the more he fell for her and you’ve really got quite the recipe for yum. I just love that kind of character. Makes my heart flutter every time.

“You don’t want to know me. You may think you do but you dont. I promise.”

But holy introduction! Literally, the first few times we see him, he’s having sex. Each time with a different girl!! He goes through girls like water, but yet he won’t touch Blaire. He wants her with every fiber of his being but doesn’t feel worthy of her. And he’s holding a big secret that could tear them apart if Blaire finds out.

“I can’t touch you. I want to so damn bad it hurts like a motherfucker but I can’t. I won’t mess you up.”

The whole set up just gave the book that wonderful angsty feeling that makes you desperate for answers. Are they? Will they? Wont they? AND WHAT WAS THE BIG SECRET??? ohhhhhhhh I just needed to know!!

Blaire was such a likeable heroine. No matter what life threw at her, she was the type of girl who would find the silver lining and work through it. I loved her can-do attitude to everything. On one hand, she was this sweet yet naive, oh-so innocent country girl and on the other she was this tough-as-nails chick who’d really been put through the ringer by life but didn’t let it get her down. Oh, and she actually pulled a gun on someone. Twice!! Yeah, pretty hard not to like her

I loved watching them fall for each other. It wasn’t smooth – no insta-love here. But the more time they spent around each other, the harder it was to deny the pull they both felt. And when they finally gave in, oooooh I felt it! I loved it! I loved them together. And holyyyy can Ms. Glines ever write a kiss! Yeah… I’m totally addicted!

“Don’t go getting shy on me now. ‘Cause baby, before the night is over you will be naked in my bed.”

I enjoyed this book right from the start – it probably was sitting at a very happy 4 star rating but somewhere around 70% suddenly my heart was just POUNDING and I couldn’t flip the pages fast enough. Definitely a 5 star feeling if you know what I mean!

I mean… OHHH MYYY GODDD!!!!!

The bedroom!!

The party! Gah! and she wasn’t… but he was… and then… just.. ohhh the angst!

And then the snail tray thing and his reaction!

Ooooo then the “test me” thing… *SHIVERS*

Then “Mine. This is mine.”

The big reveal!! Gah! My heart just broke!!!!

And then the CLIFFHANGER!!!! I kept flipping the last page over and over again as if somehow it would magically make more words appear!

I NEED THE NEXT BOOK! Now now NOWWWWWW! But ooohhh I loved this one! I really did! So much!!

“His eyes never left mine. I held his gaze. I could see the storm in his eyes. I knew he was confused. I could even see the fear. Then there was the love. I saw it. The fierceness in his eyes. I believed it. I could see it clearly. But it was too late now. The love wasn’t enough. Everyone always said that love was enough. It wasn’t. Not when your soul was shattered.”

I really think fans of "Beautiful Disaster" will love this book.

Abbi Glines, once my heart recovers, you have yourself a new fan!

Now I know a lot of you want to know about the cliffhanger. Yes, I’ll be honest, its brutal. (No, it has nothing to do with cheating.) But I’ll live. Ok, I may be biting my nails until the sequel “Never Too Far” come out on March 12th, but I’m really happy I read this book. It was a quick read and definitely became a fav. I can’t wait to read the rest of Blair and Rush’s story!

4.5 – 5 stars!!

*4 Stars*

Fallen Too Far was an addictive read! The story picked up momentum immediately and never once faltered in its intensity.  Abbi has done an amazing job in taking a commonly used, but highly sought after plot—sexy bad-boy meets innocent virgin good-girl—and transforming it into something unique and genuine.

After having lost everything important to her, Blaire reluctantly heads to her estranged father's house in search of shelter while she gets her life back on track.  What she encounters there instead is a sexy, arrogant step-brother and a  buried secret that will rock the foundation of her very world, once revealed.

Blaire and Rush have a smoldering connection that becomes evident instantly. Once again, this author proves that she can create and sustain sexual tension like no other—and the steam factor is off-the-damn-charts incredible! With many romance novels, I find that the numerous love scenes tend to become over-played and monotonous—doing nothing to enhance the actual story. The opposite is true for this author; her scenes are fun and fresh, wonderfully descriptive and uncontrollably toe curling!

The plot twist was an interesting and surprising addition. I always love when a story can throw a curve ball that I didn't see coming and I appreciated how this bend in the plot was tackled; believable and not over-the-top.

Everyone always said that love was enough. It wasn't. Not when your soul was shattered.

A lot of readers are worried about this story's cliffhanger and I can only speak for myself when I say that it's an understandable one and doable, for the most part. That said, I'm very happy that wait for book two will soon be over! Very sweet and sexy read!

“I’m from Alabama. I own boots, tight jeans and a gun,” ~Blaire

 photo f70193c1-1cc5-4887-8965-85601efa25ea_zps7ee6e160.jpg

Blaire has experienced lost on every level and with her mothers recent death she finds herself in need of her fathers help. The one person she has come to not be able to rely on in her life. Her dad walked out on her and her mother years ago. But you know the old adage desperate times call for desperate measures. And right now Blaire is desperate.

After her mothers death she had to sale everything of value including her grandmothers home in which she lived in Alabama.

Her father has since remarried and moved to Florida. Once Blaire arrives at his new home she is surprised by what she finds; and by who she finds. Rush. Blaire had no clue that she had a stepbrother. She also had no clue that her dad was living it up in a swanky beach house with his new wife and stepson. But that's not the kicker... The kicker that leaves her even more bewildered is when she finds out that her dad is out of the country with his wife. When he knew damn well she was on her way to see him.

