Talon #5

Inferno

Rate this book
Today, we strike back.
We show Talon that we will never accept their new world.

Ember Hill has learned a shocking truth about herself: she is the blood of the Elder Wyrm, the ancient dragon who leads Talon and who is on the verge of world domination. With the Order of St. George destroyed, Ember, Riley and Garret journey to the Amazon jungle in search of one who might hold the key to take down the Elder Wyrm and Talon—if they can survive the encounter.

Meanwhile, Ember’s brother, Dante, will travel to China with a message for the last Eastern dragons: join Talon or die. With the stakes rising and the Elder Wyrm declaring war, time is running out for the rogues and any dragon not allied with Talon.

The final battle approaches. And if Talon is victorious, the world will burn.

Here's my prediction (spoilers from Legion):
1.) Riley and Mist hook up
2.) because of the dragon blood, Garret magically has a dragon life span, eliminating that issue
3.) Dante sacrifices himself to save Ember
4.) the archivist is Mist's employer, and he comes in the last minute to save the day and kills the Elder Wyrm
5.) there is a huge final battle
6.)Tristan lives and he is instrumental in the final battle
7.) all the European dragons flock to the final battle, saving the day
8.) Garret's dad is still alive, and saves the day
Honestly, I just wrote this whole book. You're welcome.
While this might sound like I've hated the series, I actually love it and I'm looking forward to reading it. I just hope it proves my predictions wrong. But I don't think it will. I've read all of Julie Kagawa's books and she has a common plot: fake death (Garret), forbidden love (Garret and Ember), and sacrificial real death (hasn't happened yet). I hope this book proves different.

Five ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

That was an amazing final battle! This book is adventure after adventure from the beginning to the end. There was no slowness to this book. I love this series characters so much, I actually was more into the characters than the dragon plots of the series. The characters are just so addictive in this series.

My quick and simple overall: I WANT MORE TALEN SERIES BOOKS!

The Elder Wyrm had a plan to live forever and Ember Hill was the key. Caught up in the shocking truth, Ember is facing unsurmountable odd and her and pretty much all of humanity’s only chance is if she can unite enemies against a common foe. But can trust the people at your back when hatred has been grown for centuries.

Talon is preparing to release a weapon that could devastate the entire world and secure their power forever.

It is always sad when a series comes to an end, characters that we’ve spent hours delving into their lives. Kagawa has taken us on one heck of a ride.

Intense, bold characters that have evolved for this climatic ending of Talon.

You can't help but find yourself caught up in this original shifting dragon tale.

I received this copy of Inferno from Harlequin Teen. This is my honest and voluntary review.

The actual quality of this series is just so far below what I'm used to reading at this point. I cannot take a book with the line "the dragon apocalypse is coming" serious in any regard. Only reason I'm not one starring is because I know I'm not the intended audience for this type of read.

Recommended for readers just getting in YA and looking for something with just surface level entertainment value.

A truly epic conclusion to a brilliant series. I’m both happy and sad at the ending but in a good way. Everything was wrapped up nicely, no loose ends but a final book that felt whole.

Although I’m a bit sad saying goodbye to the Talon Saga and all the wonderful characters (friends) I’ve made along the way, I’m look forward to more fantasy books by this author.

2019? ARE YOU SERIOUS?
Well that's depressing. I don't even want to think where I'll be then! Will I even be reading YA books then?
Obviously yes but I feel like I'm pushing it as it is and I'm only 23!

Might have to start reading shorter series to make myself feel young again, It's a good job I'm obsessed with Garrett..
This wait better be worth it!

It's finished. Done. Completed. Insert various other synonyms

And I figured out who Garret is.

This book was a huge jump (if you will) from Karin Slaughter's novels. I mean the most intense romantic scene was the inserted scenes of cuddling between Garret and Ember. No complaints from me there tho.

But what matters most is that the book wrapped up quite nicely. No missed characters, but then again some did die. But the major plus was that veryone I thought would live did. So hurray!

Squirrel has now finally found an acorn or is performing an exorcism

Even for the last book, I'll admit this was a light read, the battles (there were two main ones at least)
marked the more intense parts of the novel.

