Frustrated was the first thing that popped in my mind when I got too the last page. Not because the book was bad but because we are left with another cliffhanger at the end of the day. I totally got lost in between the pages hoping that our two main characters Jaden and Ryder would come together. But twists and turns through out the book just kept them apart. I must admit although frustrated at the end the author kept you glued to the book, succeeding in her ability to let you continue reading. Wanting to get to the next Book as quick as possible. Her way of easy telling just keep you wondering what the two would face next. It keeps you on your toes making sure the coffee mug or water glass is filled not moving from your favorite spot to get to the end. The plot was well thought, well written with interesting characters added to keep you entertained, and guessing. Again we meet up with Jaden, Princess of Dormerica the parallel world of earth. Chief Ryder Blackthorne, Ralston her brother Andrew, mother the Queen and her father. All the old characters are back and have evolved in their own right. This book start off a year later after her disappearance to be back in the castle. Prepared to take over the reign from her mother who is terminally ill. And again she had to say goodbye. It was extremely painful but yet also comforting because now she could say goodbye. We meet up with a group of Transcenders which help her to adapt with her gift, faced with the question if she can commit to her life as Princess/Queen Jaden staying where she is or travel the world with a click of a button. Questions in the first Book is answered now so that you have a greater understanding about the plot. But again you are left with questions at the end. I really hope we do not have to wait to long for the 3rd Book. As I have stated a few times before I am not a huge fan of YA books but this Series I enjoyed immensely. So I can recommend this too not only young adults but mature readers with a love for YA fantasy books. It is filled with action, adventure, intrigue and romance. With all the growing pains surrounding such an relationship. Adding the responsibilities of taking over the reign, making decisions not only for herself but a country and you have a very good read. The one thing that bothered me about Jaden was her ability to threw a spanner in the water works so to speak every time in her friendships. I mean here she is making plans to over throw her uncle's evil plans, taking charge but yet when it comes to Ryder and Ralston she slips up, pushing them away when they do not conform to her frame of mind. Forgetting that she too have things hidden from them. Living a lie even more than they do. But then she goes and set things straight with Erica and you are left with a ahhhh moment. Jaden is forgiven for her missteps. After all she is only eighteen years old. Which is understandable. Many grown ups do not get this. But her ability to adapt and listen. To make quick decisions, strong willed in her actions but yet staying humble with the huge task at hand is what make her a great and believable character.
Ever since I read the first installment in this series a year ago, I have been eagerly awaiting its follow up! I was not disappointed in the least.
Streaming Stars, the sequel to Transcender: First Timer, by Vicky Savage, follows Jaden Beckett in her further adventures in Domerica. She had returned to Connecticut at the end of the last book, and we find her reuniting with the quirky but oddly endearing companion and guide of hers, Ralston of the IUGA (Inter-Universal Guidance Agency). He gives her the chance to go back to Domerica and reunite with her one true love, Ryder, and take back up her post as a pampered princess in this society, and she immediately takes him up on it. But things have changed dramatically in her beloved Domerica: her mirror mother (not her birth mother but her mirror image in this world) is deathly ill, Ryder may not still feel the same way for her as she does for him, and political intrigue swirls around the country. To make things even more complicated, Asher, another Transcender, shows her the whole new world of hopping to and from different realities and worlds. Who does she truly love? Where does she truly belong?
I thought this book was even better than the first. The wonderful aspects of the first still remain: the gorgeous description (still love the food, dresses, and Skorplings), the terrific characters, and the twists in the plot. The world building is astounding, as Savage has to develop a whole new society with its own political intrigue. Then there is the introduction of Asher, the second love interest. Ryder is nice in his own well muscled way, but Asher is more fascinating of the two. However, I have a bad habit of rooting for the wrong guy! The end left me breathless and impatient for the last installment of this trilogy.
Savage has really honed her technique, and this book is more polished than the first one. Jaden is a very likeable protagonist, and Savage combines Jaden's teenage angst with her intelligence in a winning combo.
Overall, a wonderful follow up to the first novel, and Savage only gets better and better with each word. I can't wait to read the last book in the trilogy.
I was mesmerized by this series, I couldn't put them down. The author drew me into the world of Jaden, with beautiful world building and elaborate plot. I left book one with hope Jaden would be reunited with Domerica and her life there, especially her one true love, Ryder. After reading book two, I'm left feeling a little hopeless. It seems the universe is against her being truly happy. Jaden's life is a mess, she's being pulled in so many directions, and the only thing she is sure of is her love for Ryder and her undying desire to be with him forever. I can't wait for book three! What a cliffhanger!
I think I liked this one better than the first - maybe because there was a bit more drama, conflict and "bad guys." I loved some of Jaden's one liners and inner thoughts and felt the author really did a good job of reminding us that through everything, Jaden was still a teenager. One complaint I had was Jaden's lack of conflict about leaving Connecticut and possibly never seeing her "real" father and brother again. She showed slighted sadness but I wished she didn't so easily replace her "real" family with her "mirror" family. I also liked her chemistry with Asher better than Ryder...Perhaps in the third installment!
I loved the first book, and had to read the second instantly. Although I am really sad I have to wait for the third.
The second Book surpasses the first book with the information, and background of what Jade is going through. I absolutely loved the new places she got to go with Asher, and the fact that she was able to confide in him.