Rush is not at all very welcoming to Blaire. He puts her in a room under the stairs that is used by the maid. He makes her feel as if she is of no importance and that he must deal with her until he hears from her dad. But Blaire has her own plan. Get a job then get the hell out of the beach house as soon as humanly possible.

Rush is a playboy. The son of a rock star and he lives out his role to the fullest. Though Rush may play cool he is not however as immune to the sweet and innocent Blaire as he led her believe. In fact she get's completely under his skin.

“You aren’t what I expected. I wish you were. It’d be so much easier,” ~Rush

 photo c390b9a4-9f7a-4a6d-8f1f-e07460ff8aa1_zpsbc8c121f.jpg

"The innocence in your eyes screams at me. I want to peel every inch of your clothing off and bury myself inside you but I can’t." ~Rush

And although her tries to fight it..he can't.

“I don’t want you under those damn stairs. I hate it. But I can’t move you up here. I’ll never be able to stay away from you. I need you safely tucked away,” ~Rush

And as much as Blaire tries to fight her attraction to Rush she finds it damn near impossible to not want him. In. Every. Way.

'I needed to find someone else to focus on. Someone that wasn’t Rush. Someone that was available. It was the only way I was going to keep from falling too far.' ~Inner monologue of Blaire

Rush holds back and Blaire starts to get the feeling that he has secrets. Soon Lines are crossed as they give in to temptation.

 photo 44842e22-f0f4-4b21-a93d-c7b98b0df99d_zpsdba0b27b.jpg

"I don’t know what this is that is going on between us but from the moment I laid eyes on you I knew you were going to change my world. I was terrified. The more I watched you the more you drew me in. I couldn’t get close enough.” ~Rush

When the truth finally surfaces from the secrets Rush has kept....
ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE.

My Thoughts
This book left me emotionally spent. I loved Blaire she was so sweet and kickass at the same time. She was beautiful inside and out and I think that is one of the reasons why Rush could not help but fall in love with her.
The writing was good. The story had a great build to the final scene. The pacing was natural and the romance was SO TASTY. The story also had great secondary characters. I found Woods, Grant and Bethy very entertaining.

Dear Readers
I gave this book 4 stars because it held my attention, gave me lot's of angst, a sexy romance, great secondary characters and a finale that will leave you STUNNED. If you enjoy mature YA and/or NA then this book is for you so READ IT!

2.5 stars. I didn't love it, but I certainly didn't hate it, either.

One of my main gripes about this book was the horribly bad editing. It was distracting and took away from the story. And the writing style certainly didn’t help. It was a little pedestrian, if I’m being honest. There were missing commas, run-ons, and sentences that read awkwardly enough to give me pause.

Don’t even get me started on the difference between action tags and dialogue tags, and how to properly punctuate them. You can’t speak an action. A period is needed as a separator between the action and the dialogue, not a comma.

Moving on.

I felt like there was far too much telling and not enough showing. Show me, don’t tell me, as the saying goes. I could’ve done without all the internal musings, especially when Blaire would just repeat something in her mind that had already been said aloud by someone else, as if further explanation was needed. That kind of redundancy is exasperating. It’s like, yeah, I’m not stupid. I got it the first time, thanks.

Rush:

Seriously, I can’t with him. He was an asshole, a liar, and a manwhore, none of which helped to endear him to me. I just didn’t see the appeal. He went out of his way to make sure that Blaire understood that she was unwanted, that he was merely tolerating her presence. He made false assumptions about her and used those same assumptions to excuse away his atrocious behavior. He had no business pursuing anything with Blaire, not with all the secrets he was keeping. And as much as he claimed to want to stay away from her, he didn’t try very hard.

Blaire:

For a smart girl, she sure was dumb. In the beginning, I thought she was strong, independent, and kind of feisty, but all of that changed rather quickly. She became too much of a martyr. She had no backbone and was a doormat for most of the book, although she redeemed herself somewhat at the end. I just didn’t understand her attraction to Rush, and her constant fawning over his good looks was an irritant I could’ve done without. I mean, this man-child publicly kicked her out of his house on the first night she met him, but all she could focus on was how beautiful he was.

Blaire fell too hard, too fast. Their love was rushed, for lack of a better word, and felt superficial to me. It didn't make sense.

She is a beautiful damsel in distress....

But is he her knight in shining armour ??

He might be,he might not.

It does not matter because she is falling for his charms, falling for his caring side.Falling for the rush only he can give her.She is falling for this intriguing and very bad boy.

And she might just have......

.....FALLEN TOO FAR!!

--------------------------------------------------------

Now,first of all,allow me to vent my anger and frustration.....

Nan --

Can't you get rid of all the venom and see that she is innocent?

Abe --

I hate you.You are a pathetic excuse for a lover,husband and father.

Rush --

You idiot!!!Why the hell didn't you tell her all that sooner? Damn...don't worry,I still love you.

Blaire --

Damn girl,don't do this!!!

**sigh** I'm done.Sorry,I usually rant in the end,but by now nearly everyone has already read this book.So I figured it won't hurt.

------------------------------------------------------

I liked this one.And now I know why everyone raves about this.This is good.

I like that Blair is strong,independent and does not whine.Though she is a bit naive too.I can say that I admire her loyalty.But I hope she will listen to others once she calms down.

Now Rush,I am a sucker for guys like this.I mean who isn't.

Hot,bad boys with an even badder attitude!!

So,Rush Crush Club

The story was fast paced and easy to read.Though I would have appreciated a little more insight on the characters and a greater bonding with them.

---------------------------------------------------------

The Story--

Blaire is nineteen.She had devoted her life to taking care of her sick mother.Her father had left them years ago.So after her mother passes away,she is left with nothing.With no money or family,she calls her father and asks for a place to stay till she can get a job.

