Hhhmmm...
Childhood friends to lovers is my #1 most favorite theme in m/m romance. The second one is 'for health or sickness'. And guess what? This book has both!
Joe and Adam were like Batman and Robin. The hero and the sidekick. One could not exist without the other. Yet, for almost 2 decades of being best friends, they couldn't bring themselves to tell the other person how they felt, even though everyone else could see how they felt for each other.
They lived together. They worked for a same company. They took holidays together, and Joe cooked special breakfast for Adam. Yet, they were not in the relationship. Why? Because Joe was a pride out gay, but Adam was not. He even had girlfriends--many broke up with him because they couldn't compete with Joe (including the last one). Everything went well, until one day Joe told Adam something that made Adam ran toward the street. And got hit by an SUV.
This is a novella, but we get a lot from it. The background. The characters. The family members. Etc. The basic plot, friends-to-lovers, is not new, but the angle in which the author brings in is refreshing.
It's sweet, but not tooth-achingly sweet. One of my all time favorite novella.
