Angela Martin is chief detective for the Moose Creek, N.C., police department, when a possible murder call comes in. At the scene she finds the body of a woman, hanging from hands bound overhead, eyes blindfolded, mouth gagged. Red whip marks crisscross the woman’s buttocks, the back of her legs. She recognizes the scene, knows exactly what happened to the woman before she died, because Det. Angela Martin was bound and blindfolded, gagged and whipped exactly as this woman had been. By a man she met on line.

A killer.

A master whose power over her is so strong she’s willing to risk everything – her career, even her life – to be with him again.

LETHAL OBSESSION is a novel of desire and domination, suspicion and fear, and the mysterious way those emotions mingle into an inescapable pull, one that might cost Angela her life.

I'm a mid-western gal who left home at 16 and never looked back. Eventually I made my way to Florida, worked for three years as a carnie and another three with a circus -- yes, a real, live, honest-to-god circus. Traveled all through the South and Mid-Atlantic those years, town to town, on the road eight months at a time.

Now I'm a small-town Southern office girl, filing papers, answering the phone. I don't own a cell phone or a TV. I take long walks at night, lay in the grass and watch the clouds go by, and I write erotica. Blazing hot erotica. And mystery stories dripping with lust, sex and suspense.

Okay this was NOT what I was expecting the opening was, well, ummmm OMG ..... it sort of looked like this..............................

Okay ladies yes there is BDSM but there is also a "twist" and Detective Angela Martin is caught right up in the middle of everything, but she doesn't know that just yet!

Angela Martin is in a loveless marriage with her husband Roger. She knows Roger has extra-curricular activities that have been on going for the last 5 years leaving her alone, and sexually frustrated. Needing some form of companionship she reaches out to an ad on Craigslist and strikes up a friendship with Mr. Tanner. This friendship starts off naturally and quickly turns to something else leaving me...................................................

After her first meeting with Mr. Tanner in which she was blindfolded, cuffed and then experienced a little of this...................

She is called to a murder scene when she walks in a sees what she is dealing with well I would've done this if I was her..............

guess that's why I'm not a Detective lol! Well, she works hard to keep her emotions from showing so that Tank, another Officer on the force, doesn't see what she is experiencing and well she keeps her little secret meetings to herself. Now ladies I've said this so many times when you keep a secret it's bound to come out so yet again I.......

but things get downright strange and it seems like every time Angela experiences another session with Mr. Tanner another body is found and they are found in the same motel she meets up with him. Well eventually her secret is revealed and she is suspended but this doesn't stop her from reaching out to Mr. Tanner and they continue...

but then the "twist" happens and it becomes apparent that well let me say this when I read a certain part I literally started..........

I was shaking...oh yes things are getting really tense and I was getting really.....

when she agrees to another "meeting" well I never thought I would be left .........................................................

but the ending O.M.G. the ENDING HOLY MOLY ~ DEAR LORD I DIDN'T just read that Oh Hell No................I sat there going.............

in my usual fashion after I read a book that excites the heck out of me I started................................................

Yes I was left banging my Kindle wanting to KNOW MORE now! Holy crap was I seriously left like that? Well trust me I need to know more and you will too once you read this fantastic book that touches on the BDSM lifestyle, and Angela's thoughts and fears and denial of what she "needs" and I can't wait to see where the author goes with this one.

This is a HOLY HELL YES 5 star read for me. This was s suspenseful, erotic read that will leave you shaken to the core. Shandra did one hell of a job of pulling me into the book and once I was stuck in there I couldn't get out. It felt real the crime scene, investigation, and the continued meetings it felt so real I felt like I was watching someone go through this in real life! FREAKING AMAZING read and if you are like me and like the erotic reads with a splash of dark well I encourage you to get this one right away!!! I need someone to commiserate with :) Can't wait for the second book!!!!!!!!!!!

Dark desires, deadly domination and death served up in the most intriguing manner in this new darkly erotic novel, LETHAL OBSESSION by Shandra Miller.

Detective Angela Martin has found herself in quite a disastrous predicament. As the only female detective on the small town of Moose Creek, N.Y.’s police department she has to watch her step. It’s a man’s world. Angela is a talented and valued asset to the male-dominated department, but as her personal life begins to spiral out of control, her judgment becomes clouded and her actions are scrutinized.