She arrives at Rosemary Beach,Florida.And instead of her father,meets with......her stepbrother,Rush.

And then Readers....

Eyes meet, oh my, sparks fly, heat level booms.....

As I said it's good,very good.

------------------------------------------------

And yes,I have to say that I'm lucky.....

Never Too Far is out!!

So I'm going to rush to get Rush....

That's all for now,Readers.

Ta-Ta!!

First of all, let me just get this out of my system.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!
WHAT IN THE WORLD?!!!

Okay, now that I've let it all out, off to my review...

Fallen Too Far... Hmmm... The book is as beautiful as it's cover. The story is about Blaire who after the demise of her mother, seeked help from the person who hasn't been there for her her whole life, her father. When she came to the address he sent, guess what? Her father's not there! The one who welcomed her (or not?) is Rush Finlay , her father's stepson and the owner of the house. But living with him isn't going to be easy. And thus, their story begin...

Reading this has been an emotional one. I've fallen too far and too deep...in love with this book. I admit at the first chapter, I was like Team Grant!!! Haha! He was the one who first met Blaire and I really thought there's gonna be a love triangle. He was just so sweet, the complete opposite of Rush. I don't like Rush at first but when the story progressed, he turned out to be a great person. He's a rockstar's son, he's sexy and possessive/protective of Blaire so what's not to love, right? Of course, there's a villain in the story who goes by the name of Nan who is such a BITCH, I just wanna slap her and her posse for giving Blaire such a hard time . Sometimes, it's Blaire I wanna put some sense into. On the first scene of the book when he pulled out her gun and pointed it at Grant, I was like HELLS YEAH! A badass heroine! But, reading the next chapters, I realized, she isn't that tough. I know she's been through a lot, but I just want to see her fighting back or make a snarky comebacks/comments or just be a bitch and not allow anyone to just kick her ass like that. Oh well,

Okay, moving on... I love how the story went on, at first, Rush ignoring his feelings for Blaire, but when he couldn't take it anymore, WOW!!! These two are a perfect pair! I love their moments together (and love scenes), which really showed Rush's sweet side. MAJOR SWOON FEST!!!

“You naked in my bed is even more unbelievably beautiful than I thought it would be… and trust me I’ve thought about it. A lot.”

“I thought you weren’t a cuddler, Rush,” I said as he ran his nose along my neck and inhaled loudly.
“I wasn’t. Only with you Blaire. You’re my exception,” he whispered then tucked my head under his chin and pulled the covers up over us.

“Talk. We are going to talk first. I want to see you smile and laugh. I want to know what your favorite show was when you were a kid and who made you cry at school and what boy band you hung posters of on your wall. Then I want you naked in my bed again.”

And when everything is going out so well for the couple... BOOM! The inevitable happened! Secrets and LIES have been revealed, and it was one helluva drama-filled scene. So emotional. I'm just like:

I mean, NOOOOO! I know it was bound to happen, but not like that.

It took me a long time to write this review because I still can't get over the last chapter of the book. It was just so intense and tear-jerking.

WARNING:

“He wasn’t what sent me running. He was what made me want to stay.”

Their story isn’t over…

This is the type of book you'll hate to love. You hate that it ended that way...but you still love it anyways. ;)

4.5 STARS!

Now, off to find a standalone book with an HEA to read.

This is me officially giving up on Abbi Glines' books

Rigoletto Throwing a Book Pictures, Images and Photos

Did you read that GR community?

I. GIVE. UP.

I just cannot seem to find what's so amazeballs about her books when all I find in them is just beautiful. RICH. people.

The main character, Blaire, was just so stupid I can't even decribe it. And Rush, the male lead, was so full of shit. I wanted to kick his ass during the entire book

pissed gif Pictures, Images and Photos

My God, I hated this book. I did. And nothing will change my mind.

This is just one big hot mess. Starting with Rush's mood swings that had me all mad and confused and followed by Blaire's stupidity of falling for a guy who has sex with a different girl every night. But that's the normal part of the story.

Blaire SAW Rush have sex with another gir. Like, STARED . That's normal, right?

No?

it's creepy Pictures, Images and Photos

And the ending was a big, fat WTF.

I don't really want to say too much because, you know, spoilers and all that.

4.5 ENTERTAINING BUT HIGHLY EMOTIONAL STARS.

Fallen Too Far was my very first book by Abbi Glines and I already know it won't be my last...

Blaire --

Rush --

She's a young, unexperienced girl who's been hurt more than once by the people she loved.

He's a typical bad boy...tattooed, pierced and a different girl every night.

They are each others stepbrother and stepsister and therefore a recipe for disaster... (or not).

When I first started reading Fallen Too Far I expected it to be an easy, fun story without too much drama and at first, it was just that. But then there was suddenly a highly emotional turn of events that managed to keep me hooked until the very last page. Needless to say, I was unable to put it down and ended up finishing the book in one sitting...

Fallen Too Far is the story of the nineteen year old girl named Blaire Wynn. For the past three years of her life she's been taking care of her sick mother without the help of anyone but herself. Her father left their family after Blaire's twin sister died in a car accident and he hasn't returned ever since. Now that her mother passed away and Blaire has no money left because of all the medical bills, she has no one to turn but her father...

He allows her to stay at his house in Florida but when Blaire arrives there, her father has run off to Paris with his new wife. Instead, Blaire is faced with her new stepbrother...Rush Finlay. It's immediately obvious that Rush and Blaire are from two completely different worlds; he's spoiled, a little condescending and he's used to always getting what he wants. Now all he wants, is Blaire but he also knows he might not be the right kind of guy for her...

