A prequel to Dog Blood, the second book in the Hater series. As the world descends into chaos around him, Danny McCoyne hunts for the family he thought he'd lost forever.
“The world has fallen apart with incredible speed and brutality. Your only choice now is how hard you fight – hate or be hated, kill or be killed.
With the war between the Haters and Unchanged increasing in intensity, Danny McCoyne drifts from fight to fight, from battle to battle. His old life is over. This is all he has now. But a chance incident on the battlefield changes everything, bringing him back into contact with everything he thought he’d lost forever.”
David Moody first released Hater in 2006, and without an agent, succeeded in selling the film rights for the novel to Mark Johnson (producer, Breaking Bad) and Guillermo Del Toro (director, The Shape of Water, Pan's Labyrinth). Moody's seminal zombie novel Autumn was made into a movie starring Dexter Fletcher and David Carradine. He has an unhealthy fascination with the end of the world and likes to write books about ordinary folks going through absolute hell. With the publication of continuing Hater and Autumn stories, Moody has cemented his reputation as a writer of suspense-laced SF/horror, and "farther out" genre books of all description.
WELCOME TO DECEMBER PROJECT!DECEMBER PROJECT IS OVER!!!
last year, i carved out my own short story advent calendar as my project for december, and it was so much fun i decided to do it again this year! so, each day during the month of december, i will be reading a short story and doing the barest minimum of a review because ain't no one got time for that and i'm already so far behind in all the things. however, i will be posting story links in case anyone wants to read the stories themselves and show off how maybe someone could have time for that.
here is a link to the first story in last year's project,
which in turn links to the whole monthlong project, in case you wanna do some free short story reading of your own! links to the stories in this year's advent-ure will be at the end of each review.
enjoy, and the happiest of decembers to you all!
DECEMBER 31
I look down at the long-haired body by my feet and remember the ease with which I killed him last night. I remember how this man and the boy downstairs both held back, almost too afraid to attack. And that, I decide, is one of the crucial differences between them and us, a difference which will help us win this war. The Unchanged are too concerned with what might be, too tangled up worrying about the consequences of their actions to be able to fight freely. In comparison, we’re uninhibited. While they’re still thinking about it, we’ve already done it.
well, that was a festive way to end 2017 - with a giant bloody massacre! i had no idea this story existed, but it's been available for free for many years! if you are familiar with david moody's hater series, this story comes between book one - Hater and book two - Dog Blood. if you are not familiar with the series, you should read it, unless you are a delicate specimen who can't handle a little a lot of arterial spray. in any event, that was the last story in my 2017 advent calendar and i am all short storied out. you're on your own, but have a happy new year and be safe and make smart choices, okay? see you here in 2018! as long as you have made smart choices. and as long as the haters don't getcha, rarrrr!
A short prequel to Dog Blood, the second book in the Hater series. In around 70 pages Everything and Nothing shows how drastically life has changed for protagonist Danny in the few months since the Change. A nice segue between the quiet and ignorant world of before and the horrific world after.
I think this has to be my second favorite in the series i love that it tied up all the loose ends and really completed the story fully. i recommend reading it before Them or Us and after Dogs Blood. that way get a full sense of everything before you finish off the series. Other than that a great book.
This novella wasn't bad, but it was actually a bit unnecessary. It fills in a gap between the first two books that didn't necessarily need to be filled in. I'm glad it was a free download.
For those that read the Hater trilogy this is a short side story. Doesn’t add much to the overall story line, but is a super short and quick read. Cheers!
Solid actio-packed short story the follows on the heels of Hater. David Moody does a good job of showing exactly how much both the world and the main character have changed in the months following Hater. Doesn't seem like anything super critical to the overall arc of the trilogy happened here, but it was enjoyable, enough.
Nice addition to the story. I haven't read the second one yet, so I don't know how much this book was needed, but still a great read. I look forward to reading the rest.