Personally, Angela struggles; her marriage is a sham and her secret desires are not what most people would consider as “normal.” Desperate to achieve the sexual gratification she has only dreamt about, she resorts to fulfillment with strangers – one stranger in particular is more than willing to accommodate her unusual requests. In a bizarre twist of cruel fate, her dark and kinky personal life is exposed and all that she has worked so hard to accomplish hangs by a thin and fragile thread.

LETHAL OBSESSION is a must read for lovers of dark erotic suspense. As the story leaves the reader with a minor cliffhanger, I am eagerly awaiting the follow-up novel to this mysterious tale.

This was a very good read from a new to me author. If you liked Lady Heather from NCIS, there is a character in here which will make you happy. Angela is a cop and her personal life is now blurring with her work.

This story has it all, character development, plot, suspense, BDSM scenes and a mystery to solve! This tale kept me thinking. I tried to guess the end. I did get it right, but it ends in a cliffhanger which makes me want to validate my theory. Gah! The BDSM scenes are pretty hot. The implied F/f is something I wish would be expanded.

I liked Angela. She's a strong woman who's lost her way. She has personal desires and she explores it in a crazy unsafe manner. Frankly, for a cop I'm a bit surprised at her naivety and risk taking. The characters in this book are for the most part, not completely bad or good. There were two that really drove me crazy. Kanesha is a beyotch. I have a theory as to why she is such a See You Next Tuesday to Angela. I also despised Roger, Angela's husband. Even though he was barely in the story, he was quite the asshole. I have my theories about Roger and Kanesha. I'm hoping in the next book, my hypothesis will be validated. This book is recommended to kinky reader who enjoy erotic suspense.

Angela Martin is in a very unhappy marriage and strikes up an online relationship that leads to some pretty frighting anynomous rendezvous with her online Master. I’m an not going to get on my soap box about online stranger danger as this is an element of the story and the way that she becomes seduced into some very compromising situations with her job as murders keep happening near the same locations as her meetings with her Master and the scenes that played out at the murder scenes bear a striking relationship to each scene she just shared with her online master. This does end with one heck of a cliffhanger so I will be back for another dose!!
– I am rating this one as a Goodreads 4 (Really liked it) and an amazon 4 (I like it) -Overall rating of 4

Lethal Obsession is a BDSM book unlike any other I have ever read! This book has bondage, kinky sex, mystery, suspense, and shock!! I include shock because that is how the ending of this book left me!! I literally had to pick my jaw off of my lap when I read the concluding chapter!! The mystery and intrigue this book evoked suckered me in from the first 5 sentences and had me saying.... "What the what?!?!?" by the ending!!

Angela Martin is a small town detective who is stuck in an unhappy marriage where she is ignored by her porn surfing husband. It is no wonder why she turns to online services to search for companionship. What she finds there may be more than what she bargained for. Tanner, the online companion Angela found, introduces her to a world of BDSM that she never even knew existed. She finds herself intrigued by him and his lifestyle and cannot resist the pull she feels toward him.

Tanner sparked my curiosity from the very beginning. I found myself hoping like crazy that Tanner would be a knight in shining handcuffs and would save Angela from the rut that she had found herself in with her marriage. Without giving any spoilers away I have to mention that the ending of this book literally had me yelling ...."What?!?!?!?" at my Kindle!! I had my suspicions, but was totally caught off guard with the last chapter of this book. I give Lethal Obsession 4 stars on the knock my socks off scale!! Go 1-Click if you do not shy away from kinky BDSM sex and you love a suspenseful story!

I cant even begin to explain how much I enjoyed this book. I read a lot of erotica and it really has become the same story with different titles and names. Beautiful girl, yet plain or uninteresting in life, falls for gorgeous eccentric billionaire with a dark side. Don't get me wrong...its hot, I love it, cant get enough but this book was so much more. For starters let me just give Shandra major kudos for not making Angela some dimwitted twiglet! Secondly, the male lead was not some golden chiseled Adonis...which lets be honest, is completely drool worthy and more than deserving of nightly startings in any good fantasy, but its just not believable. I can actually say that I was drawn into the story and not just anticipating the hot sex scenes. Shandra did an incredible job with this book and other than being upset that I have to wait til this summer for the next book...I will definitely be recommending this to everyone!!!!

An original and mysterious erotic read that I feel is a great first for my from this author as well as a great start to a new series. A definite must read for any fans of the erotic genre that do not mind no HEA and enjoy the BDSM scene.