"Blaire, I'm not a romantic guy. I don't kiss and cuddle. It's all about the sex for me. You deserve someone who kisses and cuddles. Not me. I just fuck, baby. You aren't meant for someone like me. I've never denied myself something I want. But you're too sweet. This time I have to tell myself no." ~ Rush

They try to stay away from each other as much as possible but they both know the attraction between them isn't easy to resist. And as much as Rush tries to play it cool, Blaire slowly but surely manages to get under his skin.

"The problem was that you fascinated me. I'll admit I was immediately drawn to you because you're gorgeous. It was breathtaking. Then...then I got to know you, I was hypnotized by your laugh. It was the most amazing sound I'd ever heard. You were so honest and determined. You didn't whine or complain. You took what life handed to you and worked with it. I wasn't used to that. Every time I watched you, every time I was near you I fell a little more." ~ Rush

After a while they do fall for each other. Hard. But just when things seems to be going in the right direction...Holy revelations! Secrets and lies are revealed that might shatter their entire lives apart...

"His eyes never left mine. I held his gaze. I could even see the fear. Then there was the love. I saw it. The fierceness in his eyes. I believed it. I could see it clearly. But it was too late now. The love wasn't enough. Everyone always said that love was enough. It wasn't. Not when your soul was shattered." ~ Blaire