The one thing I'm left wondering is where was Ouroboros in the final chapters of the novel.

------- First commentary ---------
Oh damn I haven't got a single clue of what happened in the last book? ( I mean who is Garret ) And I'm getting this book in a week. Something tells me I'm going to stuck while reading this...

Does anyone else get super excited when they finish off a series? Or is that just me?

Well maybe it depends on if the series is good or something. Luckily for me, the Talon series was just that entertaining. Inferno is the fifth and last book of this wonderful series. Now even though it was the last one, I feel like not a lot happened in it. I mean, it had some battles.. but other than that - nothing else.

Other than that, Garret and Ember had some cute moments. Which I am a-okay with because I just needed her to pick someone throughout the entire damn series. Other than that, Dante was okay but after the last book he couldn't really redeem himself to me. Sorry, not sorry.

In the end, I'm glad that I finally got to finish this.

Loved this conclusion to the series. There were some sad scenes and saying goodbye to characters you love is always hard but this one leaves you feeling like something new and wonderful is beginning. Favorite scene was the big battle scene with the elder dragon. So vivid!

Inferno is exciting, emotional, gripping and amazing. Ember Hill has learned that she is the daughter of the Elder Wyrm, the ancient dragon leader of Talon who plans on world domination and vows to stop it. With the Order of St. George destroyed, Ember, Riley/Cobalt and Garret must journey to the Amazons to search for the only one who may hold the key to stopping the Elder Wyrm and Talon once and for all. Meanwhile, Dante travels to China with a message for the Eastern dragons to join Talon or die. With the Elder Wyrm declaring war, time is running over for the rogues, mankind and any dragon that doesn’t stand with Talon. Enemies have becomes allies, bonds broken and made as Ember, Riley/Cobalt, Garret and what remains of St. George are forced to fight side by side against Dante and Talon and their army of dragon clones for the future of the world. Inferno is full of action, forbidden love, choices, danger, sacrifices and emotion.

After surviving the battle against Talon’s clones, Ember, Garret and Riley/Cobalt vow to fight back against Talon and with the help from a shocking source, journey in search of finding someone who may stand against the Elder Wyrm. However, they discover information leading to potential allies and need St. George’s help to free them and hope they will put aside their hatred and work together. Afterwards, they learn the location to Talon’s army of clones and will risk more than just danger in order to stop the Elder Wyrm’s plans to declare war on everyone who stands against her. However, they will also face surprises, sacrifices, and the final battle that will decide that fate of the world.

Upset over his failure to destroy all of St. George, Dante is determined to redeem himself to the Elder Wyrm and is sent to China to deliver a message their eastern cousins; join Talon or die. There Dante also receives a message of his own from an unexpected source that reveals the Elder Wyrm’s true plans for Ember. Upon discovering the truth about Ember, the Elder Wyrm’s plans and preparing for the final battle, Dante will make one final choice that will have to make one last sacrifice.

The romance throughout this series between Ember, Garret and Riley/Cobalt has been an emotional roller-coaster as I love both of the guys and each have a connection to Ember. I’m glad that the triangle has made peace with it. Of course now we can focus on the possibility of Riley/Cobalt having a new love interest in someone that I think is perfect for him.

Ember, Garret and Riley/Cobalt remain great characters and all three have grown so much over the series and keep what makes them so great. I just love them. Wes as always remains funny and smart-mouthed. I’ve grown to like Tristan. Mist is okay, I guess. Jade is awesome. I still can’t believe Dante. I also hate the Elder Wrym.

Overall, Inferno was breathtaking. I loved everything about this series from the plot, story, setting, characters, romance and inner conflicts. Be prepared for deaths, twists, and other things that will put you into an emotional roller coaster. I am saddened to see it end but it was an amazing journey that I look forward to re-reading again. As far as endings goes, this one was not what I expected but still a good one. I can’t wait to see what adventure Julie Kagawa will come up with next.

.
“There is nothing between you and freedom now, as long as you decide to step out and meet it.”
- Ember ("Inferno")
.
.
“Forward," Ember replied. "Always forward. Its a new day, and anything is possible.”
.
.
Lieblingscharakter: Garret👍
.
Lieblingsszene: Der Endkampf🔥

The final book in the Talon Saga is here, and as expected, I'm super impressed by what Julie Kagawa has given us for the sendoff.