Angela is a VERY unhappily married police detective that has discovered many new things about herself at the same time many murders are taking place around her. A real mystery, one that needs to be solved before any more innocent women are murdered. Can Angela get to the bottom of it and put an end to the madness?

I look forward to the next of the series. That ending was KILLER! It left me at the edge of my seat and trying to turn pages that were not there! (It’s true!) :)

Damnit - a book should finish the story so no more for me....this one ended with a cliff hanger but it didn't have a complete story leading up to it
So we have our heroine, and she is investigating murders that resemble her sex life. She gets in all sorts of trouble at work, then is kidnapped expecting to die and shots someone. Finds out, shot the wrong person and the book ends, but not the story, you have to have another book to finish the story
The other problem is, you really feel like the story isn't finished, it was short, not much depth, 2-dimensional characters, just a fluffy read, so stay away unless you want to be sucked into buying the next two books, this is book baiting at its finest and if you fall for it.....
For shame to the authour for this, for shame!

This book has been sitting on my pile for quite some time, but I'm glad I decided to pick it up.
Although there were some parts of the story that didn't convince me at all, I enjoyed Angela's story. I would've preferred to see more of her past, to understand her better as a character, as well as the relationship with her husband, though. The case itself was really enticing, I was literally claiming my way through the book to find out who the killer was. Some shocking moments, and the ending was really awesome, I was very pleasantly surprised.
I'm definitely going to check book #2 out need to know how the story continues!

This is definitely not normally the kind of book I would read but with that being said I was pleasantly surprised! Lots of mystery and creepy murders that happen. Some hot BDSM scenes - nothing too much rather short when they happen. I feel bad for Angela because she is caught in the middle of this huge mess and really she just needs to discover herself sexually & get her life back. I kind of saw the sad twist coming at the end.
Part 2 "Helpless is coming out 15th.

Wow does this author know how to write a powerful story. I was riveted to the pages from start to finish.

The end of the story is left open, something I normally detest, but it didn't take anything away from this story and was worth every minute of my reading time.

As I make pretty clear on my review submission page, I’m rather picky about what kind of erotic writing I’ll read. I tend to be a little prudish, for lack of a better word (yes, I see the irony), about it because I don’t really go for the whole BDSM thing (much of the reason I can’t seem to make myself read more than one chapter of Fifty Shades of Grey so far - well...plus it bored me  smiley Indifferent0018 ).That said, I did know what I was getting into when I decided to participate in Shandra Miller’s blog tour and review her new novel, which does contain BDSM, and therefore prepared myself accordingly to review based on the quality of the writing, period. Now,  I always try to do that anyway, cuz I feel that's what a good and fair reviewer does. Just because I don't care for scifi (for example) doesn't mean I'm gonna give a scifi book a crappy review if it's still well-written...ya feelin' me? Therefore...

I was pleasantly surprised with this book. Unlike some erotic material I’ve read, Ms. Miller is a stylish writer and her work felt like any other book I may have purchased by a big publishing house in a brick and mortar bookstore - the quality totally holds up in comparison. Her lead character is nicely developed and even in instances when Angela herself didn’t understand her own motivations, the author allows us to experience that internal battle along with her as she navigates her questionable decisions. We get to invest in her instead of just taking on the roles of disconnected voyeurs. And trust, Angela makes many a WTF decision in this book! More than once I found myself yelling at my Kindle (app), “What are you doing, you crazy bitch?! You’re gonna get yourself killed! Brutally!!!” smiley Scared  But I never got the impression that Angela was unintelligent or weak (a major pet peeve for me for female characters in any genre); rather she seemed to be at a major crossroads in her life and having been rejected for so long by her husband, was desperate to feel wanted and alive again. Her flirtation with serious danger also (obviously) contributed to the suspense. While I am a slow reader because of the bazillion commitments I have going on, I still found myself trying to sneak in 20 minutes here and there to find out what happens next whenever I could.

The erotic pieces of the book fit in nicely with what was actually happening in the story and not a single sex scene felt gratuitous, which I personally found refreshing (let’s face it, erotica isn’t exactly known for its tastefulness as a general rule smiley Indifferent0027 ). I also give the author extra kudos for never going excessively blue with the language, proving that erotica can be hot without being trashy (I admittedly fail at this miserably – although I’m not exactly trying, either smiley Wink ). Miller does a superb job of making the powerful draw of the BDSM lifestyle an understandable one on an emotional level as opposed to merely creating a string of sexual scenarios that lack motivation. There's plenty of deviant steam here, but there is also an interesting, compelling story. And that is shizzle I can appreciate.