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was fun reading how the tough guy Rush started falling more and more for the sweet and innocent Blaire. At first, I honestly didn't like his character all that much. He was just a typical bad boy who thought he was better than Blaire just because he had more money. But after a while we got to see a whole other side of him and I started to like him more and more (plus the guy was HOT, no getting around that fact...). Blaire, on the other hand, I loved her from the start. At times she was insecure and a little naïve, other times she has no problem with going to a honky-tonk or with pulling a gun on someone. Overall, they were both very refreshing and interesting characters that made reading the story even better.
As for the ending of the story, I have to warn you, it's kind of dramatic and it will leave you desperate to find out what happens next. After the book endedI just felt like "This is it?? Really...this is how it's going to end??"...
First there was disbelief -
Then there was despair -
And after that there was nothing...
Although I have to admit, it was also a good thing the story ended that way, because now I'm even more anxious to read the next part of this very entertaining series.
I can't wait to find out how the story of Rush and Blaire continues...because we already know their story isn't over yet.
"He wasn't what sent me running. He was what made me want to stay."
And I already know that for the next few days/hours, I'll be anxiously awaiting Never Too Far...
P.S.: Future readers won't have to worry about the cliffhanger anymore because the second book will be released very soon! (26 February 2013)
“The love she left behind will be the reason dreams are reached. She was the rock in a world that was crumbling. Her strength will remain. It’s in our hearts.”
4 "Alabama Girl" stars!!!
Blaire, after her twin sister and mother passed away, she's falling apart. And now her dad who abandoned her when he needed her the most, is asking her to come to Rosemary Beach and live with his new family. She doesn't want to go but she has no other choice. She needed a job, money to keep her life stable. After then she'll leave and come back to her home, her family's grave. But what she didn't know was that destiny had other plans for her life in Rosemary.
Rush, a man seeking revenge for his little sister. The victim of his revenge has now arrived to his hometown, right into his clutches. But then why does his heart flutters and his body feel like its on fire whenever his white-blond haired victim is near him. What will happen when all his secrets unravel one by one.
Is their love enough to survive all this..
We are going to talk first. I want to see you smile and laugh. I want to know what your favorite show was when you were a kid and who made you cry at school and what boy band you hung posters of on your wall. Then I want you naked in my bed again.”
I gave this a 5 star before but after rereading this I changed my mind and reduced one star. Reasons I changed my rating.
●Fucking Nan. I swear I hate this woman. She was so annoying. It felt more like Rush, Blaire and Nan's story rather than Rush and Blaire's story. This woman pop out everywhere out of nowhere.
●Rush's promise. He always promise that he love Blaire more than Nan. I know Nan is his sister and he love her but dude, we all know she's fucking crazy. It's time your dumbass finally see her as who she really is instead of always trying to protect her and end up hurting Blaire.
Blaire, is the main reason why I didn't lower my rating further. The woman got fire and balls in her. I love how she handle everything in the right way. Given with what she went through, her twin dying, her dad leaving, watching her mom die with cancer, leaving school early......I'm glad she was strong but also sometimes let herself cry. I love heroines like that. Women who are equally strong and confident but yet let themselves cry sometimes. She was one of my fav heroines.
Rush was ok. He was sweet and possessive but I wish he stop bringing Nan to all of this. For once I wish he actually be mean to her. About Abe, I know he later tell them the truth of his leaving but I have a real hard time forgiving him because when you marry you take the vows "in sickness and in health"....that part means a lot. I wish he stayed for Rebecca like Kiro did for Emily.
Overall the storyline is amazing, the characters were great, the couple had good connection and sizzling chemistry.
Tropes
-Stepbrother/Stepsister
-Manwhore/Virgin Heroine
-Snowflake/Flame
-Revenge
Note: No cheating (sex with OW included~ before they got to together), cliffhanger
Highly Recommended!!! Enjoy!!
The nineteen year old girl has lost everything. A car accident took away her twin sister. She lost her mother to cancer, after sacrificing her future taking care of her. And now she has to turn to her deadbeat, coward father to find a place a stay, a new start in her life.
But life deals her another unexpected hand. Instead of her father she finds his stepson.
Rush Finlay
“He’s the only child of the famous drummer for Slacker Demon, Dean Finlay. His parents never married. His mother, Georgianna, was a groupie back in the day."
Rush is tormented of his own demons. A bad boy, womanizer, cynical bastard that tries to hide a heart full of hurt and vulnerability. Mysterious, perfect, wounded and confusing man.
He wants her but he is afraid that he will taint her, ruin her and that she will find out the secrets they are harbouring and they will destroy the fragile balance she managed to maintain.
Abbi Glines does IT again!!
I love this story and the possibilities for future books are endless!!!
My Cast Photos
description
After burying her mother, Blaire packs her old truck and heads for some much needed help from her estranged father. She hasn’t been in contact with him since he walked out on her and her mother and remarried. She has no idea that he is living high on the hog with a new family.
Blaire’s father didn’t even have the decency to be there to greet her when she arrived. He is away with his wife on vacation. Yep a real winner! She is coldly greeted by her stepbrother Rush and is offered to sleep in a closet under the stairs in this mansion of a home. Rush also gives her two weeks to stay. Yep can you feel the warmth --- but there is chemistry and it’s strong.
Rush Finlay is gorgeous playboy who is very deep and tortured. He is very sexual and is drawn to Blaire. FYI- he has piercings and tattoos. Too bad he is keeping a secret.
"Blaire, I'm not a romantic guy. I don't kiss and cuddle. You deserve someone who kisses and cuddles. Not me. I just fuck, baby. You aren't meant for someone like me."
”I push people away Blaire. It’s a protective mechanism for me. But I don’t want to push you away.”
Blaire is a strong, beautiful girl both inside and out. She is a hard worker who never ever pities herself and you just have to respect her for that alone! She finds her strength in the love that her mother gave it keeps her secure, like a foundation.
Poor Blaire is treated a bit like Cinderella living under the stairs of the mansion and working for the elite at the country club. The chemistry is bubbling between Rush and Blaire. Rush soon finds that he can no longer resist her. Even though, Rush’s sister Nanette is an evil biotch towards Blaire, the couple’s attraction to each other turns into so much more.
”I had fallen too far. I was in love with Rush Finlay.”
Then there’s Woods, I REALLY like him as well! He is Blaire’s boss at the Country Club. I’m looking forward to reading more about him as well as Bethy a friend Blaire made at work.
But back to this secret... it seems that EVERYONE knows but Blaire. Even her boss seems to know something WTF right? This secret is looming for most of the book and once you find out what it is things deteriorate between Blaire and all who resides in Rosemary, Florida.
I didn’t have a past. I didn’t have a foundation.”
”Everyone always said that love was enough. It wasn’t. Not when your soul was shattered.”
