Perfect little intro to the Watersong Series! You get to learn more about Daniel and his accident. You also meet Lydia and Delias, who I am very intrigued by.

I really liked Daniel's character in Wake, so I was happy to have more background on his story. Even more excited to continue this series now!

Great back story on Daniel! Loved it. I feel like the events in this story will begin important in future books.

While it probably should have taken me to read a 60 page story in about 2-3 hours or less, I kinda extended it a bit (well, in this case, a few days). Just trying to balance my scales in a way. :) But I'll admit, a shortstory is always a nice break from a chapter book every once in awhile.

Forgotten Lyrics is a shortstory novel that is based on the first book of the Watersong series, Watersong. It gives a basic history about Daniel and the Sirens from Watersong. No spoilers from that book if you haven't read it yet. But it does have a pretty good plot, even though there were some grammar issues.

Aggie is also introduced here, who was the Siren that Gemma is soon to replace. In my opinion, Aggie seems to be the nice and caring one out of all the Sirens in Watersong To actually risk her own *insert spoiler* (yep, you must read to find out :)). It's sad she's dead later though. :( The way Penn acted just confirms what I'm fearing for Gemma in the future....

Overall, I think it's a good read if you would like more background info on some of the characters from Watersong, specifically Daniel and the real reason of how the Sirens went from 4 to 3. Though like I said earlier... it's not a big book and you'll finish in a few hours, so try to have another book in handy after you read it. ;)

Though offered for a free read for a short time on the publisher's website,
I decided to splurge on this short story for the whopping price of $1.99. ;-)

This is a good read for immediately after reading Wake!

This short story is more of a prequel to Wake, and goes into more detail about what happened to Daniel and Aggie prior to the events in Wake. Aggie was originally part of the Sirens, and is looking for a way out. We meet young Lydia Panning and her grandmother Delia in this story. Lydia is a friend of the librarian Marcy who works with Harper in Wake. Delia is actually a witch, with a 6th sense to know when someone might need her, and Aggie had approached her once before. We also find out exactly how the boating accident with Daniel and his brother John occurred. The story ends right at the time just prior to the beginning of Wake, so I really enjoyed this little addition to the story. I hope we will see more of Lydia and her grandmother in the future Watersong stories!

I think Amanda Hocking is an incredible Author which is why I am literally shocked that she would actually put this Novella out. It's not that the storyline is bad or how she writes the Characters, but what is "not" in the Novella. It is missing so much that while I was reading it I literally had to keep checking to see if I was still reading an Amanda Hocking book! It is lacking in so many areas. Not to mention that there really isn't much to this Novella at all that there is absolutely no need to read it to understand anything in the Wake series. (Yes, there is 1 "tiny" part, maybe 2 sentences if that, that tells you something you "could" want to know. But honestly, no, you wouldn't care.)

I really hate to write negative reviews but if it were me reading reviews so I knew if it was necessary or worth it to purchase a Novella/Book, I would hope there were people out there that could be honest about what they read. So, unfortunately, "No" I do not recommend this as a necessary Novella to to go with the series Wake, or worth getting just to read. However, I do recommend any of Amanda Hocking's other books!

A casual add on to the series. I like how it connected with things mentioned in the main series.