In TRANSCENDER: FIRST TIMER, I loved Jade and Ryder together. I felt the magnetic pull through the words that Savage so beautifully wrote. I really felt as if they could get through anything as long as they were together. Then comes STREAMING STARS. I didn't enjoy Ryder and Jades interactions as much as the first. I still felt as though they were eternally connected, I just felt as though their problems might not be worth fixing to Jade since they were pretty big problems(like Erica, her impending death, etc).
Then in pops Asher, quite literally. I wish I was her just to meet that tasty treat. They don't have the bond that is between her and Ryder, but Asher can offer her many things Ryder can't. She can be honest with her life, and never has to lie to Asher. She doesn't have to hide the fact that she can travel between dimensions. I'm not sure what's going to develop with them, if anything at all, but I REALLY hope so.
Lastly, I was put off with the fact that she could just up and leave her real family for their "mirrors" but under her circumstances, I'll cut her a break and say that she was doing it for the love of them and the love of her One and Only. At least in Domerica, they're relatively happy and she got to say goodbye to her mother.
Such a fan. Will be reading the next book definitely.
Ughhhhh the curve ball in the beginning with Ryder and Erica pissed me the hell off. Really? I already hated her from the first book. Then Jaden constantly saying how she's made such a mess of things and everyone being a Ryder sypathiser made me want to pull my hair out. Even though he thought her dead, she spent the last year searching for him, thinking about him, of course she feels betrayed and hurt. And to act like those feeling are wrong is infuriating. The way their relationship went from turmoil to pet name calling again made me want to gag. All of this relationship drama made it hard to enjoy the rest of the book.I could no longer relate to her or understand her actions. The only part of the book I now enjoy is Asher, who I love. Once we got that big blow at the end, I was ready to throw my beloved kindle at the wall. The only way this book could have redeemed itself would be if she dropped him at Erica´s door and went transcending with Asher into the sunset. But alas that was not so. I'm sure I'm being a little unreasonable but I'm a bit of a hopeless romantic and this just ruined it for me. :-(
I'm crossing my fingers that in the third book she realizes she doesn't belong on this backwards dome planet tied to a guy who's forever involved with someone else and that she has better things to do, like explore other worlds??? With someone she can actually be honest with? I also wish she didn't replace her real family so easily with the mirrors of them. What's up with that?
This second book does not disappoint!! I thought I flew through the first one, but it literally took me one night and one morning to read the second (I crashed during the night or I would have gladly stayed up super late to finish). I love Jaden's growth in this one so much. She has some serious choices to make in pretty much all aspects of her life, and they aren't easy. Though sometimes she gets overwhelmed, she faces them as best she can with so much strength and grace, showing how well she could be as a queen. Some scenes were so heartbreaking, but I thought Jaden handled everything so well. As for her and Ryder, I love how their relationship grows and changes as well. A lot has happened since Jaden left, and they have to find a way to deal with all that time. Though I got a little frustrated with them at times (in the best way), I think their journey is very realistic.
But once again, what blew my mind is the writing. It immerses you in the world of Domerica so thoroughly that you feel dazed trying to come back out of it. Between all the intense action going on around the characters are high levels of action going on inside them, and it makes the story nothing short of needing to be devoured.
3.5 stars Jaden has lived the last year of her life in agony not knowing what happened to her family and Ryder. Now she gets the chance to go back for one month and decide if she wants to stay in Domerica, this time she gets a choice.
BUT things have changed, a lot can happen in a year and instead of the fantasy welcome she envisioned Jaden gets her heart get broken several times over. To make things worse someone wants her dead badly.
Jaden is brave and smart and I felt bad for her. Ryder what can I say I understand where he is coming from ,but that didn't make the situation any less F#cked up for Jaden.
The politics were a little bit dragged out. I can't wait to read the next book.
Eagerly waiting for Streaming Stars, the sequel to Transcender: First Timer, by Vicky Savage,I finally got to read it and I was not disappointed. Jaden is given another chance to return to Domerica and Her true love Ryder. But things are not the same and Jaden finds herself tugged in many directions. Her mirror mother is deathly ill, there seems to be a new love interest with Asher another transcender and Ryder seems to be pulling away from her. I enjoyed reading about Jaden and experiencing her life but, unfortunately book two left my with quite a cliffhanger! With in Third book in sight!Hope it comes soon!
**update 3/8/2014** Even after a year, and 70+ other stories I've read, this story still sticks. Looking forward as ever on the continuation of Transcender. Thrilled to learn book #3 is on its way. **
Every bit as enjoyable as the first in the series. Now please bring on book three!
Streaming Stars is a fascinating story with fantastical characters and location. I am thoroughly hooked.
Surprise, another cliffhanger! :)
Oh dear me, the third book hasn't a publication date, yet…
Fantasitic book and even better than the first!! Readers are totally immersed in Jaden's life and share her emotions, from the gut-wrenching to the glorious. Many surprises and wonderfully well written. This is a book for all adult readers, young and old. I am waiting impatiently for the 3rd installment.
This second installment was just as exciting as the first. Jaden finds herself back in Domerica, and in just as much drama and action as the first. This book was nonstop action with lots of twists and turns. Although I would have like to have seen more romance with Ryder, and a little less political content, I loved it and can’t wait for the next one.
I feel like this cover makes the book appear to be more of a risqué romance novel - but thankfully it is not. There is a little bit of everything in this story - g/pg rated romance, sci-fi, adventure, mystery, etc. Thoroughly enjoyed it!
Mixed feelings about this one. I loved the continuation of the plot, but it lost so much of what I loved in the first book. This really felt like the characters were just going through the motions - situation A dealt with, move to situation B, etc.