Finally, after five books, Kagawa caps off her best series yet in style. Yes, everyone probably thinks Iron Fey when they think of Kagawa first and foremost, and with good reason, but I do feel like too many people are sleeping on Talon and sequels. Let's just say that one day, when I got the bookstore to finally stock the first four books, I managed to sell the first book within less than an hour of picking it up and hand-selling it. I could probably break that record now, knowing how epically the whole series ends here. So many metric tons of mind-blowing action, saving some of the best twists for last, a most surprising redemption, and finally, for once, MY SHIP SAILS - this after I was scared it had sunk forever at the end of Soldier two years ago.

To the Talon Saga, I now say ave atque vale and super-eagerly await Kagawa's next book, Shadow of the Fox. Which I'll have to make sure my work starts stocking in a timely manner, if I'm still working there by then, of course.

Good series, predictable plot

A decent conclusion for a good series. I would have given it four stars of not for the fact that it follows the same formula as all of Kagawa's other books. I have enjoyed all of them, but knowing what will happen has made it predictable, and regrettably taken the thrill out of the story for me. Possible spoilers ahead.
In all three book series I have read by her, the main protagonist is a strong willed young girl. She always has a brother and discovers she is the daughter of someone powerful. (Iron Fey it was Oberon, Eden it was a Vampire master, and in Talon it is the Elder Wyrm.) She always falls in love with someone she shouldn't, and then there is some sort of death scare, which her love interest survives of course, and in the end she becomes some sort of ruler. It was good the first time. Shrug worthy the second. Using the same formula a third time has ruined it for me and I likely will not be reading any more Kagawa in the future.
Even so, good book series. Classic young adult fantasy and enjoyable read.

"Well, it's not too late to say bugger this, turn around and get off the bloody island of Dr Moreau. But since that's about as likely as the Elder Wyrm taking up tap dancing, I'd have to say... no."

I'm torn between being amazed at this wonderful finale and being completely broken up about this amazing series being over. I love all those characters and the world Kagawa has created here and I flew through the pages like flying on a dragon, the writing was amazing and the conclusion to the story was really great! This is a series I will be rereading (again) for sure.

"The final battle is approaching. I only hope we are ready."

Oh gosh, where do I start? I always have so much trouble reviewing Julie's books because I have to reign in my gushing enough to say more than just "I loved it!" XD

But...I loved it!! There hasn't been a Julie book that I've ever read that I didn't adore to pieces. I love this series and while I'm sad to let it go, Inferno wrapped it up nicely!
"It's either fight or conform to Talon. Even if we run, the organization will just hunt us down. We have to fight."

Julie has a knack for writing awesome characters. I was surprised by how attached I got to the side characters!

It's so hard to talk about much else without giving anything away!

I don't have much else to say - like I said, can't make a whole review out of "I loved it!" baha - other than if you haven't read this series, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?! If dragons aren't your thing (which if not I'm silently judging you), there's also the Blood of Eden trilogy (vampires, but like - well written, scary vampires lol), Shadow of the Fox (kitsune and Japanese culture), and the Iron Fey (faeries)!

Inferno is the stunning conclusion to the Talon series.

It's always difficult to be faced with the finish of a series which you have enjoyed for quite a while, maybe that's why I was putting off reading this book (it's only taken me close to a year to start and finish it since I bought it).

Ember, Garret and Riley have come incredibly far from the first book. They have learnt that having differences doesn't necessarily mean a bad thing, it just makes them simply different. Learning about the differences and how they complement each other is a natural progression to respect and advancement.

Most of the story wrapped up quite well, there were a few parts that I wondered whether something more would happen . But all in all I'm quite happy with the way the story went and the end result.

This book had everything you would want from a fantasy finale - redemption, love, new beginnings, enemies coming together to face a bigger threat, some death, but most of all a promise for a better future.