Where will Never Too Far take us?
Here’s some of my wishes and ideas:
Woods comes to Alabama because he didn’t get to say goodbye. He talks Blaire into returning to Florida and explains that she has made a lot of friends and is missed terribly by everyone including him.
Woods offers her her job back at the club so she can have her own place, possibly with Bethy?
I would love for Grant to get more of a storyline.
I have a feeling that this is only the beginning and we are in for another great series by the talented Abbi Glines!
Get outta here while you can!
OH MY GOD this has got to be the stupidest name i have ever heard in my life. Rush, . . really?
And the cover is extremely ugly! Why the hell am i reading this book then you may ask. I have no idea, except all my friends have given it 4 or 5 stars, and i'm also trying this new thing where i don't "judge a book by it's cover". Let's see how that works out.
Wait, another book with an "innocent" girl and a guy who's played everyone? Isn't this like every other Glines book (at least the 6 or so others I've read)? I get formulas, but there comes a point where you have to write a DIFFERENT character type in order to prove that you are more than a one-trick pony. How about flipping this for once and giving us the experienced girl with the inexperienced guy?
Sigh. I was going to read this because I do like the sexual tension that Glines creates, but now I don't know...
I even broke out the happy keys for Because of Low because I thought we headed in a positive direction. Do I need to get myself a new key?
When I finished reading, this is a perfect example of how I felt:
funny gifs
For those who loved Fallen too Far (Fallen Too Far #1), it might be best for you to disregard this review because my reaction to this latest by Abbi Glines has me less than happy. Actually more like, WTFOMGBBQ did I read? This book is the perfect example of what is wrong with New Adult and the path it’s taking as a genre or a literary category. I will start by saying that Glines does have an engaging writing style. I can see why she has a big fan base. The heroine Blaire is wonderfully written and a character you want to root for, but the other characters in this tale are a big, big problem mainly because they're all stereotypes and are written as wretched, horrible people. Ever see the movie, Cruel Intentions and how nasty the majority of those characters are and you don’t feel one ounce of sympathy for any of them? That's what Fallen Too Far is.
Blaire is all alone in the world. Her mother has died, and because she has no place to go, she’ll live with her father she despises because he turned his back on them and acts as if they never existed. Because Blaire is poor, and yet a hard worker, she is put down and ridiculed by the richy-rich people she must interact with, mainly her father's new stepson, Rush, who is a well known man slut to the max. Rush is a walking STD and makes no qualms about it. When Blaire meets him, he's rude and crude to her. Throughout the story Blare seems him disrespecting women, as in he sleeps with them and throws them out after he gets his jollies off. We see this on the page and it's not assumed or subtly shown. Rush is the type of man who needs a therapist because it's obvious he has such rage against women.
Here’s a perfect example of what I’m talking about. The morning after Blaire's arrival, she meets one of the many girls Rush sleeps with:
“There you are. I missed you in bed this morning.” A soft female coo came from behind me. Curiosity got the better of me and I turned around. A girl in nothing but her bra and panties was snuggling up to Rush’s side and running a long pink fingernail down his chest. I couldn’t blame her for wanting to touch that. I was pretty tempted myself.
“It’s time for you to go,” he replied taking her hand off his chest and stepping away from her. I watched as pointed in the direction of the front door.
“What?” she replied. The confused expression on her face said she hadn’t been expecting this.
“You got what you came here for, babe. You wanted me between your legs. You go it. Now I’m done.”
The cold hard flatness in his voice startled me. Was he serious?
“You’re kidding me!” the girl snapped and stomped her foot.
Rush shook his head and took another drink from his cup.
“You are not going to do this to me. Last night was amazing. You know it.” He girl reached out for his arm and he quickly moved it out of the way.
“I warned you last night when you came to me begging and taking off your clothes that all it would ever be was one night of sex. Nothing more.”
Keep in mind that Rush is going to end up being Blaire’s love interest, the same man who has sex with girls and one night stands without a care.This is the man Blaire will fall in love with and choose as her soul mate. You'd think Blaire would stay far away from him, and make friends with the nice guys she works with and have a romance with one of them. Nope. Blaire is attracted to Rush regardless of his psychotic and bullying ways that are really more what a villain entails. But no matter because Blaire sleeps with Rush in very descriptive and erotic type love scenes that are very angry for both parties involved. The purpose is for them to find physical release with no emotional attachment. The sex between them is full of rage and greed, and shows how really pathetic these two are when all is said and done.
At one point Rush tries to rape Blaire (this is subjective on my part, so I welcome the discussion from other readers who agree or disagree), or I guess some readers would say he pulled a forced seduction on Blaire because even though she’s angry with him, and at first refuses him, her body responds to him and she finds her climax and then wants more. This scene reminds me of the almost rape scene (in a truck also) that begins Tammara Webber's Easy. Funny how Buck, who tries to rape Jacqueline, the heroine of that story, is the nasty villain, but when Rush does the same to Blaire, he's the hero, the love interest and one the reader is supposed to sympathize with and wants Blaire to have her HEA with. That scene was vile and disgusting. Again I ask, what was the point? To show how destructive and hot Rush's and Blaire's lust is for one another and think it’s amazing? To try and compare them to Heathcliff and Cathy’s sick and destructive love in Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights? I refuse to say love when it comes to Rush and Blaire because these two can't love one another. They're both disturbed and extremely unhealthy for one another. Rush chips away at Blaire’s soul until there is nothing sweet and genuine left. The Blaire at the end of this tale is a shell of her former self because Rush has sucked the life out of her via explosive orgasms, including the lies she unravels from her father and the ones Rush tells her.
Glines at no times gives us an adequate example why Blaire would fall for Rush and why the reader should expect these two to be together and be fine with it. I lost respect for Blaire the moment she decides to give into her attraction for Rush "just because". She's lonely and since he's amazing in bed, she'll use him exactly like he uses others.
Gone Too Far is the complete opposite of what a romance should be. I would stay far away from reading this one. If this is what the future of New Adult is or romance for readers jumping from Young Adult into adult romance, then I'm very saddened. I felt the need to shower after I finished reading this book and wanted to read a book where the heroine and heroine respect one another and share their love in healthy and uplifting ways.
This is one of the hardest reviews I've ever had to write. Why, you ask? Well, I can tell you it might possibly be my favorite Abbi Glines book written, but I don't want to say much and ruin the story for you all. So, I'll give you a few highlights and strongly encourage you to get it.
