2 Lackluster Stars

Actually this book successfully created a nice setting for a good scifi story, unfortunately it is also to be blamed for distracting the main theme of this book. Feels like the tentacle-sex erotica theme was pushed to the side to make way for much world and character building, which I am not saying is a bad thing especially for a book. BUT it is certainly not working out too well for a short fiction of just a couple of pages with an erotica theme as its highlight. So yeah, the spotlight fell on the wrong side of the story. What's supposed to be the highlight was dim in comparison with the supporting story that was meant to enhance, not take over the whole story so much so that I felt the tent-sex was just a slap on.

Do expect a bunch of war, evolution and nature talk within its pages. I confess I did find the evolution and nature part quite fascinating. The premise of this book does have the potential of expanding into a full fledged scifi novel. I would look forward to a day someone would write a an actual novel length story with a tentacle-sex theme, be it a horror story or a romance story of the M/M genre. It has to be M/M genre for me.

THE TENTACLE-SEX:
As I have already said, it doesn't move me due to the slap on feeling it gave me. The tent-sex part feels unceremoniously dumped onto the character. 'Poof' here comes the tentacles! And... sex ensues in a scripted way.

In my opinion, the tentacles-smexing was lacking eroticism. I just didn't feel the sensuality of it. It might be because, of how the scene was presented and written. It feels dry like empty narration of events and details. Plus the character thinks way too much while being molested by said monster. He should be in panic and reacts wildly as per common sense dictates especially said monster was an unknown entity to him and he might just get eaten, torn apart or crushed by it. His half-hearted struggles simply didn't jive very well given the dire situation he was in. At least, some hyperventilation might credit his common sense.

This extract below demonstrate an example of what I mean by the character lacking normal human reaction when in distress:
He found himself wondering: What did these alien creatures think of giant squids, octopuses, and cuttlefish and the like? Were they simply brethren, developed on some alien world by the universal force of natural selection; evolution?
His thought was shattered when he felt that tentacle roaming his body begin to travel down his abdomen, undulating over the ridges of his abdominal muscles, to slither toward his manhood in the dip that was his Adonis belt.
“No,” he groaned. “Please don’t!” It was a gut instinct that told him where the tentacle was going, and his suspicions were confirmed when he felt the entire, thick snake-like mass curl around.....

- See, he still have the time to go wonder about inconsequential stuff. Harumph!
BOY your dick is in danger! SCREAM for fuq sake! At least yell or something like that. I'll even forgive you for passing out cold. Don't just groan! *exasperated*. l felt like a frustrated director yelling at a novice actor.

THE VERDICT:
Summing it up, I'd say the author tried too hard with this one. There was too much unnecessary details yet a not enough enthusiasm for the main highlight of the story; the tent-sex.

In short, the story was overloaded and missed its target, unless the readers didn't get into this story with the expectation of getting off on a hot-noncon-tentacles-alien-smexing-up-a-reluctant-hunk as per promised by the blurb:

Ooh! I liked this one. Going beyond the tentacles (which I obviously enjoyed), the narrative was interspersed with tidbits and outtakes that built a picture of what happened after the events in this story. It gave a nice sense of continuity that made the overall world feel big and vast and a whole bunch of other words that mean large things. Heck, even the tentacles had a nice sense of girthiness about them. *pauses* Okay. Moving on.

I tend to like that while these stories have a strong focus on sexy times with the tentacles, they also manage to build the characters and give us a sense of why they're in the situation they're in. It adds depth where you often don't find any. Oh, yeah, and the sex is smokin'. Or sliming. However you want to look at it.

I'm seriously digging my foray into gay tentacle erotica! YAY!

Eh. It's well written, but I didn't like it. But that's on a purely personal preference level.

(It was the thing.)