My only minor complaints with this book are a) that big ole miserable cliff hanger at the end (boooooo! I have to know NOW!), b) I’m a freak for back story so I wouldn’t have minded learning more about Angela as a person - her past, her prior relationship with her husband, etc., (I feel there was room for it, as it seemed like a pretty quick read) and c) Shandra’s writing style is so zen that on occasion I would have liked a touch more angst sprinkled in here and there (to be fair, I watch a ton of crime dramas and paranormal shows and I'm pretty hard to freak out at this point smiley Bang-1 ). The book overall percolates nicely with suspense from page one, has well written characters and scenes and keeps you just enough on the edge of your seat without crossing so far into icky-ville that you feel violated for having read it. If you enjoy a good thriller and you’re also considering dipping your toe into erotica for the first time, this is a great book for you. I highly recommend it and look forward to the sequel. Cuz SERIOUSLY with that damned cliffhanger, woman!  smiley Mad0235

A dark and steamy but still classy read.

Review originally posted at Hesperia Loves Books

Wow, I was so not expecting that! Ms. Miller took an already exciting genre, erotic romance, and gave it a fantastic suspense element that kept me guessing until the very end!

Angela Martin is not your typical female lead and I developed an instant like for her character. She is unhappy, lonely and tired of feeling like she always has to prove herself. Her marriage is in shambles and has been for awhile. She is desperate for a connection with someone and turns to local personal ads to find friendship. She never expects to meet her new friend, much less begin a sexual relationship with him. Her first meeting is cut short when she is called to the scene of a murder that, upon arrival, makes her question every move she has made. Has she unknowingly put herself in the hands of a killer?

Angela’s story sucked me in from the first word and took me on one hell of a roller coaster ride, where I was blindfolded for every twist & turn. I never knew what to expect and that kept me turning the page until the ending, which had me screaming OMG! The plot development and overall developing series storyline was very well done, giving enough information away to intrigue you and leave you eagerly anticipating more. The cast of characters were well-rounded, but I wished I would have been given a little more of the secondary characters, especially Tanner and Angela’s husband.

Even though this book is classed in the Erotic Romance genre, the BDSM scenes are very mild and tame in comparison to other books that I’ve read in the same genre. I do wish that avenue had been explored more, and that the encounters with Angela & Tanner would have given more detail. I felt their relationship was the most important to the book and I think their connection, and eventual outcome, would have had a much more powerful impact, if we would have been given more details.

Overall, if you’re a fan of light BDSM erotic romance or the romantic suspense genre, this is definitely a book to add to your TBR list. It’s a quick read but definitely one that will keep you engaged and hungry for more!

I love mysteries! I love the thrill, the nail biting, and the constant attempt to figure out 'who did it'. I blame my mother and my grandmother. I was raised on Perry Mason, Murder She Wrote, Law & Order, every mystery movie known to man, and my grandma's virtual library of hundreds and hundreds of books. To this day I am still an addict of the genre and can't get enough of it. So when I read a murder mystery, or an erotic mystery, I tend to be a little skeptical. I worry that I will be too hard of a critic.

So, let me start with the character of Angela Martin. I experienced an immediate love/hate relationship with her. My heart breaks for her. She is stuck in a loveless marriage, works in an environment where as a woman it is not acceptable to show weakness, and she feels forced to keep her curiosity of the BDSM lifestyle private for fear of external judgment. It is a lonely life she leads. The feminist in me is so pissed at that woman for allowing others to make her suffer in silence. lol Your husbands a cheating bastard who doesn't love you? Leave him! You want to cry at a crime scene? Fucking cry and then put your co-workers in their place if they question you! You want to experience the BDSM lifestyle? Do it! Even though I wish she was little more ballsy, I did like her.

I also liked that the characters were not model perfect. Angela is a self proclaimed "NotBarbie" and Tanner turns out to be your average Joe. No Adonis or Aphrodite hero/heroine.

The overall plot was well thought out and the execution was well done, though I would have liked more detail. I do feel the book could have been longer and that some scenes seemed rushed. (The interrogation of the teenage girl who is the sister of one of the victims... I think that could have been drawn out more. I have teens and they don't confess quite so easily lol)

I enjoyed the setting and the details of the BDSM scenes were effective, although I expected more sex. Personal preference perhaps but I felt there could have been more detail in the sex acts between Angela and Tanner.