This book is Blaire's story. I loved this chick the minute she pulled out her gun. Literally. She's strong, smart, independent and loving. But, unfortunately for Blaire, she's had to suffer through some pretty horrific losses in a relatively short time frame. She's looking for support from her father until she can make some money and go out on her own. However, he's not there for her yet again. My heart hurt for her and I really hated her dad for not being there for her. Once you learn more about her story, you will love her even more. You connect with her. You want to be her friend. You want to hug her. When she meets Rush, her life tilts once again.
I love all the girls in Abbi Glines' books, but I usually fall for the boys immediately. She knows how to write sexy men. Well, Rush is certainly sexy, but it did take me a while to warm up to him. That said, I trusted that Ms. Glines would win me over....and I was right. It took a while to love Rush, but once I did, it was a big fall. Rush is complex. He's a rock star's son, so he's seen things and done things in his life that are well...pretty experienced. He's loyal to his family though and is a very passionate guy.
The relationship that Rush and Blaire have is a bit complicated. As I said before, Rush is very experienced and Blaire is not. (Not to mention the familial obstacles they face.) She has been in a relationship before, but she's never known a guy like Rush. These two have some serious heat together. Without giving too much away, I'll tell you that there are several extremely hot scenes between these two. If you know me at all, you know that I LOVED that!
I have to mention the supporting characters. I often make strong attachments to the supporting characters in Abbi Glines' books. In this book I really fell hard for Grant. He is funny and super sweet. I'm rooting for a book for Grant. Of course every story has it's villain, and in this one it's Nan, Rush's sister. She is just plain nasty, but I do understand why. Not that it made me like her any better though.
Here's the thing, I had the privilege of watching this story come to life and it's truly amazing seeing an author create a story. This particular story is a little bit different than some of Glines' other books though. Don't fear...you get your romance, swoony guys, and fantastic supporting characters. But, this story is a bit more raw and gritty. I will say that, as the end of this year wraps up and I think of all of the truly great books that have hit my self this year, Fallen Too Far will be among my favorites of 2012. I can't wait for you all to read it!
Review posted to: Swept Away By Romance
5 Sensational Stars
Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance/ very Mature Young Adult Romance
Heat Barometer: 5 out of 5 flames
This is the first book in a new series and it was…Spectacular! Fireworks! Explosions! Abbi Glines writes the steamiest, mature young adult romances that I have read. She is a “drop everything else and move her book to the top of the list” author for me, and I definitely haven’t been disappointed it her latest books.
In Fallen Too Far, the connection and combativeness between the characters was such a turn on. I steamrolled through it at 100 mph, I couldn’t stop, it was that addictive.
Rush was designer and Blaire was country. Rush grew up the son of a world famous rock and roll drummer. He was gorgeous and rich with sexy tattoos and piercings on a perfect physique. Blaire was a good girl, she grew up in a normal family setting until her twin sister was killed in a car accident. Her world and family was torn apart and in the end, her normal high school life was a heartbreaking struggle as she took care of her sick mother alone.
This book comes out fast with the heartache. I had to swallow my tears many times as Blaire would recount her past tragedies and memories with her mother and her last years of high school. Blaire was a strong and pure heroine. She was a wonderful and caring daughter and she had such pride and innocence that Rush and every male in this book should have been her protector and defender…she deserved it. Rush was the perfect “Jerk” hero, the kind I just love because you know in the end the heroine is going bring out the good in him and it going to be such an adventure until it gets to that point.
”I don’t kiss and cuddle, I just f*ck baby.” - and boy did he ever.
The chemistry between Blaire and Rush was off the charts and instantaneous. There were a lot of “other women”, jealousy and dirty talking situations that just built the anticipation and sexual tension to a frenzied eruption. What made all this wonderful connection even better was the story. There was lots of mystery and innuendos, twists and turns that I didn’t see coming. The depth and direction led to one heck of a reveal...it could be I was so caught in the sexual fog of Blaire and Rush that I was blindsided.
At 93% I kept thinking I hope this isn't a quick ending because the book has been too perfect to just finish it off. Well, heartbreaking cliffhanger is what I got. I found this author just in the last 5 months and 3 of the books I have read from her are solid 5 star reads. I highly recommend her and this series and I CANNOT WAIT UNTIL MARCH 13, 2013 for the sequel.
I was young and extremely dumb when I rated this four stars back in 2013. Something made me think about this book just now in 2017 and I was completely cringing. Then I read my four star review and wanted to die. This is an extremely problematic book, with very unhealthy tropes, and I was such a terrible reviewer when I was younger.
If you liked this book, good. I'm so happy you liked it. If you decide to read this review, please know that it is not a hate review. This is just my opinion.
I wanted to like this book. I really did. But for me personally, Fallen Too Far is the embodiment of everything wrong with a lot of books in the New Adult genre
The main character, Blair Wynn was infuriating for me. I couldn't stand her. She was just so stupid
And then we have Rush Finlay, who was just as horrible. He was the tortured soul type (don't get me wrong here, I have a huge soft spot for these types) but he wasn't the good kind. He was the kind who shoved it in your face as an excuse
I feel like I've read this same plot a million times. Girl meets asshole, said asshole doesn't want her around because secretly he's instantly in love with her and he knows this will be a problem, so he is just a dick to her when it suits him but when he wants her, the girl just does what he wants because she is so completely in love with him. Throw in a few jealous girls and a bad home life for both people and you have this book.
I'm so over reading this same plot line over and over again and there weren't even any characters that made this book redeemable for me
With that being said, if your a fan of this type of book, than this one is for you
WARNING WARNING. I'M ON A FANGIRL MODE
This was one of the best books I've ever read!!The book heros Rush and Blaire were amazing but as you can understand I have feelings for Rush!
Yeah this guy was simply perfect!
The truth is that in the beginning he was acting like a douche but he had his reasons!
Blaire was a girl that had faced the cruel side of life!
WHYYYYY???
People were being mean to Blaire and like that wasnt enought she had to face her father , learn the truth about her past
“I held his gaze. I could see the storm in his eyes. I knew he was confused. I could see the fear. Then there was the love. I saw it. The fierceness in his eyes. I believed it. I could see it clearly. But it was too late now. The love wasn't enough. Everyone always said that love was enough. It wasn't. Not when your soul was shattered.”
I only regret reading this book because now I have to wait till March for Never Too Far !
The first half of the book I would give around 3.5 but the second half around 4.5- So, I'm going to settle at 4 Stars
Meet Blaire and Rush:
Get it giiiirrrrl
The first half of the book was just kind of strange to me...