Wow, Julie Kagawa actually managed to make me not totally hate Riley anymore. I mean... it took 4.5 books to get there, but I'll take it. Also, that epilogue was underwhelming as hell and left a lot to be desired but whatever. I'm just glad Ember and Garrett got their happy ending and I can finally be done with this series and move on to better things

Inferno is the epic finale to Julie Kagawa’s sensational series, Talon! A world filled with dragons in the modern age fighting a long battle with the Order of St. George, the humans sworn to protect humanity from the dragon. But times have been changing greatly over the course of this series. Dragons and a few of the members of St. George have been working together to fight a common enemy, the Elder Wyrm.

What I love about this series is how easy it is to dive back in after a year or sometimes longer since last reading from it. Things just continue on in a nice steady stream. When we start Inferno, we see Riley, Ember, and Garret on a mission to talk with another dragon Wyrm who is one of three of the oldest dragons in existence. He has had a grudge against Talon for ages, so if helping this trio of teenagers helps take them down, he’s all in. He sets them on a course that will help them build an army to wage against Talon and this particular help is something that Riley has been searching for for ages.

This series has held me riveted since the very beginning. I’ve loved watching Ember interact with Garret and Riley, too. She was such a fun loving character. She wasn’t at all what you’d expect from dragons, which naturally, was the appeal for Garret and probably Riley too. Though as we all know, Ember has made her choice when it came to romance and that choice was Garret. That honestly made me the most happy because I liked Garret. Even when he was the enemy, you could slowly see him start to change, little by little. He eventually became one of my favorite characters in this series. Though, what with needing to save the entire world, there’s very little time for romance for the two of them…or the other characters.

Inferno truly just continues to build up the pace, tension, and action in the story! One mission leads to another and another and then soon the planning for the takedown begins. Working with other members of St. George will be trying, as not all of them have made the transformation into believing that not all dragons are bloodthirsty monsters.

What I’ve also enjoyed about this series was the multiple points of view. We get to know everything this way, and worry not friends, it’s never confusing as to what’s going on. For the most part, Ember, Riley, and Garret are always together so we just get different perspectives on their current situation. Adding in Dante again, let’s us in on what’s happen on the enemy’s side. It’s a real eye-opener for the characters and the reader.

It’s so hard to write a review for a series finale. There’s so many things I want to say and talk about, but when I start getting chatty I might let something slip! Lol. Don’t want to do that obviously, so I am always restraining myself from writing too much. There was a heavy mix of emotions going on throughout the story and while one event had me bursting with emotions, I honestly felt like I knew it was coming. Needless to say that Inferno held up to all my expectations! Just as I started to doubt a theory I had brewing after Legion, the issue is address just moments before The End came around. Which naturally made me all happy and bubbly inside! Lol!

While Julie may tear our hearts to pieces throughout the series, (and I really do think she enjoys that! Lol.) I always have faith in her that she will not leave me heartbroken by the final end. And with three series completed, I can say that holds true for this latest one as well. I feel like it’s always important to end a series in a way that final and yet hopeful for the characters future. That weird way of where everything is all said and done, but we can rest easy knowing that our favorite characters will continue on living, even if no one is there to write their stories. As I said, it’s weird, but I like knowing that my favorite characters from this series will still be living on in some fashion!

If you haven’t read Julie’s Talon series yet, I highly urge you to do so! Never has there been a dragon series that held me so riveted and enchanted! It’s pure magic in modern times! It’s a series not to be missed!

This book was disappointing. It ended WAY too tidily. There was a huge battle, but not one of the main characters died. statistically unlikely. Also instead of them having to deal with the whole you-will-die-but-i-will-live-forever situation kagawa conveniently wrote in a solution out of nowhere. in the 4 previous books there wasn't one hint of that. also the whole evil-scientist-is-my-secret-dad thing. Really??
Also I'm not sure Kagawa has ever been a teenager. A bunch of teens and twenty-somethings experiencing freedom for the first time and they sit around playing UNO? nope. they would be doing all sorts of bad things. just saying. That is actually less likely than people shifting into a dragon.

Why must you end??? This was a very nice final book, and everything I wanted to happen did. However, that being said, I was not shocked by anything because I saw every little thing coming but it was still enjoyable! I’m so sad to say goodbye to these characters, and hope that maybe we can get some more books in this universe eventually.
