I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Brett Kingston: "What he wants, he gets".
Penny Quinn: "Strong and independent, but full of insecurities".
One evening they meet at the bar and their lives change. Both of them have to work through their issues to be together, but the question is - will they stay together?
What I didn't like:
1. the amount of drama. I know, the characters have to go through a lot, to finally be together (or not), but here it was one thing after another, like both of them could not keep their mouths shut. After several scenes like this, I wanted to scream at the two of them and tell them to switch their heads on and communicate properly.
What I liked:
1. the story. A plane Jane getting that billionaire is like a dream come true for some people. However, she cannot be a simple Cinderella - nice, kind, and caring, - because he will not stay interested - she needs to challenge him and push his buttons to keep the relationship exciting. This is the story of Penny and Brett. I think that if she just did what he wanted to, he would dump her in an instant. But she was sassy, spoke her mind, and stood up for what she believed, so she was sort of a puzzle for him to solve. And, boy, did he want to know more about her. Unfortunately, there were several problems - and Brett was not ready, but I liked how he handled a part of them.
2. the characters. There are different characters in this book - friends, family, and coworkers - and all of them are distinct. The ones that stand out the most are Loretta (Penny's sister) and Tom (Penny's coworker), although they do not appear much throughout the story. Loretta is not a nice lady, let me tell you, and it was a surprising turn for me because, in most books, family members are generally supportive of the main character. But not Loretta here. Tom, on the contrary, is a nice guy who helped Penny, when she didn't know she needed it. I also like how Brett evolved throughout the book. In chapter 8 he was still an entitled prick who thought, that Penny should do everything for him since he took her out to an expensive dinner. However, later it was shown how he changed and even how differently he started to think in various situations. So, all of the characters contributed something to the story and evoked emotions.
3. the writing. The book is well-written. It is easy to follow the story, there are several funny moments, and the characters' voices are easily distinguishable (it's a dual POV story).
Content warnings: profane language, sexual scenes.
Overall opinion:
I liked this book. The writing, the characters, the story - I enjoyed everything. The narration is easy to follow, entertaining, humorous, and full of drama. If you enjoy romantic stories, modern take on tales, and numerous hot scenes, then definitely check this book out!