The suspense was good and I actually enjoyed that the ending was left open for another installment. What better way to keep your readers lusting for more than by refusing to reveal all of the secrets! :)

Angela Martin, a detective first, is having some very personal issues. Her husband and her have a shame of a marriage. No longer sleeping together, barley talking to each other but living in the same house. Both just doing there own thing. Recently Angela has been talking on line to a man, similar interests in bondage. there talking has progressed to flirting, and now sexual situations and fantasies. He mentions it would be nice to have an encounter where she is blindfolded and he could approach her as an unknown and they could have an encounter without never seeing each other. Angela being a detective, knows this is dangerous but it also turns her on. So they set a date up. The agreement is that she will be blindfolded and will never see his face. But if her phone rings (work phone) the encounter has to end. So Angela gets her bondage and dominance, that she is so craving. During the encounter, the worst happens, her phone rings. So it ends early and wanting more but her job comes 1st. She is called to a murder scene, which is very unusual for the little town they live in. A women has been killed and in a way that is extremely familiar to Angela. The woman was in a extreme bondage situation and had been killed in her encounter. The worst part about it, she didn't have to leave her hotel to go to the crime scene. So her "friend", has just become a suspect in her head. But how can she 1. keep her encounter a secret and investigate him, and 2. how can Angela still want more of the bondage and dominance, that he provides?

This was such a great book. I had a hard time putting it down and even though it is shorter book, it will keep you on the edge of your seat. Angela is thrown into a world she craves and doesn't understand why yet. With her job she is bond to find a killer, but with a killer on the loose, her obsession could kill her. This book will keep you guessing, and has some major twists and turns that will have you on the edge of your seats and your heat pounding. The ending will surprise you as well. I truly hope Shandra Miller will send me book 2. She has me hooked.

This book starts off strangley. Well perhaps not so, but as we all know by now, I don't read Erotica unless asked to.
Anyway the wording is strong. This author clearly has a good grasp on the english language.
There was a part in the first chapter that confused me though. How a cop would even consider doing what Angela had done!
I loved the crime story aspect. It actually flowed very well with the erotica parts. I won't ruin it for you guys though!
A perfect blend of crime noir and steamy sex scenes, if you like erotica and crime novels.. This book will keep you wanting more.
I give this book 4 of 5 paws

Wow, this book started off with a bang! Stepped right into the smexy action on this one. You don't often find such a good mystery mixed in with the erotica but this really did have a nice blend.

And then there were a few point plots that weren't consistent. How did the surveillance camera pick up Angela but not Tanner. That thing didn't make sense to me.

While I've listed a couple of things that didn't jive with me while I was reading it, don't take this to think I didn't enjoy the mystery. I do this on most mysteries that I read so the couple that I mentioned are not indicative that this has lots of plot holes. I liked it (but not the cliff hanger so much - although I didn't think the mystery was solved either.)

On to the next installment!

Lethal Obsessions kept me on my toes and highly entertained. Perfectly written and graphic scenes make the reader feel like a part of the book. Shadowing Detective Martin as she lives a lie of a marriage, chats to a charming stranger online and agreeing to meet him, then watch the bondage and dominating take place, sucks you into thier world and never releases its grip.

Murders shockingly similar to situations Detective Martin finds herself in, she can't help but feel for the victims. It could have been her. Could it be her new friend?

Lethal Obsessions is definitely a fast paced, short read full of entertainment and shock that I would recommend it to those who love a good murder/mystery with a twist.

When I hit the play button on my iPod, I wasn't expecting the story I got. The author ramped up an erotic story by adding in the suspenseful, thriller component. I went from all kinds of hot to having chills running down my spine. Seriously, I think listening to this story being told must be even better than reading it because the story really came to life. Even now that I've finished, I'm still not sure who did it. The author keeps readers guessing until the very end... and then throws you for a loop with the very last sentence.

This is definitely a dark read. There's a killer on the loose and he's targeting Detective Angela.

This was a quick read and it was pretty good. The tension created by the murders was great. It was perfect for this story.

There's no romance in this story. It's dark erotic thriller.

We don't get all the answers in this one. In fact we're left with a cliffhanger. I'll definitely be reading the next one!
