Years ago, when I had my first Basset Hound, Fred, I noticed the amazing and hilarious contortions he’d get into when shaking his head and body. I tried photographing this, but either he was too fast or my hand was too shaky or my camera was inadequate to the task. So when I accidentally came across Carli Davidson’s “Shake” on display in the library recently, I had to check it out.
There is very little text to this book, but I did learn that it takes very special equipment to perfectly capture a dog in mid-shake. The over 130 photographs are crystal-clear, beautiful, often hilarious, and always fascinating. Each of the photos deserves careful and repeated scrutiny.