The prequel story!!!!
When Penn, Thea, & Lexi came to Capri & turned Gemma into the 4th siren of their group, none of them ever mentioned what happened to the girl before Gemma, who was Aggie - Aglaope. And basically, Daniel, his brother John, & these girls Zoe & Mackenzie go out on their boat & John's a bit drunk & everything's going fine until this girl - Aggie - swims in front of the boat & Daniel swerves to avoid hitting her & the boat crashes. Mackenzie & Zoe make it out fine but Daniel's trying to find his brother John when the ship tips over into the water & hits him & he goes under. OMG, poor guy was only 15 at the time - the story was 5 years earlier.
Lydia, this girl whose back home in Capri from college visiting her grandmother Delia, & they're aware of the supernatural. Aggie had come to Delia a few days ago & left without giving her name or anything & Delia doesn't know WHAT she is, having never encountered a siren before. So one night, Delia psychic senses wake her up & she & Lydia sit downstairs & Aggie shows up at their doorstep - she saved Daniel after he'd tried to save her by swerving the boat when John was driving. She couldn't find John & comes to them - Delia & Lydia do their best with him & then take him to the hospital & Aggie tells them to forget about her. She's changed & doesn't want to be a monster.
At the hospital, the doctors say Daniel will be okay eventually - & 6 weeks later, Lydia catches him at this diner & they talk though he doesn't really remember her. John died, & was found in a fisherman's net a week or so later. OMG POOOR DANIEL & HE WAS SO UPSET THAT THE PAPER CALLED HIS BROTHER A DRUNK GUY WHO PARTIED TOO MUCH - he didn't - he stood up to their abusive father & stuff :( He probably got that tree tattoo soon after
And the ending - Penn, Lexi, Thea & Aggie go to Capri & they don't know she'd already been there & they haven't been getting along - Aggie & Penn, & Penn's the leader, even though Aggie is her older sister :$ They're out by the rocks near the ocean & Aggie knows that it's the end, doesn't want to be a monster anyways & she knows what's coming - she & Penn fight & Aggie tells Thea to do the right thing & that maybe she'd stand by her but Thea doesn't do anything (but after in the 2nd book, u could tell she regretted it when she talked to Gemma about it a bit) & Aggie looks skyward when Penn attacks her & finally feels peace at last.
OMG DANIEL!!!! <3 THE POOR GUY - I HOPE HE & HARPER WORK IT OUT & HE'S SO GORGEOUS ON THE COVER OF THE 3RD BOOK!!!

I accidently found Forgotten Lyrics on Wattpad and I thought it sounds interesting. Even though a plot is a bit confuzing because I haven’t read Watersong series yet, this prequel can be read on its own. The book is actually pretty short, maybe the book is not a good name, better would be short story. Anyway, I really enjoyed it and now I want to read Watersong series. If I got it right, plot in Forgotten Lyrics takes place five years before the plot of Wake, first book in the Watersong series.

I liked Lydia. I mean, you can’t really form some real opinion about a character while reading only 50 pages about them, but I can say I like her. I would like to read more about her, but if I got it right from the comments on Goodreads, she will not appear in following books. I also liked Lydia’s grandmother Delia, she is really cool, I’m sorry that she won’t appear later too. And what is a YA book without some hot guy? Of course, here is Daniel, who I really like. In these 50 pages he got under my skin, I have to admit that. While reading I thought he and Lydia are going to be together in later books, but now I realized they won’t and I feel a bit of relief because Lydia is 5 years older than Daniel and that would be awkward. I liked Mackenzie too even though we can read about her only few pages.

As I said, I’m planning to read Watersong series, idea seems pretty original and interesting just as the other books by Amanda Hocking. This short story is great to kill boredom and relaxing with good story. I recommend.

I almost skipped this but glad I didn’t. I hope this means there’s going to be more supernaturals in the next book, or at least more about Delia and Lydia.

A really great short story, I've not read the series it belongs to and it still all makes perfect sense, and has a complete story arc. There are obviously ends that will be better tied up in the series itself, but it all works so well as it is. The main characters are convincing, and the magic/supernatural system intriguing if not unique. I didn't want to put it down - but at the same time was slightly annoyed with some of the slower plot points, like how they don't seem to do anything for like ten minutes when a boy shows up with injuries so bad they can see through to the muscle!
A recommended, fun, quick read.

There is nothing interesting about the novella. Daniel's accident could have been mentioned in the book itself instead of writing a novella. Certain things haven't been explained so yeah. I'm not very satisfied with the book.

Really loved the series and couldn’t wait until this one came out in hard copy, I’m not usually into reading ebooks but this one was so worth it! To get a little background on the characters in the series was really helpful

This book is a little piece of the story 5 years before. It shows that the mermaids had already crossed paths with some of the main characters.

This was not a terribly exciting read, but not awful. It was definitely a quick read, hope the rest of the series is better.