So this new girl, Blair, shows up at her dads house. A father she hasnt seen in about 5 years. Her mother has died of cancer, she has no money after paying for the medical bills, all she has is her truck and $20 in her pocket... So her father says he can stay with him and his NEW wife and step kids until she can make enough money to move out.
Well that's all well and good. Except, he's not even there when she knows up. He's on vacation with his new wife? After his first wife had just died and his daughter needed him? What a piece of shit.
Anyway.
SO here comes Blaire. Country girl, Blaire. She parks in fron of this house with her ancient truck and meets Grant. Now, i really liked Grant- he was sweet and funny- but really she pulled a gun on him? I mean sure that kind of made me laugh and it diesnt really bother me that she did that- mean it made her seem like a badass! However, the gun doesnt really fit with the rest of her personality.
I think Blair was supposed to be this hardcore country girl that doesnt take shit from anyone- but all I read through out this entire book was her just taking it and doing nothing about it. THAT DROVE ME NUTS. I mean this is the same girl that was trigger happy at the beginning of the book correct?
I dont know, i just think this girl would have had a mouth on her. Would have gone off on these bitches at these parties, etc. But instead she gets all upset and runs away into her hidey hole... Strange, right?
But what really drives me crazy about Blaire... I mean really just wants me to bang her head against a wall- She knows absolutely nothing about sexuality. I get it- she's a sweet, innocent- virgin. Awesome. Kudos. I'm happy for you... But, come on- a 19 (almost 20) year old woman would know more about her body and about sex that Blaire did. Yes, even though her mom was sick and she had "no time for sex" she still would have known more than she did in this book..
Yes, that's me- whacking Blaire upside the head.
So that made me feel like she really shouldnt be having sex if she knew that little about her own body and what sex really was.
I guess i just thought she was a little too innocent.
Rush annoyed me at the beginning too. Mostly because Blaire and him had barely even spoken- yet they were just so incredibly attracted to one another? There was just this magical pull? I guess I just wish there would have been more conversation between the two of them in the first half of the book...
OKay, I promise I am done bitching- The second half of this book was really good!
The second half gets more interesting.
Rush starts to make it a point to keep his eye on Blaire at all times. He becomes really protective of her- and well- I find that extremely hot.
Blaire starts to be willing to give into her desires to Rush. Even though in the back of her mind- she knows it will never actually work out. She just wants to be with him any way.
After the honkey tonk....
At this point I'm really loving Rush. He has gone from annoying boy that thinks hes gods gift to the world- to hot boy that cant get enough of the one girl he shouldnt have... I mean that is sexy, right?
Right.
Of course- things keep getting in there way.
Nan, Rush's sister- is a bitch.
There's a huge secret that I won't give away in this review but it's huge. It envolves Nan.
So the entire Nan thing keep getting in the way of Blaire and Rush- until one night they finally seal the mother freakin deal... And it's all hot.
Rush is so into Blaire at this point- it's ridiculous (in a good way ;)) Dude is totally falling for her.
Shit goes down......
Blaire finds out about the secret.....
And the world as she and Rush has known it- has come to a close.......
She runs away from it all, from all of them, including Rush, and runs back to her hometown........
Where we are left with a very very painful cliffhanger :( damnit.
WHAT IN THE NAME OF ALL CLIFFHANGERS??
The moment when you realize the book has ended but the story hasn't:
Ok, I am slightly calmer now. But I really have to say something or I'm probably going to explode.
YO PEOPLE. Whether you are fictional or not, STICK BY YOUR CHILDREN'S SIDE. You might be screwed up beyond repair, you might regret your decisions. I DON'T CARE. STICK BY YOUR FAMILY OR GET THE HELL OFF THE FACE OF THE EARTH.
Choosing the benefit of one child over the other? And for what? To ease your guilt? To shy away from the responsibility of taking care of a family shattered by pain? WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?
Blaire. My beautiful girl. An amazing character. A strength and loyalty so fierce that made my chest burst with pride. The love for her mother is so admirable that by the end I was cheering up for her to get the hell out of that family.
“My mother and my sister’s graves are home. I want to be near them. I’ve stood here and listened
to y’all tell me my mother was someone who I know she wasn’t. She would have never done what you’re
accusing her of. Stay here with your family, Abe. I’m sure they will love you as much as your last one did.
Try not to kill any of them,” I spat.
*****
I tucked my gun back under the seat and backed out of the driveway. I didn’t look to see if they were all huddled around poor Nannette. I didn’t care. Maybe she’d think twice before she fucked with someone else’s momma. Because, by God, she better never talk bad about mine again.
And Rush. Dude. I know you dont't exist but you REALLY need to read some more novels. You are a book boyfriend and let's just face it:
Now move on to the next book so you can fix it.
I just love when the bad boy 'playa' falls and especially when he doesn't realize he is falling! The sweet part about this story is that you have Blaire who has gone through some horrible things in the past five years: her twin sister dies, her father left and then she alone takes care of her mother who dies of cancer...she can definitely take care of herself! But she wants someone to want to be with her...to share her life and be there for her. Then you have Mr. Bad Boy, son of a rock god, pierced, tattooed, money bags and a sex machine who is totally taken by surprise by Blaire. He fights it and fights it hard but when he finally accepts it, he just can't get enough!
I was pleasantly surprised by this book several different time. I didn't expect Blaire to be so mature and capable and I didn't expect her love interest to be Rush. I also didn't expect to like him since he was such a jerk in the beginning. There's also a big secret in the story...it's not too hard to figure out but ultimately becomes Rush's undoing.
I thought Blaire was doing really well considering what all she had been through. I about died when she had to sleep in the room under the stairs...it certainly gave off a Cinderella vibe! She really has to deal with the separate social classes...not just where she is staying but at work as well. Luckily, she handles herself (and her gun) quite well.
Rush was definitely unexpected considering he was such a jerk at the beginning and was having sex out in the open where Blaire would see him! I love how he reacted to Blaire but I didn't like the secret he was keeping. It was funny to see him trying to fight his feelings and losing!
There are some other great characters. I really enjoyed Grant, Rush's step brother and had initially thought he would end up with Blaire. Woods really grew on me and I can't quite help but think something else will go on with him in the future. Nan was a total biotch...I know she was pushed in that direction but it was her choice to continue there. I can't help but feel she's going to get hers.
There are some good steamy scenes but not as detailed as some adult books. I think I just happened to like them more because of Rush's reactions and his dirty mouth!!
The ending is a bit of a clincher and does leave you hanging. My heart went out to Blaire especially at the cemetery and then OMG at the hotel. I don't know who I felt worse for....her or Rush. Thankfully, the next book, Never Too Far, will be out March 12, 2013.
Also don't miss out on an excerpt from Rush's POV:
